“ Yes, young Loreright, we have noticed your actions for some time. Normally, I do not like being overruled by the one above, but I must say. I do love the new additions.”
With that, the t-rex lifted his teacup to his mouth and a small amount of motor fluid went into his jaws.
“ Truth be told after those adventurers showed up. Well, let's just say I have personal experience with what they went through.”
Terrance nodded as he sat at the table in the middle of the boss arena. When he came here, drinking tea with the t-rex was not what he pictured doing. Though having tea with a steampunk t-rex was not out of the realm of his imagination.
“ You know, you could have restarted the quest from the terminal, correct?”
Terrance took another sip of the tea. It was quite good and obviously an English blend.
“ Tell me something in return, when you do something. Is it more fun just to push a button and zap it is done, or would you rather work for it? It's all about the details.”
The t-rex boss's head bobbed pondering if he just heard sage-like advice.
“ Quite true, the chaos couple actually has a thing for details. Word is we are the most popular because they focus on those details?”
Terrance sets the teacup down and takes a notebook out and a pen.
“ Fascinating, I heard much about the governing entity of the dungeon. Care to give any details?”
The t-rex was about to open its jaws to speak but pauses in thought.
“ Care to give some details, you know?”
Terrance notices the dodge and decides to oblige the boss.
“ Well, there have been a ‘few’ instances of references about the couple upstairs...”
Stolen from its rightful author, this tale is not meant to be on Amazon; report any sightings.
That got a chuckle from the boss.
“ ... such as the luck fountain and some references to Lady Chaos. Then there is the fountain on the third floor that doubles as a trap.”
The boss raises his short arm and Terrance notices the motion and stops.
“ I can not comment on the mechanics of the dungeon, I hate to say. After all, that is why I am here at all.”
Terrance nods understanding.
“ I can see how a little knowledge can be harmful, but let me ask you about a certain incident in this very arena. When a certain team challenges you with a stadium full of onlookers...”
“ A shameful display on my part. I let my instincts drive me on that fight. I fear I put quite the black mark on the dungeon.”
Terrance took a moment to write all that was said down, not that he needed to because he was recording the conversation as well.
“ Oh, and what do you mean by black mark?”
The boss considered it a bit before letting out a deep sigh. Terrance paused terrified, seeing his hp dipping from the heat from the breath from the boss's reactor core.
“ Those above know full well what they are doing. You may have noticed a certain... pattern of things. I will not say what those are because of my directive, but I can tell you know of some of them by your line of questions thus far. It is about reputation. You may have noticed some other dungeons are failing and none quite as successful as ours. It is because those above try to maintain a balance of enjoyment for you and steady growth for us. Again I can not say more details. But when I acted out, I hurt the dungeon's reputation. A shameful day that was.”
There was a lull for a moment before the boss set his teacup down and BLU rounded the corner.
“ Ah, good timing old girl. I am sure you remember young BLU? Her test was supposed to be the gatekeeper task for you before you were able to take my own, but things have changed.”
Without prompting the two straightened up and began their transformers moment, or power rangers or Ultron.
“ So young Loreright, I ask you this. What task do you think is worthy of your ‘pathifist’ title?”
Terrance blinked a moment and thought about what he just seen.
“ Where’s the boss' music?”
The Terminus looked down at him questioning before lifting his head to seem to listen. There was the normal boss music background but the mecha dino instantly realized what the young man was referencing. He doesn’t have an epic intro tune or his own more over-the-top tone music than the regular boss.
Right then the portal to the third floor opened at the mouth of the boss's lair and Terrance stood and bowed as he made way for it. Followed by a watching SPARS unit.
