Chapter 14: Emily

“You don’t know, huh?” Renault’s face was completely emotionless as he steadily advanced toward Fu Yang.

“Don’t come any closer! I’ll shoot! I’ll kill you, I swear!” Fu Yang shouted, uncertainty creeping into his voice. Was this guy crazy, unafraid of a gun?

“Well then, shoot. I just want you to remember what happened to Guo Zhi Cheng!” Renault said coldly, suddenly accelerating toward Fu Yang.

**Bang!**

“Boss!” Guo Haoyu yelled as he rushed into the room, his voice filled with panic.

Fortunately, no one was hurt. The room was in disarray, the gun lying on the floor, and Renault had pinned Fu Yang to the ground. Nearby, Liu Cunguang had pulled out a dagger.

“You bastard! Die!” Liu Cunguang screamed as he charged at Renault, the dagger gleaming menacingly in his hand.

He was fast—too fast for Guo Haoyu to react in time, so Haoyu could only shout, “Boss, watch out!”

But Renault’s reflexes were anything but ordinary. He grabbed the stunned Fu Yang, using him as a shield while he spun around.

**Thunk!**

The dagger sank into Fu Yang’s abdomen. A wave of searing pain washed over Fu Yang, causing every hair on his body to stand on end.

“Ahhh! You idiot, Liu Cunguang! I’ll kill you!” Fu Yang screamed, his face twisting in agony.

“Brother Yang, I—I didn’t mean it! Let me explain!” Liu Cunguang stammered, panic gripping him. How had he managed to stab the wrong person?

**Wham!**

Renault punched Liu Cunguang, knocking him unconscious. Then, turning to the writhing Fu Yang on the floor, he said calmly, “Now, let’s talk. Where is Guo Zhi Cheng, the original owner of this apartment?”

“I’m bleeding out! I’m going to die! You need to get me to the infirmary!” Fu Yang’s eyes were wide with fear, staring at the blood pouring from his abdomen.

**Squelch!**

Renault yanked the dagger out, his face still devoid of emotion.

“Ahhh!” Fu Yang howled in agony, the sharp pain ripping through him again. His lips began to pale as he continued to bleed out.

“What... what do you want?” he asked, his voice trembling.

“Where is Guo Zhi Cheng?” Renault repeated, his voice steady and cold as ice.

Fu Yang’s entire body trembled as he tried to recall. “They... they were thrown out! Fed to the zombies outside the base!”

This book was originally published on Royal Road. Check it out there for the real experience.

Fu Yang had no trouble admitting to it. After all, he had personally ensured the couple was evicted and left to die.

**Clang!**

The sound of a fire axe dropping to the floor echoed in the room. Guo Haoyu stood there, his eyes empty, murmuring something under his breath that no one could hear.

“Was it you?” Renault asked, his brows furrowing. He hadn’t expected things to have gone this far.

Fu Yang thought for a moment, then nodded with a sneer. “Yeah, they claimed the apartment belonged to them, said it was some military benefit. They refused to leave, said they were waiting for their son. Didn’t even need me to get involved. Liu Cunguang beat them, stuffed them into a sack, and threw them outside the base.”

As Fu Yang spoke, his face twisted into a cruel grin, as if reliving the moment.

“Bastard!”

Guo Haoyu, a man standing 6'3", burst into tears. He grabbed the fire axe from the floor and, with a guttural cry, swung it down on the unconscious Liu Cunguang.

Fu Yang, still wide-eyed with pain and fear, stared at Guo Haoyu in horror, unable to comprehend the nightmare unfolding before him.

Renault stood back, his expression unreadable as he watched the scene. These men deserved every bit of what was coming to them.

Shaking his head, Renault turned and walked toward another room. According to the radar, there was one more person inside.

It was a small bedroom, sparsely furnished with a bed, a desk, and a chair. There, sitting in the corner, was a woman. Renault, a bit surprised, addressed her cautiously, “Hello?”

“Who are you? Where’s that scumbag Fu Yang?” the woman asked, her tone a mix of defiance and curiosity.

Renault realized the woman was no ordinary person. He walked over, stepping behind her to untie the ropes that bound her wrists. “I’m Renault. It seems I’ve just taken care of Fu Yang. You were being held here against your will?”

“Thanks for the rescue. I’m Emily, former chairwoman of Zhuhua Group. And you are?” she asked as she rubbed her wrists, now free of the ropes.

“Uh... Renault,” he replied, momentarily taken aback by her identity. This was Emily—the future leader of one of the most formidable female-only bases in the country. In her base, no adult men were ever allowed; everything was run by women.

The story went that she had been violated by men in the past, which led her to create a sanctuary where no man could ever set foot. And now, Renault realized, this must be that part of her past.

“What? Something wrong with my face?” Emily asked, quirking an eyebrow as she inspected herself.

Renault shook his head, still processing everything. “No, nothing. It’s just... you seem special.”

“Special, huh?” Emily rolled her eyes at him. Then, with a more serious tone, she added, “I need to get out of here. This place isn’t safe for long. Fu Yang’s father is one of the higher-ups in this base, and if I get caught, I’m dead.”

Before Renault could respond, she quickly tied the ropes back to the radiator, as if she’d never been untied, and leaped out the window with surprising agility.

What the...? Renault blinked, dumbfounded.

“Well, no wonder she’s a trailblazer. Even her escape is unique,” he muttered to himself, before turning and leaving the room.

Back in the living room, Guo Haoyu stood there, red-eyed and silent, his axe now stained.

Renault glanced at the bloody scene but said nothing, walking over to Haoyu and placing a hand on his shoulder. “Is there anything you want to take from here? We should leave quickly. Fu Yang has connections here.”

Guo Haoyu nodded, his heart swelling with gratitude. Even in such a dire situation, Renault remained steadfast by his side, never once faltering.

With renewed determination, Haoyu wiped his tears, then disappeared into one of the rooms.

Three minutes later, he reemerged carrying a small bundle. He gave Renault a faint smile, his voice hoarse, “Let’s go, boss.”

Together, the four of them left the base’s management zone, retracing their steps.

Alice, sensing the heavy atmosphere, remained quiet, her usual chirpiness subdued.

Meanwhile, in the shadows, Pang Long stirred awake, quickly nudging his partner. “Liuzi! Wake up! They’re not dead? The family area guards didn’t kill them?”

“What?!”
