Halloween Event (Pt. 4): Fleeing The Fire Fight

--- Maya ---

Grimacing to herself she pulled out her COMP and began adjusting her sonic energy burst to open the door without causing so much noise or damage that it would attract the attention of the two Deviants fighting behind her.

(Are you sure this is a good idea?) Her inner logic wondered.

(Maybe not but we’ve got to make sure they don’t get hurt.) She told herself.

(Vi already knows we’re an M.A.D. So what does it matter if Tommy finds out.) Her inner madness added. (Besides he ain’t no snitch bitch.)

Once her program was ready she inhaled before turning to her still bickering siblings. “Step aside.”

“Maya?” Vi blinked before her eyes widened as she recognized the COMP in Maya’s hands, “What are you doing?”

“I’m opening the door.” She answered walking closer to it.

“Uh, how are you going to do that?” Tommy asked, eyeing the device in her hands.

“Like this.” She said, before firing off her Burst(Sonic) program at the door, causing it to shake but not open as the door slammed against something on the other side. “Fuck, they blocked off the otherside.”

“W-what the fuck was that?” Tommy stammered out.

“A high powered sonic pulse condensed into a thirty degree angle and fired at a half meter distance instead of a three-sixty angle with a twenty meter radius.” She broke down as she stepped to the side and fired said sonic pulse at an angle hoping to take advantage of the door’s hinges for superior leverage.

Once more the door shook but this time the gap opened up about half a foot. (Which isn’t enough for us to squeeze through.)

Glancing over her shoulder, she saw a teen in one of the Gamer Guild’s hoodies dancing around the Burning Man while occasionally lashing out with a pair of spectral arms floating behind her before being blasted back by a wave of flames.

Shaking her head, she once more adjusted her angle while idly hearing Tommy ask Vi if she knew about this, before firing another Burst(Sonic) and forcing the door open about half a meter.

“We should be able to get through now.” She told her siblings as she started squeezing through the gap.

Once she was through, she walked a bit away from the gap, knowing that her siblings were just behind her and not entirely sure how they’d react to what she just did.

Vi because she’d just done something a little more offensive than anything her sister had seen before. (We’ll have to figure out something to tell her when she asks.)

And Tommy who hadn’t known she was an M.A.D. at all before this. (He’s not going to care, he’s too laid back for that.)

(I’m still going to have to figure out what I’m going to tell him too.)

“Okay, okay… You’re a… an M.A.D.” Tommy said once he and Vi had followed her out into the trainyard proper. “Cool… cool… I just need a minute to process.”

“I… can’t tell if he’s taking this better or worse than you did.” She admitted to Vi as she watched Tommy ‘process’.

“So you did know about this?” Tommy nodded with a look at their elder sister.

“Yeah, she… she told me during the summer festival… She um, she used this thing -that thing- to help find Izzy.” Vi explained with a gesture towards Maya’s COMP. “But I didn’t know it could blow a door off its hinges.”

“It’s not that strong.” She denied, half honestly if you ignored her Hand Cannons. “I needed a couple shots just to open the door, and a lot of that was based on leverage and targeted weaknesses in the structural integrity.”

“And why did your… thing have a… sonic blaster?” Vi asked, with a half suspicious gaze.

“Because-” A sudden explosion from inside the train station had all three of them wincing.

“Um, I think we should probably walk and talk.” Tommy chuckled a little nervously, as he pulled out his phone.

“Right, yeah.” Vi agreed with a grimace as the nearby wall seemed to shake. “The car shouldn’t be too far away, so we just, we just need to get back to the car and we’ll be in the clear.”

Once they started moving she began to fiddle with the device in her hand before saying, “I call it a COMP, it um… it’s mostly a processor for super software? Like that minimap GPS thing I showed you, but I’ve added like a medical scanner to it… And I use a sonar thing I made by repurposing some of Tommy’s old Amps to get sonic imaging instead of X-Rays or something radioactive… I um, I repurposed those by focusing down their sonar pulses and then overclocking it with… enough power to run our entire house for a bit…”

“That’s why you were collecting so much junk over the summer.” Tommy guessed, remembering all of her scavenging from around the house a couple of months prior. “You were building that thing, your COMP… I’m guessing short for computer or something?”

“Computational Operating Mega Processor.” She answered.

“And how long did it take you to come up with that acronym?” Her hermano snorted.

“I… ‘m not going to answer that.” She told him, feeling just a bit of heat in her cheeks.

“Yeah, I’m guessing you gave up on clever acronyms when you made your… little minions.” Vi noted, having apparently accepted her explanation for why she had the tools to cause a sonic bang.

“Little minions?” Tommy repeated in an odd tone.

“Yeah, these little furry squirrel looking things she grew that help make other inventions.” Vi explained with her own odd tone. (The weirdos.)

“Oh.”

“Technically the LCMs are based more on rat DNA than squirrel.” She told her elder siblings. “Mostly because DM-1 was throwing the rats he killed into the bio-pod when I assigned him to cleaning.”

“Demone?” Vi frowned.

“Oh, uh, he was the first one I made.” She explained, hoping Vi would just assume that he was another LCM.

“Uh-huh, and he kills things?” Tommy laughed oddly.

“That uh, that sounds… worse than it is?” She offered, (knowing that it’s a blatant lie.) (Shut up!) “I uh, trained him out of that…” (more or less…) (She lies.) (I said shut up!)

“That’s uh, that’s good.” Vi nodded, with a manic laugh. “Oh, look there’s the car!”

The night suddenly grew very bright, and they all turned around to watch a massive silver hand slam an equally massive fireball into the ground, unleashing a pillar of fire into the air and lighting the world as if it were day.

“So, um… home?” She asked, knowing that whatever that was was probably beyond her pay grade.

“Yeah, home sounds nice right about now.”
