Chapter 37

Chapter 37

We descended a narrow, dimly lit staircase, the musty smell of dampness and decay growing stronger with each step. As we reached the bottom, we turned left, following the narrow passage until we arrived at the entrance to the sewage pipe. The metal gate that covered the opening was barely visible under the layers of grime and rust that had accumulated over time.

I called out to Henry, asking for his help in lifting the heavy gate. Together, we managed to pry it open, revealing the dark, murky depths of the sewage system.

Alejandro and Rita wasted no time and swiftly climbed inside, anchoring themselves to hold the gate open for us. With their assistance, Henry and I maneuvered our way into the claustrophobic space, feeling the chill of the damp walls and the sound of rushing water echoing all around us.

As we all gathered inside the narrow passageway, I quickly relayed the message to Suzi, letting her know that we had successfully entered the sewers and were beginning our exploration.

“Oh god, this place stinks,” Alejandro said while covering his nose.

“What did you expect? It’s a sewer; it's going to smell like shit.”

The sewer emitted a putrid odor, assaulting our senses as we gazed upon discarded food bobbing in the murky water. I shuddered at the thought of what else might be lurking in the depths.

"Okay, take a left, then keep going straight until the second right," Suzi instructed on the holo.

Following Suzi's directions, we veered left, soon catching the distant murmur of voices. Drawing closer, we eavesdropped on a conversation between members of the Crimson Blades.

"Hey! Do you think The Mox will come after us?"

"Pfft, no way! They're preoccupied with the Tyger Claws. Relax, man."

"Whatever, I need to take a leak."

I asked everyone to stay back as I wanted to stealth kill this guy. I unbuttoned my knife pouch and angled myself in a good position to throw. I took a deep breath and threw the knife, hitting the Crimson Blade in the head, causing him to fall face-first into the sewage water.

After retrieving my knife, I signaled Henry and the rest to come over. Finally, the four of us got out of the sewage water and were one step closer to reaching the Crimson Blades hideout. Opening a nearby door, I asked everyone to prepare themselves as things were about to get bloody.

A case of content theft: this narrative is not rightfully on Amazon; if you spot it, report the violation.

Henry made sure his submachine gun was locked and loaded, Alejandro checked how many rounds he had in his revolver, and Rita wiped off any muck that was on her baseball bat while I locked and loaded Eve and Ivy.

There was one Crimson Blade who was occupied with the television to notice Rita sneaking up behind them and smashing their heads in with the baseball bat. The sound of the bat smashing against the skull of the Crimson's Blade was loud.

“I did know the skull could make that noise,” I said, still stunned by the sound the baseball bat made.

We opened a door that led into a hallway, and as we walked through the hallway, Henry spotted a camera with a pointy end at the bottom. He looked at it for a few seconds before his eyes widened.

“Shit! It’s a turtle! Get in cover!”

Before we knew it, we ran back into the room and took cover as the sentry opened fire. With the activation of the sentry, it meant we had given away our position, and it wasn’t long before Crimson Blades came rushing towards us.

The first wave ran past the sentry, and we waited for the right moment to peek out from cover and shoot the Crimson Blades. When the right moment arrived, Henry and I peeked out of cover and opened fire on the fire wave, tearing them to shreds.

"Suzi, there is a fucking sentry! Can you do something about it?”

“Cool your jets, Carver. Any second now... And there! Try walking past the sentry now.”

I walked up to the sentry, and nothing was happening, but it was still online.

“I take it you’ve hacked into it.”

“Perhaps. Now get a move on; they already know you're here!”

Not wasting any time, we followed the hallway into a main room with sofas and a mini bar in the corner before getting shot at by Crimson Blades. We waited for the Crimson Blades to reload before they peaked our heads out and returned fire. One of the Crimson Blades tried to catch us off guard and threw a flashbang towards us.

In the heat of the moment, I grabbed the flashbang and threw it back at the Crimson Blades. The flashbang exploded while in the air; the effect of the flashbang caused me to rub my eyes while the Crimson Blades closed their eyes and stopped firing.

This gave Henry and Alejandro the perfect opportunity to return fire. Henry started unloading all of the bullets in his current clip while Alejandro picked off the ones that Henry missed with a perfectly placed headshot.

But the fight wasn't over as we were jumped by some Crimson Blades who were carrying machetes and switchblades. One even had a crowbar with them.

We had no choice but to fight hand in hand. One Crimson Blade swung his blade carelessly in their attempt to get a hit, but this cost him dearly, as I wanted for the perfect moment to go behind them, take out my knife, and stab them in the back before moving on to another.

Rita had no issue with the Crimson Blades; as she smashed their heads in with her bat, Henry and Alejandro managed to disarm their attackers before killing them. Thinking that the fight was done, we were about to begin the search for the missing girls before I heard Henry scream.

A Crimson Blade, who we presumed to be dead, was still alive and managed to get a lucky stab in Henry’s left shoulder.

“Argh! You mother fucker!” Henry yelled before kicking the Crimson Blade’s face before taking a nearby blade and impaling it into the Crimson Blade’s chest, killing him.
