It’s time for me to get the ability that I need!
Sitting at the table I finally took notice of the pile of books the librarian had brought me. It has huge, but at least there wasn’t as much as I thought there would be. I decided to start with the basics, so I grabbed the book that was simply entitled: The mana. It didn’t had any information of how to use it but if I wanted to learn that from another book I’d have to understand the position of mana in this world.
This is a resume of what the book said:
Mana, is in everything. It is what keep this universe’s elements stable, without it everything would be dispersed in the form of minuscule dust (there was no concept of atoms apparently). Mana also made possible the existence of sentient beings, since it was the trigger to evolution. In areas with higher concentration of mana the effects of it on the creatures was too potent, making them the most dangerous monsters known, in areas with mild concentration it was just enough to make the beings there smart, thus creating the humans, elfs, dwarfs, demons and etc. In areas with a weak concentration of mana animals like the rabbits, foxes and wolfs got a little smarter and more aggressive.
Hmmm, if mana is in everything and it’s possible to manipulate it, it’s possible to achieve what I want!
After I finished reading: The mana, I picked a smaller book that taught how to perceive mana around you. It said that feeling the mana around yourself was something like a sixth sense, normally this sense can only perceive the mana inside your own body and that monks specialize in making that feeling more accurate so that they can become fortify their bodies, but that information wasn’t what I wanted, so I kept reading. In the next part of the book I found what I wanted, it said It was possible to increase the range of that sixth sense turning it in something like a field around you, but it took an enormous amount of concentration and that it was impossible to teach how to do it to someone, since everyone would perceive the mana around them differently. It made me a little sad that I’d have to learn that on my own, but at least the book taught how to awake that sixth sense so that you can feel you inner mana.
+1 int
Finally! Some compensation for all that reading, I was beginning to think that increasing your stat by doing something related was a lie.
Anyway, now I had to start trying to “awake my sixth sense”, so I dismissed the window and started.

First, I prepared myself mentally for the hours of boredom to come, I knew I wouldn’t get it right away and that I’d have to stay a lot of time there sitting and doing nothing. After that I started by trying to meditate, I had done it a few times in RL, not for some noble purpose as to increase my chi, but because I had drank too much coffee and was trying to relax to be able to sleep.
You have acquired the ability meditation
Fuck! That was fast. It was so abrupt that it broke my concentration and I had to start again.
After a few hours of meditation, I was finally able to disconnect my mind from the feelings of my body ( it reads: I was finally able to stop feeling my sore butt) and then I felt it. It was like something clicked inside of me and I was finally able to feel the mana running through my body. I had never felt something like that before, it had the feeling of a close friend that was always around and I never noticed.
You have gained the ability Inner mana Feeling
OMG! Damn windows! I’m going to disable those motherfuckers if they keep breaking my concentration.
Luckily, since I now had that ability it wasn’t really hard to feel my own mana once more.
Again, I got too concentrated in the current task and forgot to check how much time I had spent doing it, and I got hungry without first finding something else than the bread. So I started crying right there. I really didn’t want to eat it again.
And that’s when my angel arrived, she came laughing and behind of her I could see the vitral shining, and that light enveloped her as if an aura of goodness. The librarian came to me and said:
Little girl, we’re closing for today. I noticed that you’re crying and I have a hint that’s because you’re hungry.
Emily – Yes! I don’t want to eat bread again, please save me! – I said, still crying.
The librarian, after seeing my state quickly embraced me and in a soothing tone said:
Shh, shh… It will be alright. Come with me, I can give you something else to eat.
So I went with her, my saving angel.
I don’t know why but I felt I could trust her.
