Chapter 12- Home Alone

Chapter 12- Home Alone

9:00 PM August 3rd, 2423

North of A-city, at a lighthouse, footsteps appeared on the ground but were quickly washed away by the heavy rain.

These footprints that appeared and disappeared in the rain belonged to a human but this human was not visible.

Though the falling rain did show the silhouette of the person and what could be discerned by that was the outline of a man.

This man who was invisible seemed to head in a direction that was closed off to civilians and after walking for two hours he stopped in front of a large gate that had the letter R in the middle.

Rumble Rumble

As lightning flashed, a massive mansion loomed in the distance beyond the closed gate.

The man who had been standing there had vanished, his silhouette reappearing on the other side of the gate.

It appears that the man may have jumped over the gates. However, considering the height he would have had to jump, it's safe to assume he was not an ordinary invisible person.

The walls and gate both towered at a height of twenty meters.

Walking closer to the mansion memories flashed back in his mind.

Memories of a time he was in a wheelchair and people attending to him.

Every time he was going in or out of the mansion there were people welcoming him and sending him off.

And all those times someone walked beside him yet on that day he left the mansion with another maid and a new driver.

That day erased everything he thought was good.

And thinking of that he became annoyed.

“Tch”

If it wasn’t for them he might have taken the surgery by now.

That day was the day his dream was gonna become true.

He intended to propose after he recovered from the surgery knowing full well the answer would be no, nonetheless, he was happy anticipating it.

Finally reached the stairs of the mansion he quickened his pace appearing in front of the door.

Standing there no rain touched him and his silhouette was not visible anymore.

An invisible man stood in front of the door and if it wasn’t for the rain showing his silhouette before approaching there no one would have seen him, but it didn’t matter that the rain showed his silhouette because this place was abandoned.

‘Why was I called No. 0002?’ Rex wearing the amulet of invisibility asked himself.

This whole time walking through the rain while invisible was to check on how the surroundings had changed but like always it remained the same.

As in the time spent walking from the lighthouse to his mansion, he used up too many amulets but that didn’t matter to him.

He had a feeling that this would happen when he thought of returning back after consolidating the strength he gained after slaying all the dinosaurs.

It was a difficult task but because of his shadow that mentored him, he could do it in just a few days.

And now although immature he can use his strength efficiently like how he jumped over the gate when he was standing so close to it.

Standing before the mansion door he hesitated to bust in as he had no key and looked nothing like his old self.

Not to mention there where was no one in or around the mansion.

“Haa… A-T you mentioned that so long as I have a visual of the place I want to go I can teleport in right?”

[Yes host can do that but for the host to use the banner you must be either on the pasture wanting to go to the place or at the place wanting to go back to the pasture.]

What it essentially means is that Rex can go anywhere as long as he remembers the location that is while he is on the pasture island.

Going in is easy but going out requires the memory of the location thus the visual thought of it before teleporting.

“Fine!” Pulling out his banner he returned to the island and teleported again to somewhere.

Woash

The invisible Rex appeared inside the mansion his back touching against the door he wanted to burst through.

In a sigh, Rex spoke robbing his forehead… “Damn, I should have done this before wasting all those amulets and banners!”

F-City National Moutain Range, West of Metro Citedal.

F-City is divided into two parts a small urban city and a mountain range that’s for the animals and in between is a park and the police HQ separating the two parts.

This city has the lowest number of civilians and has the most hotels in Metro Citedal as many visit it for the scenery and the history recorded in this place.

Inside an apartment stood Sonya in the shower with a dazed look as if she was in her own little world.

But suddenly getting her out of her daze was a ringing tone in the living room.

This in return made her turn off the shower and put on a towel heading there to answer the call.

Arriving there she set answering the call as a woman in glasses appeared sitting next to her on the couch and from the looks she was a cyborg as most of her body was of a machine.

“Yeah, what's up!” She said fiddling with her hair.

“So I heard you’ve been put on suspension what did you do this time?”

She answered with an unbothered look… “Lots of things!”

The woman in glasses started to get annoyed saying. “You can’t keep doing this.”

