Chapter 4 - I spy with my little eye a flying Immortal

The giant wall drew closer and closer until the clouds brushed past Fuyos face as he dove through them. Down below he could see little black dots hurrying back and forth likes ants. As he drew closer he realized that the little black dots were actually people flying through the air. They were going head to head in a fierce clash of weapons and abilities.

How can they fly?

It seemed like a silly question for a wandering spirit to ask but Fuyo was still new to this weird world. There was no such thing as magic on the lonely planet.

"Will I reborn as one of these flying Immortals?" A large smile spread across his face. "Will I become a flying Immortal like in the legends?"

He smiled as he thought about his future prospects.

"Which one shall I choose?"

He tried to will his spirit towards the flying Immortal in the middle. He seemed to be the strongest; none of the other Immortals would approach him like they were afraid.

Even though they were fighting in a fierce battle they remained vigilant of his presence. But he seemed to only be spectating so the fighting continued on as usual. This person had the airs of a King.

Fuyo used 100% of his will to move his spirit to the left.

Shhhueeeee... His spirit streamed through the air.

He forcefully changed his trajectory and moved in the direction of the powerful Immortal. Perfect! He held a clear path straight towards him.

"Yes!" He exclaimed in his head with a heart full of excitement.

But right before they were about to collide the Flying Immortal moved forward and attacked the group of cultivators that were currently in a life and death battle. They had finally let their guard down and were ripe for the picking.

"No!" Yelled Fuyo.

"Move back you bastard. Give me your body!" His tongue flicked out like a vicious snake. But no matter how much he hissed and cursed he wasn't strong enough to stop the force pushing him towards the ground.

Closer and closer, inch by inch he drew near. In his final moments everything became a blur as he collided with the solid ground.

Boom!

His vision went blank, he didn't know what was going on but he felt the sensation of the seed nourishing his soul. The seed broke apart and was absorbed by his soul disappearing into nothingness. His soul bulged and grew many times stronger than before, but the sudden increase in power strained his mind and forced him into unconsciousness. When he came to his senses he could feel pain all over his body.

"Urgh, it hurts.''

"Wait, it hurts? I have a body again!" He exclaimed excitedly.

"Have I successfully transmigrated? Yes, I am an Immortal! No, I definitely missed him. Maybe I got another Immortal? Yes, that must be it." His thoughts raced around his head as he looked at his surroundings. He tried to get up and move but he fell flat on his face.

"What's going on here? Why do I feel so wonky?"

He picked his head up off the floor and looked down at his hands. He was awestruck.

"What is this!"

"How can this be?"

His palms had no fingers; they were short and stubby like stools. His body was covered in cuts and bruises. He felt wobbly and weird but he was quickly distracted by the intense hunger he felt in his stomach. He looked above and saw how giant the trees were. He waddled over to a nearby puddle and looked at his reflection. What he saw shocked him to the core.

Caterpillar?

He had transmigrated into a caterpillar. How ridiculous!

"No, no, no, no, no. How can this happen? Was I not meant to be someone great? How could I have been made a puny bug!" He yelled and howled at the sky but it was useless. He felt light headed and his stomach grumbled loudly. His skin was black and white with stripes all over.

He noticed there were cuts and dried blue blood all over him. Something must have happened to the previous owner of this body. Did the previous host die?

"Well, who knows? Maybe I can become Bug King, raise a bug army and rule the bug Kingdom. Yeah, that's a good plan." He sighed as he consoled himself.

"Who am I kidding? What can a bug do? I'm going to get squashed. Argh!"

"This can't be happening, this can't be happening! It must be a bad dream. Yeah, that's it. I must be dreaming. A genius such as myself becoming a bug? Ha! What a funny joke. There's just no way." He would slap himself over and over again in order to wake himself up, but his arms just didn't have that sort of reach. This world was simply too vivid and clear. There was no way it was a dream.

"The heavens sure know how to joke."

He had to eat a slice of humble pie; he was no longer the world shaking genius he once was. He really was just a bug and not even a cool bug. He had no powerful jaws, poison, spider webs, special abilities or super strength, he was as normal as normal could get. He sighed as he thought about it some more. It's not the first time he's been a bug. When he was a kid the wolves treated him like a bug that they could crush at anytime, he thought he had escaped that fate once he gained strength but compared to the Kishin he wasn't even a speck of dust. Compared to ultimate power that could look down upon all creation he was nothing, nothing but a bug. Except this time it was more literal.

His stomach rumbled again, followed by an intense stabbing pain in his abdomen.

"Okay, okay. I'm over it. There's no point in feeding myself pretty little lies to satisfy my over inflated ego. I must adjust and adapt to the situation." He nodded and then went on his way to find food.

This is what made him such a talented child. He could easily adapt and identify his own flaws. He knew he wasn't perfect and this was one of his greatest strengths. He had gotten cocky by being in a place of power for too long. This experience knocked him down a peg.

"First things first, find food. What do caterpillars eat anyway? Grass, dirt, trees?'' He found a tall patch of grass. It was like a big tree from his perspective because he was so small. He wiggled to the root and took a bite.

Chomp!

