I decided to make this chapter bigger than the previous one, so I won’t end it after a brief set of actions like I’ve been doing.
Give me what I want woman!
The librarian led me to a room in the back of the library and explained to me why there was something like that in there. Apparently the library was previously a temple, and the room is where the resident priest stayed (that explained the vitrals). As we sat at a table there I said:
Why isn’t the building used as a temple anymore?
Librarian – It belonged to an order that died a long time ago, when the last priest died he passed it on to me.
Emily –How long ago was it?
Librarian - nine hundred years, it belonged to one of the smaller orders and it didn’t manage to spread its faith when the crusades began.
Emily – Okay… Wait! How old are you?
The librarian chuckled and said – I’m a thousand years old – when she said that, as if popping a bubble full of smoke, the librarian skin became red and a small tail appeared and rested itself on her lap. She proceeded saying:
When you get as old as I am your life start losing its meaning, so I made my mission to stay in this city and help out little lost lambs like you.
Emily – What do you mean?
Librarian – I mean, that I’m here to help the demons that show up in this city. I noticed that you’re one of those adventurers so you probably don’t know but demons usually spawn in their own main city and only if they decide to live between humans they’re sent here to me.
At the begging they’d come to me to learn how to disguise themselves as humans like I was and then I lead them to where they want to go.
Since you’re an adventurer, you don’t really need to hide your appearance, so tell me, what do you need?
Emily – Right now I need to know where is that food that you said you’d give me woman.
I know I should be interest in her story, but at that moment my hunger was starting to hurt.
The librarian couldn’t help but laugh at the situation, she had just told the girl that demons have been living among humans for centuries without them even knowing and she only cared about her food. So while laughing she told Emily:
My name is Lucy, and girl, I’m starting to like you. Give me that bread and I’ll show you what we’re going to eat.
So I gave her all of my bread. She took them and put them aside, took a knife, gave it to me and proceeded to put wood logs on a small oven that I hadn’t noticed before. And said:
What you waiting for? Start slicing that bread, we are making toasts.
After I sliced the bread she took them and put them in a metallic plate and shoved it in the fire. While the bread was being toasted she asked me to slice some vegetables and went outside to get some water from a well. When she got back she put the vegetables and the water in a pot and them in the upper part of the oven which was something like a stove. We, without me knowing, were making soup. After everything was done, she put it on the table and we started eating.
You have gained the cooking ability
Yes! Bread never again! I didn’t even had to ask her to teach me the cooking ability, apparently she was some sort of helping npc for players that decide to start as demons. Which made me think, how would other player come in contact with her if they didn’t plan on coming to the library? Maybe she was put here for people like me that instead of getting respect by showing their enthusiasm doing quests and training with weapons, preferred to take their time reading and learning.
Anyway, after we finished eating she asked me if I wanted to sleep there, and it wouldn’t bother her if I stayed.
I quickly dismissed her, I was not ready for some sexy time with a woman and said as if clueless of what she meant:
No, thank you. We adventurers don’t need to sleep very often. But you would do me a big favor if you let me use the library through the night though.
Lucy – Okay, I won’t force you to do anything. Take this key and lock the front door to me please, I’m going to bed.
After she dismissed me I locked the front door and went back to my research.
I already knew it was possible to expand my inner mana sense to be able to feel my surroundings, but how the fuck do I do it? The book said it couldn’t be taught because it felt different for every person. It was a hint, at least for me. It meant I had do it on instinct and let my own subconscious create it.
So I sat at the library table and started meditating. At first I only activated my inner mana sense but with time I was starting to be able to focus more clearly on everything that was happening inside my own body. It took me some hours but finally I felt something, it was as if my inner self sense was expanding including things around me on it. The expansion began really slowly and accelerated in a few minutes. At the beginning I could only feel the seat on the chair I was on and the tip of the table, and as it progressed I felt more and more until it stopped expanding. When it finally stopped expanding it was like a sphere with around ten meters around myself and I could feel the mana of everything inside of it as my own.

Ting!
You have gained the ability Outer Mana Feeling
Ooookay, now I had to learn how to manipulate that mana. After all, how useful could it be to only feel it? (I had no idea at the time, but girl, could I be more wrong?)
So I thought: It can’t be that hard since I can already feel it right?
With my outer mana sense still activated I looked at the chair in front of me, pointed my open hands to it and urged the mana to come to me.
Then the mana from the chair came to me, leaving the chair behind turning it into a pile of brown dust…
You have gained the ability Mana Drain
You have gained the ability Mana Manipulation
Omg! I panicked. Lucy, the thousand years old demon would kill me for destroying something of her library. I urged the mana to go back and to my surprise, it did. But the chair didn’t reform herself instead the pile of dust became a solid piece of wood(that looked like a pile of shit).
You have failed to magically repair the item because you didn’t urged the mana to make it become the item it once was
Hmmm, so instead of simply sending the mana back I have to picture the thing becoming what it was so that it can turn it into what it used to be?
After I pondered a little bit on how to make it work I drained the mana from another chair, but this time when making it go back I pictured a simple chair in my mind.
You have gained the ability Magical Repair
Fuck. Don’t take me wrong, I was happy to have succeeded in repairing it, but now, instead of a comfortable chair it was a simple chair based on squares, it was even written on its description, look.
Simple ChairOnce a very comfortable wood chair, it’s now a poorly magically repaired version of itself, because of the inexperience of the one conducting the operation it turned into a simple chair based on squares.
Well, at least when I read the ability’s description it said that once it leveled up the results would get better.
Anyway, I would already have to deal with Lucy’s wrath once she woke up, so no crying over the spilled milk.
I decided to try again to control stuff, but this time I didn’t want to destroy anything, so I decided to read a book that properly explained how to do it. Fortunately, one of the books that Lucy had brought me earlier talked about it, it was called: How to Manipulate Mana for Beginners. I turned off my outer mana feeling and began reading it.
I had already figured out most of what was written in there by now (thanks to some destructive experiments) but the only thing I was lacking was to properly concentrate on what I wanted to do, instead of controlling the mana to come to me I had to control it to not lose its form and then come to me or do whatever I wanted it to. And that’s what I did.
The chair came flying straight to my head, and because I was only lvl 1, had a mediocre health pool and commanded it with such conviction…
You have been killed, you won’t be able to log-in in the next 24 hours
Oh well! Maybe next time will be easier and I’ll remember to command it to come slowly to my hand instead of simply thinking COME TO MAMA!