“What of it!” Replied Sonya with a shrug.

“Sigh… Why did I even bother? Just know that the offer still stands so meet me at the coffee shop down at the museum district.” Finally wanting not to stay and talk anymore the woman in glasses said what she called for before her hologram disappeared.

Stolen from its rightful author, this tale is not meant to be on Amazon; report any sightings.

“And I thought I was the rode one!”

After saying that she stared at a photo on the wall thinking back to the calls she received from her family over these days where they argued about her lifestyle.

But who would have thought today she would receive a call from her old friend who works for those despised corporation bastards?

A few hours later Sonya stood in front of a coffee shop holding an umbrella it was said it was gonna rain heavily at noon today so she didn’t forget her umbrella.

Ring

Entering the coffee shop the bell at the door rang alarming the owner that a customer has entered.

“Welcome customer how may I be of service?” As soon as she entered a waitress took her umbrella hanging on the side as she asked what she needed.

“Oh give me two cups of sweet milk tea?”

Hearing her words the waitress just stared at her making her wonder what was up!

Before she said another thing suddenly a shout came her way…

“Surprise!” The waitress suddenly removed her face like it was a mask revealing someone else underneath.

It was a woman about the same age as her with an eyepatch her face looking wild.

“Woah!” Sonya exclaimed greatly shocked as she almost threw a punch at the perpetrator who turned out to be another old friend of hers.

It seemed that her friend played a prank on her as her laughter echoed in the coffee shop catching the gazes of everyone.

“What the hell was that for can’t you for once in your life greet me normally?” Sonya asked in fury not liking the behavior of her friend.

It also seemed they had a history of things like this happening.

“Okay, okay maybe that wasn’t nice but you should have seen your face it was priceless!” As her friend spoke she couldn’t stop the laughter that still continued to come out of her mouth as she chuckled from time to time.

“Tch”

Darting her face around Sonya looked for someone but didn’t see anyone besides the other customers who had their time disturbed by them giving them fierce looks.

"Where is she? Since she was the one who called, I hope she's here and not late, even though she set the meeting time." Asked Sonya as she didn't find the person she looked for.

“Oh don’t worry about that come with me I’ll take you to her!” Seeing that Sonya wanted to get over with their meeting her friend beckoned her to follow.

Moments later they arrived at a table where a guy in steampunk goggles and a lady with a foldable hand fan set opposite of each other.

The lady wore an eastern dress that covered every part of her body except her face in which she used the folding fan to cover it.

Sonya looked at the two that set there who she couldn’t recognize at all.

“And they are?” She asked the person who brought her to them but found no one there feeling an urge of irritation as she said to herself…

‘Why did I even bother to come here.’

For a second she felt reluctant to leave but was stopped by a voice she knew too well.

“Sit we have too much to discuss.” Said the lady with the fan.

“Huh?” A wave of tsunami hit her as she heard the voice staring at the lady.

“Before you ask we don’t have time for that sit we even prepared your favorite tea.” The lady spoke again waving the fan next to her indicating for her to sit there.

Sonya set understanding the meaning behind her words.

Sitting next to her Sonya gave odd looks at the man with the goggles and her friend who looked unrecognizable.

Noticing her odd look the lady spoke. “This is my new acquaintance a craftsman whose value is high, Rony… Rony meet Sonya Sord.” While pausing in between she introduced them to each other.

“Oh, you're the one they call Red, I heard so much about you it’s a pleasure.” Said the man in goggles.

“Same.” With a smile, she said just one word looking back to her friend.

“Ahh, yes you are curious but we have much to discuss so let me start when Sara returns.”

Just as she finished saying that the woman who greeted Sonya returned back wearing a maid-like uniform with many pockets like a military uniform.

Everything about her looked weird and she exuded a different kind of vibe because she returned with a weapon that was wrapped in cloth.

And from the outline most likely a large battle Axe.

“I’ve changed let’s begin!” Said Sara who set opposite Sonya holding in chuckles.

“Enough I told you your jokes aren’t funny and now because of you I have to… Oh well, what the hell am I saying that was hilarious.” Saying that the lady with the fan also chuckle amused at what happened to Sonya.

