Chapter 3: Driving South

With a fire axe in one hand and the **Zhanmadao** in the other, Renault attacked the zombies with reckless abandon.

Following closely behind, Guo Haoyu killed any stragglers, and the two began to develop a deeper sense of teamwork.

They descended the stairs and fought their way out of the dormitory building.

In front of the dormitory, a large group of zombies had already gathered, easily numbering over a hundred.

"Damn, why are there so many?"

Guo Haoyu killed the last zombie on the first floor, thinking he could catch his breath for a moment, only to see that a huge crowd of zombies had already gathered outside the dormitory entrance.

**Bang! Bang! Bang!**

The zombies were pounding on the iron door, jaws wide open, desperate to get inside and devour Renault and Guo Haoyu.

"Follow me!"

Renault glanced at the zombies blocking the main entrance and, without hesitation, turned towards the side door.

Guo Haoyu hesitated for a second but quickly followed him.

He wasn’t entirely sure why he trusted Renault, but at this moment, there seemed to be no other option. He could only follow Renault’s lead.

It was as if a voice inside him whispered: Follow him, and you’ll survive!

The two of them ran along the corridor towards the side door, where a small parking lot awaited them.

This was precisely why Renault was determined to fight his way out.

There were two cars parked there: one was a regular sedan, and the other was an old, long-abandoned car.

"Perfect. I thought we’d have to rely on that old car."

Renault thought to himself as he raised his large axe and struck the chain on the side door.

With a **clang**, bright sparks flew.

"Whoa! Awesome!"

Guo Haoyu shouted excitedly as he watched Renault break the chain, which was as thick as a pinky finger, in one swing.

"Cover me. I’m going to start the car."

Renault wasted no time. The zombies at the main entrance would soon hear the commotion, and if they didn’t act fast, the two of them would be devoured by the horde!

He lifted the fire axe and used the blunt end to smash the glass of the driver’s seat, then opened the door and began to hotwire the car.

"Hey! Down there! Can you take me with you? My family owns a company."

If you spot this narrative on Amazon, know that it has been stolen. Report the violation.

"Renault! Brother Yan, don’t leave! Take me with you, please!"

"Help! I don’t want to die here!"

The people upstairs could clearly see Renault, and some were even his classmates.

"This..."

Guo Haoyu stood to the side, dumbfounded.

He never thought he’d see something straight out of a TV show happening in real life.

"Get in the car. If you’re any slower, I’m leaving without you."

Luckily, the sedan still had more than half a tank of gas, which was enough to get Renault to where he wanted to go.

**Vroom!**

The engine roared to life. The nearby zombies, hearing the noise, immediately began rushing towards them.

Renault slammed on the gas, and the car lunged forward, plowing through the crowd of zombies.

"Man, you were insane back there. Which department are you in? First-year or second-year?"

Guo Haoyu asked from the passenger seat, still gripping the bloody fire axe.

"Renault."

Renault nodded, not saying much more. Guo Haoyu scratched his nose and decided not to press further.

They sped out of the school and headed west. The streets were stained with blood.

As the cold air rushed in through the window, Renault’s mind gradually settled.

Guo Haoyu looked out at the devastation, feeling a mix of relief and amazement:

"Good thing I got out. If I’d stayed in the dorm, I’d have been zombie food by now."

"Yeah, stay alive."

Renault’s eyes were deep, and his expression remained emotionless as he drove.

The car’s body was covered in dents from zombie impacts, and it was clear the vehicle wouldn’t survive another round.

"Where are we headed?"

"To the 4S dealership, to find a better car."

...

Nanshi City, Vian 4S Dealership.

Before the apocalypse, Renault wouldn’t have even dreamed of coming here—a place for those with the money to spend.

But in the apocalypse, things had changed. Human society had collapsed, money was now worthless, and **strength** was the new currency.

The two of them took a short break here, and Renault opened his system.

Since he started killing zombies, the notifications had been non-stop.

**Host: Renault**

**Level: Black Iron 4**

Strength: 21

Speed: 15

Constitution: 15

Spirit: 10

Free Attribute Points: 10

Talent: None

Skills: None

Experience: 14/40

Impressive. In just over two hours, Renault had already reached Black Iron Level 4.

He thought for a moment and decided to distribute his attribute points evenly. This way, his overall abilities would be more balanced.

As a warm current surged through his body, his attributes became:

Strength: 23

Speed: 17

Constitution: 17

Spirit: 14

Renault had allocated four points to Spirit, and now his mind felt clearer than ever.

He pulled out a canteen from his travel pack. Water was incredibly precious in the apocalypse, and he took a large gulp before handing it to Guo Haoyu.

"Renault, where are we going now?"

Renault glanced at him, his gaze calm and steady.

Guo Haoyu felt a bit awkward under Renault’s stare and scratched his head before saying:

"I promise I won’t slow you down."

Renault nodded. But where should they go now?

His thoughts raced as he sifted through his memories, and finally, he found the answer.

"Head south."

The two of them drove off in a Land Rover Range Rover they had found at the dealership. Renault had found the keys on the sales manager.

The reason they chose the Range Rover was because its body had a steel plate thickness of 1.87mm.

That kind of thickness would be more than enough to withstand zombie attacks.

They filled the Range Rover’s tank with gas and grabbed two additional barrels of fuel before setting off south.

According to Renault’s memories, in the nearby city of Huanjiang, there was a specially evolved zombie.

That’s right—zombies could evolve, and so could humans.

Humans evolved in three categories: physical, elemental, and mental.

Zombies, on the other hand, lacked one category—they couldn’t evolve in elemental powers.

"Renault, aren’t we about to reach Huanjiang City?"

Guo Haoyu asked, confused. Compared to Nanshi City, Huanjiang had a much larger population, with 200,000 more residents than Nanshi.

"We need to get something special. But first, we’ll need more supplies."

Renault replied as he stopped the car in an area with fewer zombies. He turned off the engine and said:

"Grab your axe and get ready for battle!"

Guo Haoyu looked around. The car had stopped next to a convenience store.

There was no time to hesitate. He nodded, gripped the fire axe, and charged down.
