The sun started rising around five thirty in the morning. Again, the quiet hour of early morning drew me into deep tiredness. I seriously hate this time of day after a long work night. As my dark vision turned to normal vision again, I received a prompt notifying me that I indeed got some skill increases during the night.
Skills increased:
-Dark Vision: Beginner 9, You now have a 27% increase to brightness of vision at night or in dark places. Duration: passive, Cost: N/A, cast time: N/A, cool down: N/A
-Sneak: Apprentice 1, make 21% less noise when sneaking. Blend in with your surroundings making it 21% harder to see your location.
Spell increase:
- Spike Growth: Beginner 3, Summon a patch of barbed spikes in a 23 foot radius at a center point designated by the caster anywhere within 150 feet. Spikes do 20 points of piercing damage and the enemy suffers the “rooted” debuff. The spiked area has a blended effect that makes the spikes merge into the surrounding area. Blended effects may be nullified by detect traps or higher perception levels. Spike duration: 10 min, Cost: 100 mana, cast time: 10 seconds, cool down: 1 hour.

Not too bad an increase for one night, I thought. If I keep this up every night, along with the well-rested bonuses, I should have these skills in the mid-apprentice ranks within the next week. If I could get my family someplace more defensible, I would definitely train up more of my skills regularly. Might as well take advantage of the system if this is the new way of living.
I called it a night around seven in the morning. I didn’t want to go in too early and miss out on the looters who were still working. Plus I was extremely tired from being up since noon the previous day. If I had gone in right when the sun came up, I would’ve gone to bed. Which meant I wouldn’t sleep as late in the day. I wanted to make sure whatever well-rested bonus I got would last till well after we hit the school. No wasted opportunities.
After taking off all my gear, I sat down at the kitchen table to a plate of fried ham and eggs Denise had prepared for me. No coffee this time, as I didn’t want to be awake for too much longer, plus I figured we were already out of creamer. Just a cold glass of water with the meal. I was already missing milk though. That would be one of my goals, to get a dairy heifer or ten, so we could have milk for breakfast. Oh and cheese, definitely cheese.
After breakfast, I took another “Navy shower” and went to lay down. Denise had slept a bit throughout the night but wanted to cuddle up with me, which I had no problem with at all. The more time I get to spend with her and the kids the better. Scooting up behind her, I whispered in her ear, “Goodnight baby I love you,” and then tapped my wedding ring on hers three times. “Goodnight baby I love you too,” was her reply as she held my hand. I fell asleep within seconds.
