It's confirmed, the berries are how it activates. I started with just poking them with a stick and that, expectedly, did nothing. So I tried using two sticks to grab a fruit, pulling it off, but that did nothing as well. Finally, I tried pulling multiple off in quick succession, initially nothing happened, but as soon as I started trying to pull the third one off, it's jaws snapped shut over the two sticks. I tried pulling them out, but the plant started slowly pulling them in with a lot more strength than one would expect. After a short bout of tug of war I decided to just let it have them. They were nice sticks but I can find more. Plus my hand is still quite raw. It seems like I can pull off two without activating it, but the third one is the stopping point. I'll have to do more testing to see if this is consistent and how long before I can pull another two off, but I will hopefully have a consistent source of food from now on.

I don't have much to do while waiting for the plant to reopen so I've just been looking at it and honestly it's quite nice looking. When closed it looks a lot like a flower bud. The "petals'' are largely a peach color, the edges being lined with the same dark purple as the fruit, along with four of the bizarre green and black leaves that are on every plant in this place popping out around the bottom, each one about the size of a human head. If I didn't know that it was usually lying in wait only looking like this when it has caught something. I'd say it's pretty, but it's hard to do that while knowing that if my head had been caught in it or both of my hands at once I would be dead, no matter how nice it looks.

I've confirmed and yes I can consistently get two fruits without setting it off, I'm going to harvest this thing till there is no fruit left.

I've completely stripped the plant of fruit at this point. I don't know how many of the fruits I have in total but my satchel is quite full, the bizarre weight of the fruits is a bit of a problem, but For now I'm going to try to keep all of them. During the harvest I tried to figure out a way to kill it, and the only way I could think of was to bait it into closing, then take something sharp and flat and dig at the roots. Only issue being I don't have a shovel, and using something with less reach makes any potential retaliation from the plant almost guaranteed to hit me. Maybe I'm just being paranoid, but petty revenge doesn't really feel worth it in this situation, especially not knowing what or if the plant has any defense mechanisms. I think I'm gonna settle for the fact I stripped it of fruit and try exploring the forest for water since, no matter how juicy the fruit were, I don't think they are able to properly hydrate me.

It's time to head into the forest. I have my makeshift satchel filled with the fruit on the bottom. I then layered the blue moss on top, it still has its characteristic blue glow somehow. Then my final two rocks are laying on the moss. Finally I finished the last of the water in the socks a while back and they are tied to the satchel to finish drying. Shoot I almost forgot about the stalactite. I had set it down before going to harvest the fruits the first time and it's been sitting there since. I don't think I have any choice at this point but to leave it, it's too heavy to carry along with everything else. Goodbye dear stalactite.
