020 - Whirling Death

Snorri gave chase the moment the fleeing goblin disappeared from his sight. As he rounded the bend in the tunnel, Snorri began to spin his sword. He drew comfort from its now-familiar whistle. As he neared the end of the tunnel, a small circle of flickering green fire lights came into view. The goblins, it seemed, had lit more of their smokless green fires in the chamber beyond. Snorri could see the body of the spearmen, now peppered with goblin arrows crumpled just inside the room; apparently, whatever goblin was in the chamber beyond, they had either shot blindly at anything moving in the tunnel or turned on their comrade as he tired to flee. Snorri brought the spinning blade up in a defence circle, the highest point of orbit half a foot above his head and the lowest just inches from the smooth metallic floor of the chamber, and advanced towards the green-lit archway at the tunnel's end.

As Snorri reached the edge of the shadows, just before the tunnel’s opening, the dead goblin in the centre of the chamber suddenly spoke, “IT IS A WIZARD BOSS. Be careful," it said in something between words and gurgling. The sounds of goblin bow strings being pulled to tension echoed around the chamber. Snorri continued the defensive spinning of his chained blade and stepped into the chamber. “SHOOT IT!” Screamed a large goblin, pointing a large sword directly at Snorri. Nine goblins bowed and pinged, and nine arrows sung through the air. Four hit the walls, flying wide of the gnome. Arracop’s blade, now spinning at such a speed to make it nearly impossible for the arrow to get through, sent splinters flying as it cut through the remaining six crudley-flitched arrows and sent them clattering harmlessly to the floor.

Snorri flung the blade, spinning his body in a full turn. He sent its sword forward with all of the momentum of its defessive spinning. It caught the goblin with the sword square in the chest and sent him thudding into the wall. The goblin’s eyes widened. “SHOOT THE WIZARD!” he screamed to his archer with his last breath. Snorri pulled the arracop back towards him, but it was too late. As the sword sung back towards his outstretched hand, nine goblin arrows were loosed from their bows. Snorri was forced to dive back into the darkness of the tunnel to avoid getting shot. He rolled to his feet and brought the arracop bacck to a spin. He could here shuffling goblin footsteps in the chamber beyond. He looked through the entrance. From his position, he only had a limited field of vision, but he was sure that if he waited, eventually one of the goblins would be sent to see if he was indeed still in the tunnel.

Snorri was right. After thirty seconds or so, a shakey goblin bow came into the veil, followed by its weilder. Snorri threw the sword. It impaled the goblin as it strained its eyes to try to get them to adapt to the dark faster. It let out a shriek as the arracop punctuated through the creature. Snorri dragged the body back into the tunnel. Using the chained blade as a grusome fishing rod, he reeled in the goblin archer. Quietly in the darkness beyond the goblish fire, Snorri wrenched his sword free. The goblin stopped screaming. Worried goblish muttered and went through the goblins. Snorri stood up. He was done waiting. Brining arracop's defensive spin, he stepped fourth once more into the green light.

Eight goblin arrows broke against his spinning guard. Snorri quickly snapped his eyes around the room. The eight goblins had advanced on the tunnel entrance while he had fallen back in the moments before. At close range, it appeared the creature's accuracy was much improved. Snorri charged at the close goblin to him. He swung Arcop’s spinning blade at the creature. The goblin instinctively raised its bow to block the sword. Snorri’s vicious slash sent the blade down in a might slash. cutting through both goblin and bow with ease and returning Arracop to its spinning position just in time for another barrage of these timie seven arrows.

A shower of splinters hit the ground at Snorri’s feet. The gnome let out a raw and threw his blde directly at a trio of goblin archers. The trio tried to dodge. Unfortunately for them, all three of them tried to dodge through the other two. as the three goblins bumped into each other and opened their mouths to begin what would surely be a mighty argument. Arracop pierced through the three goblins, webbing them together in a gorey blend of spider web and whale hunter harpoon. Another five pings sung through the room, and Snorri roared and sprang towards the sound of the arrows. instinuating attempt to pull his blade up to parry. forgetting it was currently lodged in the trio of corpses.

As the arrows sailed towards Snorri Arracops, the chain and blade tore free of their blood-soaked resting place. Tearing free of the corpses, it sang through the air with such speed and momentum that Snorri was carried along with it. The blade, now orbiting the snorris body as he span, pulled the gnome from where he had been in the second before. On its first spin, he was pulled clear of the arrows. The second spin and the sword had cleaved two of the remaining goblins in twain. By the end of the third spin, ten halves of goblin archers had all hit the floor.

Snorri weezed and limped his way across the room. Whatever its purpose had been before the goblins, Snorri could not tell. Either way, after a few moments of searching, he found the grate. He was looking four close to the northernmost corner of the large room. He opened the grate with a whine of rusted metal. a horrific stench reach his nostrils. He suddenly had the sinking realisation that this must be a sewer pipe. Snorri looked down into the tunnel. A menacingly brown liquid trickled down the tunnel floor. Snorri did his best to ignore the smell and swung his feet down onto the squelching tunnel floor.
