Vol 1 Ch 10: Broken Veins

~January 2nd, afternoon~

WOOSH! WOOSH! WOOSH!

It's been four hours since Major Samuel picked up the sword. And it doesn't seem like he had any intent of stopping. Moves after moves were executed, along with the continuous waves crashing the beach.

As he moved, the sweats on his shirtless body glistened under the sun. His body looked like it was made of bright copper.

This has been Samuel's daily routine ever since he became the commander of Helldoor. The soldiers, after a session of condensing their unused powers into elemental crystals, would go out and hunt. As for Samuel, he would train his aura skills.

That's right. Unlike the rest of Helldoor, Samuel is an Auror. Nicknamed Crossfire, he is feared on the battlefield. His skill, the Cross Slash, could turn the enemies into ash in an instant.

Unfortunately, due to an ambush in battle, the revered Major had damaged the energy veins in his body. It has been four years, yet he still cannot use his aura properly. A clear evidence of how terrifying it is if one overexerted one's energy veins.

“Huu! Done!” Samuel exclaimed excitedly.

He checked on his physical condition, and a hint of pride blossomed in his heart. He felt like at his peak right now.

Then, an idea occurred in his head. The more he thought about it, the more plausible it became. Hence, after mulling it over for a while, he decided to go with it.

He assumed his fighting stance again. Right foot forward a step, both knees bent slightly. His sword is unsheathed, and was raised over his head. As if he was in the middle of slashing his opponent.

Soon, his sword gradually began to emit a reddish glow.

The glow turned brighter and brighter until, eventually, the sword combust into flames adorning its blade.

“ARGHHH!”

The sword fell from his hands, the flames instantly extinguished. Samuel also fell on the sandy beach, squirming and writhing in pain.

“Damn it, Commander! I told you not to use any aura skills!” A voice suddenly boomed.

Samuel smiled as he talked through his gritted teeth. “...he he…so…sorry, Brenda. I…I thought…I…would be…fine…”

Brenda shook her head. She placed her right palm on Samuel's stomach. When they came here, they were given this skill. The technique to dispel energy buildup inside one's body. A precaution in case one of the Helldoor soldiers has excess energy in their core.

“I know how you feel, Commander. But you have to be patient. The treatment to cure your shriveled up energy is a slow process. You cannot be hasty about this.”

Samuel was feeling better as more energy was dispelled from his body. “Hehe. Although I hate to see you throw your future prospects away by following me here, I gotta say that I'm sure glad you're here.”

“Who else is gonna take care of you, old man?! Besides, a holiday by the beach ain't bad at all

Right?”

Samuel smiled bitterly and said nothing. Leaving Brenda to focus on her dispelling technique. In his mind, Samuel scoffed. ‘Bah, what beach holiday? It's a frozen beach with freezing waves of water.’

Both of them knew the truth. Brenda is here, because of him. Back then, during the fight, a Chaos Beast launched a Purple Fire towards their squadron. The Commander shielded his unit with his body. The chaos contained inside the fire burned his entire energy veins.

Everybody in Samuel's unit was alive. But at a great cost. Samuel's energy veins had not only shriveled up, but a few parts were partially blocked. This injury, while treatable over a long period of treatment, ended his career.

He left Phoenix Military Complex. Grateful for his contributions, the Duke General gave him a new task as the commander of Helldoor.

His unit wanted to come with, but Samuel ordered them not to. Only Brenda was adamant. Plus, being a mage, only she could perform the treatment to slowly correct and unblock Samuel's veins.

After a round of treatment, Samuel's breath eased up. “I thought that the veins had cleared up already. Hehehe…OWWW!”

Brenda slapped his forehead. “Until the healers tell you that it's okay, please refrain from this self-diagnosis.”

“Damn, that hurts! You shouldn't abuse the disabled, you know?” Samuel grumbled as he rubbed his forehead.

And both of them broke out into laughter.

At this time, both of them were already standing up. Samuel and Brenda was about to go in for their lunch, when Samuel heard his name being frantically called upon.

“...Commander! Commander!”

Both the Major and the Captain turned around. “What is it Kon?”

Kon is one of the soldier of Helldoor. “Haa…haa…Commander…that kid…the Young Master…”

Alarm bell began to ring inside both top dogs of Helldoor. “You mean Lord Jet? What about him?”

“The guys that went fishing…they found him.”

“Huh? Found him? Found him where?”

“...they found him offshore. Clinging on a piece of wood. Probably from the wreckage of a ship.”

Samuel and Brenda looked at each other. What is the Duke's son doing in the middle of the ocean?

“Quick! Show us where!”

And the three rushed towards where the dock was.
