DCO: Loremaster ch 17

Terrance did not know when he dozed off. But he definitely knows when he woke up. His alarm was set to a military bugle and if it could get army grunts out of their racks, what chance did he have.

Terrance lifted his head with a groan and looked at the book he had been reading.

“ Uhh, mornings... hit alarm.”

Blinking a few times to clear the blur from his eyes, Terrance looked down at the book again and realized the bookmark looked like a fairy. A very nude fairy. Then he realized that it was not a bookmark. And that said not bookmark was now looking at him.

“ Seriously, can you be ANY louder? It’s like... wow it’s early. Not the crack of dawn early but still close.”

Then Amy noticed the deep red blush on Terrance as he not so subtly lowered his hands under the table.

“ Aww, someones blushing. Never seen a naked fairy before. Seriously, anyone who has been diving for more than a week has probably visited one of those games. Are you one of those that will look and not touch or a monk in real life or something?”

Terrance blushed even more as he looked downward. Finally breaking his gaze from her body.

“ I... uh... I barely had the game for a week and I... um... only been playing DCO so far.”

“ Oh... OH!... Ohhhhh...”

With that Amy waved her hand and a fresh dress covered her. Terrance paused to look at her again and her naked image would not leave his mind.

“ Don’t worry, you’re not the first guy to undress me with his eyes. So breakfast?”

Terrance stood up much too quickly forgetting about what he was trying to hide earlier. Amy merely giggled and flew to his shoulder.

“Explain to me again why I need to go to the dungeon.”

The dragonkin player looked at the fairy on his shoulder as he took a step forward behind a dwarf player team.

“ As I said before, my passives should get you through to the second floor easily. From there we are going to the raid instance. From my research they are hard as hell to unlock and can be done one a floor. I thought they were one a dungeon till the bone dungeon unlocked a second one called ‘war of white and black’. Which is a followup to their ‘Demon Invasion’ raid on their second floor. What I figured out is that there can be only one raid every three floors and there can not be a raid within a floor of another raid. So the earliest our dungeon can have a second raid is the forth floor. Knowing how random our dungeon is however, some idiot will stumble onto it in the sixth floor making our job that much harder. And the best place to look for clues about raids...”

“ Is in one. I got that, but why can’t we just hire some people to dive and...”

Amy pauses, seeing Terrance giving her an annoyed look.

“ Tried that. One, the raid is difficult. It literally changes you from fantasy adventure to modern shooter setting. Which is a big FU to a lot of role players. But lore wise it makes sense. They are going back in time to right before the fall of their civilization. The second reason is that the players are pursued by an alien mutant juggernaut that is unkillable till the very end. Which leaves little time for actual lore hunting.”

Amy sighs now, understanding a little of Terrance’s frustration. Then she noticed the area around her was really red. The sky and grass were red, the buildings were red, and even the air seemed a little red. Next she noticed them walking by a group of dickens. So close in fact Terrance rubbed one on the head before tossing a cob of corn at the group. She had never been this close to a mob before in DCO and that worried her a bit. Nonetheless, she remained sitting on his shoulder as he continued toward the barn. Patting animals heads, even the demon sheep, before tossing them some corn. Then before she knew it they were in front of a very tall demonic farmer.

“ Morning Mr. Jenkins. How are we today?”

“ Ah, if it isn’t my old farm hand. Good to see you again, and what’s this you found yourself a pretty little thing. I never knew you had it in you.”

Terrance could not help but chuckle shyly at that.

“ Well, you know me. Full of surprises. Since this is my day off and I am with my lady friend to the big city. I was hoping for a free pass for her for today.”

Old man Jenkins rocked back on the heels of his feet as he took his corn cob pipe from his mouth.

“ Well now that is a mighty tall order. The one upstairs is mighty fine with you going and coming as ye pleases. Because it's just one. Now making that two... There got to be an exchange.”

Terrance sighed and took a tube of iron out of his inventory, on the end of the tube was wood mounted on the end. It took Amy a moment to realize that this item was a weapon. A very famous type of weapon.

“ What farmer would be complete without his shotgun? Though it is only a prototype, and you can’t use it without the one upstairs approval. But here it is.”

The farmer smiled widely as he reinserted his pipe into his mouth and casually grabbed the weapon.

“ A mighty fine piece. If nothing else it will go over the fireplace. Maybe I can wave it around and it will scare off all those kids. All right, fair is fair. She can go, but to get past the giant toy with her will be a much bigger task.”

With the shotgun on his shoulder the farmer started to walk to his house and Terrance smiled at Amy.

“ Wait, did you just unlock a new weapon for the boss?”

Terrance merely shrugs as he walks toward the portal.
