We stopped at a gas station to fill up on fuel and let Henry use the toilet. While waiting for the tank to fill up, I noticed a woman standing alone as if she were waiting for someone.
I decided to approach her, as she looked like she needed help.
"Excuse me, Miss, are you waiting for someone?" I asked.
"Yes. My husband went to fill the car up. He’s currently in the restroom, and once he’s finished, we will be heading to a place called Pacifica. Do you know where it is?"
"I know that it's south of Heywood, but be careful; I hear it's a constant warzone... May I ask why you are heading to Pacifica?"
Before she could respond, I felt a gun barrel on my back and realized that these were the couple who were at the bar and trying to sell the Redeye.
"I thought I told you to keep that fucking mouth of yours shut, woman." The husband said angrily before slapping her on the head, which pissed me off.
She did what she was told and headed towards the car, leaving me with her psychopathic abusive husband.
"Look, mate. I can make your life a whole lot easier; all I need is the briefcase." I said, keeping my back to him.
"Fuck off punk!” This is what is going to happen. I am going to get in my car and drive away, and you will forget whatever that bitch told you about our plans. Is that clear?"
"Crystal," I said.
"Good…Good." The husband proceeded to hit me on the back of the head with his gun, knocking me out.
What felt like hours passed. I woke up and noticed Henry standing over me, checking to make sure that I was alive.
"Max…Max… Hey...wake up."
Regaining consciousness from the attack the husband gave. "Jesus, my head... what happened?"
"Well, there is good and bad news. The bad news is you got knocked out by the guy who we need to get, and the good news is they have gained the attention of the police, which thinking about it isn't good news. We better catch them before the police get them."
Henry offered his hand and helped me up on my feet. Getting back in my car, we made our way to the couple's last recorded location, which was a highway where the police spotted them. Catching up to the police chase, I pulled into the opposite lane on the road to try and get to the side of the couple's car.

Going way over the speed limit, I managed to catch up to the car and spot the wife, who noticed me trying to get the couple to stop the vehicle as they were rapidly approaching a police blockade. With no hope of a happy ending, the wife pulls out a gun hidden in the car’s glove compartment and gives one last look at me as if to say “I'm sorry” before firing the gun twice, killing her husband before turning the gun to herself and firing the second shot, killing her.
I couldn't believe what I had just seen. Several thoughts came into my mind, but I didn't have any time to process the situation as Henry slammed on the brakes so we wouldn't crash.
"Max… Max, hurry up; we need to get the briefcase. Come on!"
As we get out of the car, we’re instantly met by two of Night City's detectives. Detective Richard Phillips and Detective Oliver Park are there, like the Crockett and Tubbs of Night City.
"Well... well, what are the two of you doing here? You see, originally, we were going to arrest this couple for speeding. But now that you two are here, it means that there's a lot more going on. Why don’t you be a good person and tell us what's going on here?"
I sure as hell wasn't going to tell them that they had the redeye. Besides, they didn't have any evidence to arrest us, but you never know with these two. Richard can find a way to get someone arrested, and somehow Oliver can find proof that gets them sent to prison.
"Let them go, Richard; we have what we need." Said Oliver, holding the briefcase containing the drug.
"Ha. Go on, get out of here. Oh, by the way, thank you for doing the hard work for us.
We got back in my car, and Henry told me that I would need to let Sam know what happened to the gig, to which I told Henry that Sam could go fuck himself.
I dropped Henry off back at his place in Heywood.
"You want to come in for a while and have a drink?" Henry asked.
"No… Thanks for the offer though." To be honest, the only thing I wanted to do was head back home and go to sleep for the next few days.
I arrived back at my apartment and sat by the window, listening to the rain hitting the window as a way for me to clear my mind. It's weird as I'm used to seeing death hell; it's something I gave to others even back when I was working for the Almano crime family, where I saw some awful things, but seeing someone kill someone and then take their own life hits hard, especially that fact that they didn't have a healthy relationship.
Henry calls Max
Henry: "Hey, Max, Are you doing okay?"
Max: "Yeah, just looking out of the window. How about you?"
Henry: "Good, I tried that new chicken place that opened up for dinner. It's really good; I would recommend it if you are in the mood for chicken."
Max: "Sounds good; I haven't eaten yet. I'll probably order a burger, then call it a night."
Henry: "Can't beat a good burger; isn't there that burger place in Japantown that puts pineapple on the burger?"
Max: "Yeah, I haven't tried it yet; people say you don't need to put pineapple on a burger. But some say it's good; I don't know who might get it. Anyway, I'm going to get something to eat; talk to you later."
Henry: "Take care, man. Oh, one last thing, what are we doing about The Mox?"
Max: "I'll talk to them tomorrow and see what work they have for us."
