With the two officers ahead of me, and my gun drawn, I followed them to the PD's back door. I left Dog outside for better protection for my partners still loading stuff into the suburban. TJ’s office was only 20 feet from the back door, so whatever happened would happen fast. The officers did as requested and walked down the hallway and past TJ’s door. I recognized TJ’s voice as he called out “what are you guys doing, why aren’t you on duty outside?”
I hugged up to the wall, about five feet from the doorway. I heard TJ get out of his chair and approach the door. When TJ exited his office, he failed to look left, turning to the officers standing in the hallway in front of him. Not knowing what else they were supposed to do, the two officers turned towards TJ but didn’t respond to him. I crept forward, activating sneak. I placed my firearm to the back of TJ’s head with my left hand. Cocking it as I had done to the two officers outside. I ordered TJ not to move and reached forward with my right hand, activating the safety on TJ’s holster and retrieving his firearm. I then told TJ to go down to his knees and onto his stomach.
After TJ complied, he looked over at the two officers and asked, “why aren’t either of you doing anything about this?”
“You don’t think I’d come in here with two armed people do you?" I asked. I removed their ammo from their guns and holsters. TJ looked up at me as I holstered my own firearm. I did a press check, ensuring TJ’s gun had a round chambered and held it on the man.
“I thought that was your voice Derrick, you piece of shit," TJ said.
“See," I responded with a smile. I knew you had missed me. And always with the nicest things to say.” I looked over at the two officers and told them to cuff him. When TJ was cuffed, I had them lift him off the ground and stand him up against the wall. I looked at the keys hanging from TJ’s belt and noticed that not only the Ford key was hanging there but the armory key as well.
“Well, well, well," I stated. Holding all the goodies for yourself huh?” I took the keys off the belt and tossed them to one of the officers. “You two go outside and get that truck pulled around here. And don’t forget the fuel switch down by the seat. Let the glow plugs warm up. It's an old truck. Then go back to what you were doing."

"I knew they were working for you, how else could they not have been caught by you?" TJ infuriated.
“The same way you were, you arrogant ass.” I replied as I took off TJ’s belt and shoved him back into his office.
“So this is what you’ve become,” TJ said.
“And what’s that?" I replied.
“A good for nothing thief,” TJ accused.
I laughed. “If it means my family’s survival, a thief is the least of what I will be. For my family I would do great and terrible things,” I said, quoting a trendy military shirt I once owned. “And in order to commit a crime, you need a victim," I replied. Who is the victim here? The city? The state? None of those things exist anymore. This is an apocalypse, you self-righteous ass-hat. Where is the chief, the mayor or even the city councilors? Hell, where is your senior commander for that matter? While we're at it, where are the rest of your police officers? You’re a blind man and a joke. Who’s taking care of your family right now while you’re sitting on your ass bossing two rookie cops around?” TJ had no answers to any of my questions. I just scoffed in TJ’s face and pushed him down into his office chair.
I searched through TJ’s cabinets and found a roll of duct tape and taped TJ to his chair. I then put tape over his mouth and around his head. I pulled out one of the folding blades I took from one of the officers and placed it on the desk, along with a handcuff key. “Even though I don’t like you," I said, and think you’re an arrogant piece of shit who thinks he’s better than everyone else. I’m not intending to hurt you. However, I’m also not willing to let you get up and come after me while I finish what I need to do tonight. So here’s the plan. I'll leave this knife and the key to your cuffs here on the table. It’s up to you to figure out how to use them. I'll shut your door and head back outside. If I hear that door open or see you coming out after me, I’m going to end you. I wouldn’t want that for your family. So just sit right here and when you hear that loud Ford truck leaving the area, you can start removing yourself, okie dokie? Good.”
As I was about to leave TJ’s office, I noticed a tac vest hanging on a coat rack behind the door. The tac vest was new and WAY nicer than mine. I looked back at TJ and said, “Well I don’t think you really need this so I’m going to put it to better use.” I took the tac vest off the rack, scooped up TJ’s duty belt and shut and locked the door while whistling the whole time.