“I see that you guys haven’t grown since the academy but can you get on with why we are here for because I didn’t come here for my time to be wasted.” Said Sonya to both her friends who chuckled at her.

Stopping her chuckles the lady said. “You got me! Ahm, so like I said the offer still stands and now that you are here it means you are open to hearing it.”

“Yes.” Replied Sonya.

“OK, so you see in the past month we have been scooping around a lot in preparation for the hero exam that sparked many shady groups to come here.” As she said that she turned to Sonya who said I know that…

“And while doing so we also heard of what you did…” Suddenly Sonya interrupted saying.

“Where were you guys spying on me?”

“Oh relax even if we wanted to we couldn’t since our hands were full and you weren’t worth it since you are an officer of the law.” The woman who was called Sara said in a cheeky manner.

“Are you mocking me, Sara?”

“Of course, it would sound mocking to you since you think everything revolves around you, we are people whose work is all about technology and what are you a brute officer who’s got an attitude!” Said Sara taking offense to what Sonya said.

“Enough you two I’m running out of patience here.”

“Where was I ah yes… As I said we heard a lot about the things you’ve been doing and knowing that you and your family’s way of life weren’t matched I said to myself why not give her a call since a slot is still available for her at our location.”

Hearing what the lady had to say Sonay somewhat felt complicated inside asking what she wanted. “And you are suggesting what exactly?” Asked Sonya her ears open to hear.

“All I’m saying is this my boss... let me repeat myself the big boss of our company is making a new team and a lot of heavy hitters are in there.”

Receiving a weird look from Sonya she continued to say. “Thinking of the heavy hitters I remembered you back in the academy you had so much potential that all the super kids looked nothing compared to you…”

The man in the goggles and Sara both listened in on what was being said not interrupting as the lady continued.

“...And now you are even more amazing with all your enhancements the exoskeleton, the mobile speed, and the superhuman strength… I’m telling you are wasted here join us and you will have the freedom of battling supers not some petty criminals in alleys.”

After the lady said that the table became quiet waiting for Sonya's response.

Discussing sensitive topics in a coffee shop can be risky, but these individuals took precautions by utilizing sound-blocking and facial expression-masking devices, ensuring their privacy and security.

“Hmm, I’m not convinced that’s all what else is there?” Asked Sonya in doubt.

“Yes, there is more you know that this year's hero exam would start here right?” Asked the lady as she took a sip of a coffee.

Without even thinking Sonya replied with a nod.

“I want to be transparent with you about the upcoming exam. It's predicted that around twenty new recruits will pass, which means there's a high chance of a large-scale attack from the villains. Considering your past actions against the people at HQ, they may have sent you there with the expectation that you won't come back..”

Sonya's face turned dark upon hearing that she wanted not to believe what was said but it couldn't be ignored too so she gave in asking the lady to continue.

“We know politics well when you repeatedly stopped their plans they had enough of you I mean just think about it why were the reinforcements late when you confronted those guys who were trading a chip that was meant for the HQ police forces.”

“No?” Sonya covered her mouth in shock.

“Yes they may have not told you what the item was but that was something that came in for them yet it fell into the hands of the underworld's dogs.”

“You don’t mean to say?” Sonya asked as if she came to a realization.

“The agent was the dealer as for the reason of his death most likely when you showed up they thought it was a trap.”

With a serious face, the lady put down the folded fan looking into Sonya's eyes. “Sonya I’ve already submitted your file to them so prove to them that you are as capable as I know you are and you shall have ARMTECH’s support.”

Sonya's face revealed an unprecedented combination of emotions, as she maintained unwavering eye contact with her friend.

9:50 PM August 3rd

The rain continued to pour as Rex went threw his old house.

Rex packed in quite the stuff teleporting them to the pasture island he even went as far as to teleport furniture let alone clothes.

After packing the place clean he stared at what was a vault that held the family documents the vault was empty surprising him but then he said to himself.

‘Since I’m dead to them they are of no significance.’

With that, he left the place returning to his pasture having somewhere else in mind.
