Chapter 6
After dismissing classes for the day at the university. Ahmad was watching the ongoing feud outside with Coldfusion and the SVCA. After not getting any answers, they loaded Coldfusion into the truck to be taken away for questioning by Mr. Flinch. I’m glad that is over with. Hope they keep Coldfusion locked up for a long time. Ahmad thought to himself with a distain for villains and heros.
Ahmad then made his way to Obsidian Energy Labs to try to figure out what had just occurred. He wanted to know why the obsidian exploded like that. Obsidians were known for having explosive properties. He was clueless why just throwing it made it explode. The trip took him about 30 minutes of driving to get to Obsidian Energy Labs. He made his way for his parents’ old lab to do some research. He was greeted by his assistant Dr. Kelly Green as he walked in the door.
“It is good to see you, Ahmad. I wasn’t expecting you here today. How was the presentation.” asked Kelly.
Ahmad sighed covering his hand over his face. Then pinching his nose before speaking. “Same old villain and hero shenanigans. Honestly, can I ever get a break with out some battle going on nearbye. I had to cancel classes for the day because of the issue that had happened.”
Ahmad paused for a second to collect himself as he spoke again. “Anyways, I came by here to see if I could find anything in my parent’s old records or find any leads. I had gotten frustrated after they blew up the a tank full of liquid nitrogen. I threw this piece of black obsidian between the two of them. For some reason it exploded causing some weird effects after I saw the two being interrogated by the SVCA.” Ahmad told Kelly.
He was confused to why it had exploded like that and tried to come up with ideas. He asked her what she thought on the matter. Dr. Green had some theories since black obsidian sometimes could be unstable in certain situations. “My leading theory is the left-over liquid nitrogen might have ignited the black obsidian.” Dr. Kelly said with a shrug.
Ahmad just nodded. “Could you at least look around the lab to see if you can find anything or more info about stuff like this.I am going to go to the library and look at some other research materials.” Ahmad aksed Kelly with a smile. “Sure, if I find anything I’ll let you know.”
“Thanks.” Replied Ahmad as he made his was to the library at the energy labs.
Ahmad arrived at the library for Obsidian Energy Labs. He wanted to do see what resources the library had on the powers and uses of black obsidian. Ahmad spent hours digging throw the library. He skimmed over the books he had already known about. He did more skimming of new titles. With no luck as well. Ahmad soon was getting frustrated as he continued to look with no progress. He decided to ask the librarian Ms. Roberson about any info about or topics about black obsidian.

She told Ahmad that there might be an old book of research by an unknown alchemist had published. The book’s name was Dark Obsidian. Apparently, the book had been stored away in Ahmad’s parent’s research locker. When his parents had died it was left in the locker for ages before it was discovered. It had a few pages missing from it from what he was told. It had been placed into the archives and forgotten.
He asked if he could look at the book. She gave him the access key to get into the secure vault of old books and relics. He put on rubber gloves and carefully opened it and started to read. He opened the index and skipped to the part about black obsidian. There he looked at many different properties of black obsidian that was already known, common myths, legends, etc.
He finally came to a part that had effects on humans that were known and unknown. An interesting article of the topic caught his eye. He started to read the section. It relayed similar events of his life to what the article said. The thing was it was hard to prove since it was considered a myth of legend. The legend had a similar twist to what was going on in his life. The main curiosity that came to him was the fact that people would pass out when an individual touched separate people. The main side effect was people swapping minds… This came as a surprise to Ahmad. He wondered if the resulting explosion combined with the confusion with Pyromelter and Coldfusion could have been connected to the altercations. He was doing a good amount of research when the activity around the campus started to buzz.
SVCA agents were going around each of the buildings. They were not stating their business for the reasons. With all the commotion going on he heard a few things from coworkers. The news had spread fast when he got a text from a colleague. It told there had been a robbery at the lab that was under SVCA control.
The main culprit had been apprehended on site. A maintenance worker had been caught stealing the obsidian chunk. The maintenance worker had apparently knocked out the power and tried to hide the chunk. There was just one problem. The chunk of obsidian that was stolen had a piece missing from it. With no leads or clues, agents had to go everywhere. People were questioned to no avail.
Ahmad went on his own to figure things out. He heard that Pyromelter had shown up to look around at the same time as the robbery. The SVCA dismissed Pyromelter for doing anything wrong. The agents assumed there was another culprit in the mix. Ahmad had second guesses on that after reading and doing some research. He couldn't prove Pyromelter had done it. His hunch was trying to figure out why. If Pyromelter had committed the crime. It then made him think back to what he had read. Ahmad thought. Could Pyromelter and Coldfusion have swapped minds?
He went back to his lab. “I wonder what I can find in here more about Obsidian peaces.” He thought. I’ve been through the data too many times. Admad had the piece of black obsidian sitting on his desk that he throw earlier. He picked up trying to figure out more.
There had been a rumor before his parents died that they left an encrypted code that held more work of theirs in a hidden room in the facility. He had no idea if it was true. He spent years digging around with no success. He sighed and set the black obsidian next to the computer terminal. What happened next made him jump in surprise.
The black obsidian reacted opening the computer terminal to an encrypted menu. It read on the screen. “Enter the security key.” Admad out of excitement started to think of any old passwords or phrases his parents could have used but nothing came to light. After many failed attempts he was locked out of the terminal. He would have to wait a week before being able to go at it again. He just sighed and went back to doing other things.
