Volume 5: Chapter 41: End (Part 1)

“Another day is over. Goodness, I don’t know how mortals do it, pretending to be not tired after an entire day’s worth of burdens”

The Secondary Goddess of Humanity, Merina sighed in exhaustion.

As decreed by the King of Gods, the deities are only allowed to walk among mortals while their powers are sealed away in order to minimize interfering with the fate of the reality.

Another reason was in order to not cause needless destruction.

The power each individual deity held was so great that they were easily capable of erasing anything or anyone from existence.

So the limitation placed on their power was essentially to prevent them from destroying from what they have been so desperate to preserve.

Merina: “But without my powers, I am practically powerless. And I do need to eat too…”

As a goddess, she was ageless and couldn’t be killed by natural means. But that did not make her immune to hunger, as strange as it sounded.

And since she was going to be here for a while, she found a job in order to support herself.

Since manual labor was out of question, Merina looked around and found some charlatan by the name of Willow, who was running a failing business as a fortune teller.

Merina worked for Willow for exactly one day as an assistant before replacing Willow as the head Fortune Teller.

The story has been taken without consent; if you see it on Amazon, report the incident.

The reason for that was simple.

Fate Reading.

Even with their powers sealed away, deities possessed an innate ability to perceive the fates of mortals.

Technically, it was cheating, but desperate times call for desperate means.

Within a week, the failing business of Fortune Telling turned prosperous and it became something of a local sensation.

Every Fortune Merina foretold had come true.

Merina: “Even if someone knows what will happen, the fate is set in stone. No damage done on my part and I get to make a profit from it. It is clear win-win”

As for why Merina was here in the first place instead of Heaven, it was due to her superior, Serena’s orders.

Serena was considered the Secondary Goddess of Humanity as a whole, in a sense she was the goddess that was in charge of the other secondary deities.

If going by ranks, then Solaris was at the very top, the Big Five and Lord Michael below him and below them was Serena.

The other Secondary gods were subdivided based on their responsibilities under those big names.

All the Secondary Deities in charge of humanity were under Serena’s command.

Their task was to observe humanity and find the cause of all the anomalies that have been happening so far within the human kingdom.

The ones responsible needed to be found and eliminated before they caused too much damage.

Faeris, the Goddess of Fate, was desperately trying to fix the anomalies in order to make sure that the reality was still going in the original direction.

Merina: “I guess that will be all for today”

Then, Merina heard someone walk in. He was wearing a hooded robe over his head.

Merina: “Sorry, we are closed now”

Stranger: “Oh really? In that case, I do hope that you would be able to spare me just a little bit of your time, Goddess-sama”

Merina: “Wha…Who are you?” he easily exposed her as a deity.

He took off the hood to reveal a black haired man, with one half of his face like that of a normal human, but the other half was that of an undead lich.

Two eyes, one crimson and one ghostly white were focused on her.

Dark Lord: “Please allow me to introduce myself. I am the one known as the Dark Lord….”
