Chapter 6

Log #26

I've been sitting near the wall for a while now. My right arm feels like it's on fire and I hadn't noticed before in my panic but my leg had also been bitten, though the damage isn't as bad due to my pants. It hurts to write but I need something to do other than sit and stare at the plant. It looks like an entire layer of skin was burnt off, and there are puncture wounds on my upper arm from the needle like "teeth" the plant had. The injuries are more of a nuisance than anything that will actually get in the way, I just have to hope that it didn't have any poison. I'm honestly surprised I got any fruit at all in between the panic of having it actively eat my leg and arm, along with me using one of my rocks to try and beat the thing until it let go. I have seven of the fruit in total, each of them about the size of a grape, and they've got a dark purple coloration to them. I don't know what it is, maybe I'm just weak from hunger, but the fruits feel heavier than they seem like they should. I'm going to see how edible they are.

Log #27

I took a small bite of one of the fruits and it was extremely sweet with no sour or bitter flavor to it at all leaving me feeling like I just had some strange vaguely apple textured candy. After waiting a while there didn't seem to be any aftertaste, nor did it leave any slimy films or chalky residue. I can't remember any other criteria for if something is poisonous or if those few I do remember are true at all, but there's not much else I can do, other than hope.

Log #28

I ate three of the fruits and I feel full already. There's definitely something weird about them, almost like they are more dense than they should be. There weren't any seeds in them either, even though I'm pretty sure that is typically one of the main purposes of fruit, making the weight seem even more bizarre. I can't complain about the meal that much, though it was almost sickeningly sweet. They had enough juice to at least make me feel hydrated and the lack of hunger is making me think of other things; Like how I'm going to tell the plants apart from the rest of the foliage in the future... and maybe a little temptation to try and kill this one in particular.

Log #29

My arm still hurts, but I've given it enough time to not feel too bad. I have started looking at the plant, along with its surroundings, and I noticed some things that feel kind of obvious now that I found them. There is an oval-like patch of mud surrounding the plant that doesn't seem remotely natural, especially the fact that there is no other mud in the surroundings, along with thin needle-like things sticking up around the mud's edge. They are rather thin and barely noticeable even looking closely, but from how deeply they pierced my arm before they are definitely not flimsy. From what I can tell the purple fruits are pretty distinct. I can't say for sure that the other plants and trees with purple fruit are similar to this one without getting closer to see but it doesn't seem like they dominate the forest either way. I can't seem to find any other ways to tell which ones are safe, if any, at this time. Hopefully these are enough, and that I can find more with further testing. Now all that's left, that is obvious, is testing to see what makes them activate from a, hopefully, safe distance.

Log #30

I've messed with it a bit and the results are in, almost nothing I tried so far seemed to activate it. From throwing rocks into the mud to throwing them at the plant itself, nothing happened. I even found a long stick to poke into the mud and at the plant, still nothing. I haven't tried messing with the berries yet, as I wanted to keep as many intact as possible since I was going to try to harvest all of them once I learned more, but those are the last thing I can think of to make it activate. Though I need to figure out what I'm going to do if that is the way it activates, and how I'm gonna harvest them. Along with what I'm gonna do to kill it.
