Iron doll Ch.1

Iron doll Ch.1

A scream is heard from both a woman dying and a new life entering the world, slowly the sound of heavy breathing stops and only one breath is left in the old hut barely counting as a house, if you give liberal meaning to the word house. As morning comes an older man with white hair and thread bare clothing enters the hut only to break down in grief at the sight that welcomes him, his daughter was dead, and his grandson was hardly breathing due to the cold he had been exposed to so soon after birth.

He shakily picks up his grandson and cut the umbilical cord using an old knife he kept with him; he wraps the little boy in the blanket his daughter once used in order to try and save the little one's life. He didn't have anything to start up a fire and no proper blankets to wrap the newborn all he can do is hope the child is resilient.

He puts his own blanket on top of his daughter's body after laying the child down in a wooden basin, covering the basin with one of his only two robes.

He doesn't have what is needed to raise the child and his daughter is now dead making him unable to feed the newborn what he needs, quickly he makes a decision he knows he may regret but will be the babes only chance at a future.

If you spot this tale on Amazon, know that it has been stolen. Report the violation.

Picking up the babe he hasn't had a chance to name he takes the child to the noble family that has also had a child recently and has been searching for people willing to hand their children over to be raised as soldiers, no one except the poor like him would be willing to hand over the child for what is nearly certain death.

Being a soldier of a noble means cultivating with the worst method and chances of survival are slim for those who joined, but the child is certain for death anyway as long as he succeeds, he will have a chance that few born to such station could beg for.

So, the old man goes up to one of the servants he sees outside buying food and gets on his knees.

"Please my grandson has little chance for life with me, my only option is to give him to the Baron family, I hope he may become a powerful warrior." I hold the child up to the woman and wait, the weight of the child leaves me, and I feel tears fall as I know that he has been accepted.

I turn and leave back to the hut to burry my daughter and pray that the child and only descendent may thrive, I am not even certain of the child's secondary gender as without either biological parent it is impossible to tell.

I hope he is a beta, not an omega despite his softer and more gentle features would make one think, as there has never been a success of an omega amongst the commoner guards.

All I may do is pray to the higher ones and watch as the child grows.
