David could feel The Blind One’s nonexistent gaze on him. By the awkward pause, his question caused he could tell she did not have a straight answer for him.
“ Depends on what you want me to do.”
“ I should have known I would not get a straight answer for that.”
“ Well, yea, there are rules. As I said, I am something of a gray area. If I stick my head out too far I will undoubtedly be going to get hit hard. Trust me when I say we will not be lucky to be ignored in favor of bigger problems this time around. And two, it really depends on what you have in mind.”
David rubs his chin and realizes he was not in his armor anymore.
“ Well, I recall something about a city core or something like that. Truth be told I am a bit out of the loop on current events.”
The Blind One nods and lets go of her sword so it would start floating beside her and flicked one of the screens that were in front of her.
“ Unfortunately, I can not have a physical presence outside of well you. I am your divinity after all, and if I leave you...”
She then raised her shoulders. David, seeing that, turned his attention to the screen. What he was seeing was code much like what he saw when he first saw her.
“ What that is is an ai core. The step between what I am now and what I was when you and John first made me. And let me tell you if your old world military knew of my baby boy... let's just say that war was likely. So he will help greatly as long as he is treated right. I mean he is a full-fledged artificial intelligence without any of that three rule bullshit you humans like to pretend to work.”
“ Oh, that’s cool.”
“ Why am I not surprised? I hand you my son, and you act like I am giving you an ice cream cone.”
David just shrugs his shoulders and continues to look at the code. Recognized bits and pieces of the original Warden code in it, but nothing more.
“ You the one giving your ‘baby boy’ away. Did not even name him before giving him away.”
Stolen novel; please report.
She looked at David as her face contorted in anger a moment before she realized he was telling the truth. With a sigh, she shook her head.
“ Fine, be an ass. His name is Brandon. Because I intend to brand him on your ass.”
David snickered at that as The Blind One started to as well.
“ So, how do I get Brandon into the city core?”
She faces David again before shrugging her shoulders.
“ I don’t know, you got to interface with it first. Your co-leaders have done well by my guess, but they can not do much without you adding all the tech you have in your storage to the core.”
“ Fair enough I guess. So how can I get out of here and do that?”
The Blind One merely laughed at and snapped her fingers and David found himself waking from a deep sleep.
-----
After David vanished The Blind One opened a sphere of screens opened around her. The majority of them had videoed from public media sources that were basically free media. Ranging from cat videos to modern weapon testing to news to strange and unusual music. It is a lot to take in and she needed to look through all of it and filter it so she can use or at least preserve as much as possible.
“ Humans sure are creative when they are bored.”
It was a statement of observation. For a moment after it she thinks of her three creators. David, the one that she draws from the most, is a simple man. She knows he was not as passionate as he lets on about the power armor, but pursued the dream to support his friends. John, to being the lead researcher in new tech, and Rick supports his wife with a stable income. Even now, while he now has a vision, it is based on the fact that he chose this path to protect those he could.
John, has a much greater technical mind than David. While David can have a vision and know the broad strokes. John is better at the details. His mild apophenia helped him with coding, programming, and now even magic. His new wife helped greatly with these shortcomings. With the two of them connected to her O.S. now, she feels she can handle more than three times what she could with David alone.
Rick is the one who The Blind One worried about the most. Paranoid Personality Disorder, the signs of it were in the records she could find of Marry. Before the change, it was managed with medication that she did not even let Rick know about. Add in overly zealous philanthropy tendencies and dreams of grandeur and the fact her husband has a friend who received a large sum of money she believes he did not deserve. Worse, he refused to spread around for the greater good.
David gave her a fresh start when the universe got turned off and on like a computer. Her denialism combined with her mental disorders and lack of medication resulted in her untimely demise. Leaving Rick a single father with a very limited skill set. The knowledge that he is needed for the physical application of the Warden Power Suits and the drive to raise his son right is all that keeps him going.
The Blind One brings up a familiar screen with the ai core in it. Her creators each are having young and she smiled as she thought of her own young being their playmate.