He chewed ferociously, it tasted delicious. He used to eat grass porridge when he was poor, so he knew it didn't taste bad, but it was never this delicious. He devoured the entire crop of grass in 3 hours and then decided to wiggle on ahead. He was still hungry even after eating 10 times his own body weight. He was on a mission to find more delicious food. He didn't know where the food was going but he liked the feeling of eating delicious food and never getting full. He found a small tree that had pink flowers growing along its branches. He licked his lips "That looks good. I bet it taste delicious."

He started climbing the tree and it was extremely comfortable. It was surreal, he was clearly climbing vertically yet it felt as natural as walking on flat ground. It was like the laws of gravity never applied to him.

He was like spiderman, climbing up the wall with ease. It was still quite a distance to the flowers though.

Step by step he made his way up. After three hours he reached the lowest branch and waddled towards the closest flower. He took a bite.

Crunch crunch crunch

"Delicious! OMG!" nom nom nom.

He was akin to a lion feasting upon its prey. Hunger has a way of heightening people's emotions, delicious food has a way of inducing happiness and Fuyo was completely absorbed in this feeling of euphoria.

Crunch crunch crunch, crunch crunch crunch.

From one plant to another, he devoured them nonstop until finally he had his fill.

"I must have eaten at least 10 times my body weight. How is this possible?'' He decided to push these thoughts to the back of his head as soon as they appeared. He had no one to answer the question and it didn't seem like a problem at the moment.

Crunch crunch crunch

"Huh. What's that sound?" Fuyo grew alert. He almost let his guard down, the euphoria he felt made him tired and he relaxed his senses for a slight second. He would've never let himself be so careless before. He is a bug and bugs have an endless amount of predators. Luckily the crunching sounds brought him back to reality.

Crunch crunch crunch

He climbed over a branch that had grown and grafted itself onto another tree. When he crossed over he saw in the distance another 3 caterpillars eating around a flower while having a chat. He decided to walk over and introduce himself.

"Hahaha. Did you see that fool? He's probably dead by now. Can you believe he really jumped? He just flopped off and went splat." They all laughed as they joked about someone dying.

"What are they talking about I wonder? Well it's none of my business but I am interested in finding out a bit more about caterpillars. I should ask them a few questions."

They didn't see him approaching because they were too busy laughing and eating.

"Hey there, I'm Fuyo." He smiled at them.

Gasp, they were shocked and one of them nearly fell over.

"It's Fuyo, he survived the fall!"

This trio of caterpillars were often referred to as the three legendary bullies. They were famous among the caterpillars for tricking and bullying others. One had black skin with white spots, his name was Pusshu and he was at least 3 times the size of Fuyo. The second caterpillar was white with black spots and his name was Panchi. He was about 1.5 times bigger than Fuyo but at least twice as long. If he was any longer people might mistake him for a centipede. The last of the three was a little girl, she was half the size of Fuyo and the undisputed leader of their tripartite. Her name was Kikku and she had a fiery personality. She was a beautiful pink caterpillar with white stripes.

Of course Fuyo had no idea what constituted a pretty caterpillar so he was immune to the charms that many others had fallen to. Fuyo strained his memory but he couldn't seem to recall anything. Judging by their body language and reactions he quickly deduced that they must have had a roll in killing the previous occupant of his body. That made them dangerous and a threat, he had to stay vigilant.

"How did you survive? Well, I guess it doesn't matter. I can't believe you actually tried to kill yourself. You are so pathetic, hahaha." Kikku scoffed as she etched closer to him.

"You know what? Panchi, Pusshu, why don't we assist Fuyo here in learning how to fly. Let's punch, kick and push him to the ground. You might have survived the first time but you can't be so lucky the second time around."

They snickered viciously and started walking towards him.

The scene of them surrounding him seemed to spark a reaction in his brain. A stream of images suddenly flashed in his head. He saw himself standing at the end of a branch as the three bullies surrounded him and forced him to the edge. "Fuyo, come here so we can play with you." This scene had repeated itself many times over the last few weeks. He was sick and tired of it.

In the end he decided to jump and aim for a puddle below, this was his ingenious escape plan. But fate had other plans as the winds of change blew him off course and he landed on a group of jagged rocks.

The images stopped flashing and Fuyo finally understood. "That's strange, we share the same name. In my past life I was Fuyo and in this one too. Well stranger things have happened I guess."

But now's not the time for those sorts of thoughts. He didn't hesitate to turn tail and run. He made use of the Gurren agility technique Crimson Flash. He then quickly made his way up the tree.

Crimson Flash was only the first in the series of Gurren martial arts. But he felt himself burning hundreds of calories every second he used it. It was too taxing on his current body. Usually he would have no trouble maintaining Crimson Flash but this time he was struggling, it felt like he was carrying hundreds of elephants on his back. He wobbled all over the place, he found it extremely strenuous to apply Crimson flash to all 16 of his limbs. And there was an unknown pressure weighing down on his body that made it hard to breathe.

Still, the martial art showed its power and assisted him greatly. He made his way up the bark, crossed to another tree and made off into the distance. The 3 bullies couldn't catch up and eventually gave up the chase.

"Dammit, how did that little shit get so fast?" The trio snickered and then walked away with a look of dejection on their faces.
