Chapter 8

Upon getting outside Paradise Ranch. I told Suzi that we couldn’t use my car if we were picking up Henry as mine is a two-seater, this turned out to be a major problem as Suzi didn’t know how to drive.

Suzi pointed at a four-door electric car. “What about that electric car?”

I took a closer look at the car.

It looked like a Delamain, commonly known for its high-class services, never had one as I felt more comfortable in my Quadra

“Unless your job gave you a shit load of money as a goodbye present, I see no way you could afford a Delamain.”

Suzi gave a cheeky grin. She doesn’t have the money, but I do know what she is planning.

“Hear me out, Max. I can hack into the Delamain’s database and register you as a member of the Excelsior package and that the car over there is expecting you.”

“…Fine, it's not like we have any other option.”

Suzi pulled out her laptop and began working on hacking into the Delamain.

To be honest, as much as I would like Suzi to pursue a different line of work I gotta admit she does have talent.

Being able to hack into a delamain and give me the Excelsior package is cool, I’ll admit it’s not legal but what would I know? I worked for the Almano crime family so I'm not a stranger to doing things that are “not legal”.

We got into the Delamain and were instantly greeted by an AI appearing on a screen.

“Welcome on board this Delamain service. With Delamain, you leave your problems at the door. Before we begin our journey. I must verify the identities of all customers. Please proceed to use the retina scanner located below the monitor...

I did what Delamain instructed and looked at the scanner.

“Excelsior package detected.”

“Holy shit it worked!” I remarked

“I see no reason for the use of expletives!”

I was shocked by Delamain’s quick response. “Oh. Apologies Del.”

“Apology accepted. Where is the destination, you would like to go?”

I gave the Delamain the location of Henry’s house.

“Splendid we’ll arrive at your location shortly, please enjoy the ride.”

The car’s engine started and began driving.

I'll admit as much as I love my Quadra speeding through the streets of Night City there’s something oddly relaxing sitting in a self-driving car and just looking at Night City.

I turned to face Suzi. “So, what else does the Excelsior package come with?”

The Delamain appeared on the monitor again and began listing all the benefits that the Excelsior package comes with.

Combat mode, which would be very useful in a tight situation, and health care coverage should the worst happen, which is pretty dark when the full details are revealed.

Silence fell shortly after the news of Delamain's health coverage.

I decided to give Henry a text telling him to get outside.

Max

“Get outside I'll be at your place shortly.”

Henry

“Okay... what’s the reason why?”

Max

“Suzi has something for us.”

Henry

“Suzi? Haven't seen her in years. Okay, I'll get ready and meet you outside.”

Henry agreed to meet up with us and while on the trip I decided to take a little nap as I was still tired. I told Suzi to wake me up when we arrived at Henry’s.

I don’t know how much sleep I got but I felt a shove on my right that caused me to wake up. Looking around I gathered my bearings and noticed that we were outside of Henry’s house with Henry standing outside waiting for us, I got out of the Delamain and signaled Henry over towards the car.

“Where the hell did you find the money to afford a Delamain?” Henry asked, shocked.

“Let’s just say an old friend of ours had a bit of a helping hand with obtaining the car.”

This was the perfect moment for Suzi to appear from the car. “Hey, Henry it’s been a while. I can see you still have that awful haircut.”

Henry felt his hair. “What’s wrong with this hair? I had it cut a week ago. If anyone has an awful haircut it’s Max with that stupid mullet.” Henry said.

“Never known you to be the jealous type, it's not my fault that I have a good head of hair,” I said in a cocky manner.

Before Henry could say anything, Suzi interrupted him.

“As much as I would like to keep making fun of Henry’s hair. I do need your guy’s help with something so if your done bickering about whose hair is better can we get back to the task at hand?”

Suzi was right. As much as I do enjoy making fun of Henry with his hair, we did have a job to do. We got back into the Delamain and entered the location where Suzi originally wanted to go.

While on the drive to the place Suzi gave Henry a recap on what she had already told me about how the place we are going to could be related to a cyberpsycho and how I agreed to help her.

Henry’s brain started to click.

“You don’t suppose that this could be linked with Redeye?” Henry asked curiously.

I shrugged my shoulders. “Only one way to find out.”
