Chapter 17: The Speed Talent

"Damn it, watch this move—flamethrower! Pfft!"

Fan Bing stood confidently, grounding himself in a martial arts stance before blowing out a small, flickering flame.

**Elemental ability?**

Isn't that a bit underwhelming?

Renault shook his head, unable to quite grasp why Fan Bing’s power was so weak.

"Hahaha! Fan Bing, that flame is tiny! Look at mine!"

Guo Haoyu nearly burst into laughter, watching Fan Bing's puny display. He then flexed his body, causing his muscles to expand.

In an instant, Guo Haoyu’s body grew by almost 20 centimeters!

His already muscular frame now looked like a small mountain, and his skin darkened, appearing solid and nearly impenetrable.

**Physical transformation!**

Renault's eyes lit up. It seemed his companions were developing quite well.

Fan Bing had awakened fire-elemental abilities, while Guo Haoyu had a physical mutation. Both were useful.

Renault approached the two and cleared his throat.

"Boss!"

"Boss!"

Both men quickly stopped their playful antics and greeted Renault, excitement plain on their faces.

"Not bad. You’ve both awakened decent abilities. But Fan Bing, what's going on with your fire?"

Renault praised Guo Haoyu but turned to Fan Bing with a slight frown. That fire ability seemed... underwhelming.

Fan Bing scratched his head, grinning sheepishly. "I think it’s pretty cool, you know? I can at least light a cigarette now."

Renault shrugged. **If Fan Bing is happy with it, there’s no harm.** It’s not about having the strongest powers—it’s about how you use them.

"By the way, boss, what’s your ability?"

Guo Haoyu, having reverted to his normal form, walked over curiously.

Fan Bing perked up as well. "Yeah, boss, what’s your power?"

Even little Alice, who usually remained calm, tilted her head in curiosity.

**My ability?**

Renault blinked, realizing that he hadn’t yet checked. He quickly brought up his system panel in his mind.

**Host**: Renault

**Level**: Bronze 1

**Strength**: 29

**Speed**: 24

**Constitution**: 24

**Spirit**: 24

**Free Attribute Points**: 0

**Talent**: Accelerated Speed

**Skills**: None

**Weapons**: Zanma Dao

**Experience**: 27/100

**"Accelerated speed?"**

Renault muttered aloud, curious, and soon information about his talent appeared before his eyes.

**Accelerated Speed**: The host’s speed can increase by geometric multiples. The multiplier is based on the host's current speed and level, with a duration of 1 minute. (Currently, the host can reach twice their base speed.)

**Double speed?**

Renault processed the information. This talent could scale with his strength as he progressed, making it quite powerful.

"Increased speed," Renault said with a smile. **This ability wasn’t bad at all.** In his past life, abilities that boosted speed were rare, let alone one that multiplied it.

"Speed?"

Fan Bing scoffed, picking his nose. "How fast could that be?"

Before Fan Bing could finish his sentence, Renault disappeared in a gust of wind, not leaving even a shadow behind.

"It’s probably... very fast."

Renault reappeared some distance away, testing his new talent. He realized that at his current strength, his speed boost rivaled the movement capabilities of a typical silver-tier evolved human.

Silver-tier evolvers were known for their overall enhanced physical attributes. Reaching that level wasn’t just about having strong abilities—one’s physical body also had to be tough.

"Wait, where’d he go?"

Fan Bing frantically looked around, his eyes darting in every direction.

Renault smirked and silently circled behind Fan Bing. He tapped Fan Bing’s waist lightly and said coldly, "Don’t move. You’re dead."

Fan Bing’s body stiffened. "Please don’t kill me, boss! I won’t do it again!"

Alice couldn’t help but burst out laughing. Watching Fan Bing act so cowardly was too amusing.

Fan Bing turned around, his face darkening when he realized Renault hadn’t even drawn a weapon—he had just been poking him with his finger.

"Seriously, boss? You tricked me!"

Renault chuckled. "Fan Bing, you’ve got to stay alert. In the apocalypse, danger is everywhere."

His tone shifted to one of seriousness. **Even though regular zombies were mindless, the more evolved ones were a real threat.** Their increased strength, durability, and intelligence made them formidable opponents.

"I’m heading out for a bit. By the time I get back, I want to see this supermarket fortified." Renault patted Guo Haoyu on the shoulder.

"Out? Where are you going?" Guo Haoyu asked, confused.

"Somewhere important. I’ll be back by tonight."

Renault left some of the weapons and ammunition behind and drove off in the Range Rover.

The three remaining looked at each other, each with questions on their faces.

Alice was the first to break the silence. "Do you think Renault went out to find us food?"

"Pfft, all you ever think about is eating. Boss probably went to get more weapons," Fan Bing retorted.

Ever since he gained his powers, Fan Bing had felt confident—maybe even confident enough to challenge Alice.

"Fan Bing, are you sick again?" Alice asked, surprised by his sudden bravado.

Fan Bing grinned, standing tall. "Let’s have a match. Let’s see whose powers are stronger—your ice or my fire."

"My ice is obviously stronger. Your little flame can’t even compare!"

"Enough, both of you!" Guo Haoyu stepped in to mediate. "Let’s finish fortifying this supermarket first. We don’t want to disappoint the boss when he gets back."

Alice and Fan Bing begrudgingly agreed, their competitive fire simmering down for the time being.

"Alright, go find some tools—cement nails, hammers, wooden boards, whatever you can find. I’ll handle the heavy lifting," Guo Haoyu said, his voice full of determination.

Alice nodded and trotted off to search the supermarket. Fan Bing, after thinking for a moment, also went to look for materials they could use to reinforce the building.
