Chapter 2: A new world

[Leviathan’s Pov]

After having a little mental breakdown and laughing maniacally for a little while, I decided to try out my monstrous form. I willed myself to change, and it happened.

My entire body grew, enlarging tremendously and I got higher and higher. My legs disappeared and in their place fins appeared. I could still breathe air, which was good.

I was at least 80 or so meters in length and 6 meters wide, my body resembled that of a snake, but my head reminded me of a dragon more then a snake. I had two arms, with claw-like hands at the end. They each were 10 meter long from shoulder to finger, and the claws looked extremely sharp.

I casually stomped on a tree with my hand and the tree broke without any effort. I must weight at least 100 tons or something considering my size…

I tried my form for a little longer, coiling around myself and looking over my ocean-blue scales. I could open my mouth wide enough to probably a ship whole, so I truly do resemble the Leviathan of the bible… Too bad there’s no god here to kill me…

Satisfied with myself, I dismiss my monster form and return to my human form. After all, the monster form is a little bit too… monstrous to be used everyday. I probably won’t really need a ship to travel the seas, but I don’t want to be hunted down just because of how I look. Yet.

For as… absurd as it sounds, I think that my monster form is even more majestic and beautiful then my human appearance. It might just be me or it might not since there’s nobody to give me their opinion on the subject, but it’s not like I need other people’s opinions on what I believe.

Sighing to myself, I look at the deeper parts of the island. I couldn’t see an end to it even as I looked in monster form, so I assume that it’s not a small island at all. I begin to walk deeper inland.

I began to run, and I felt my feet explode from the ground in a blur of speed. My eyes could fully make out every detail of an object, I could hear everything around me perfectly and I could smell even the smallest detail of any object.

I was pretty impressed. Isn’t this a bit too much for a single Devil Fruit? I understand they’re powerful, but I didn’t expect this much. I’m not going to complain though, as even the littlest advantage can be crucial in my survival.

I spent the next three hours exploring everywhere, trying to memorize the layout of the island. It was then that I finally found my first monster. It was a wolf-like animal, but with 6 legs, a spider-like head and a spiked tail. It looked quite ugly, but I’m not one to judge.

It smelled the air and turned to look at me and growled. It then charged at me. I panicked a bit since it was my first battle, however adrenaline and excitement soon washed the panic away and I instinctively transformed my arms, giving them an ocean-like blue. I then blocked the wolf’s bite with my now enhanced arms, and then stabbed my now claw-like hands into the wolf’s head.

It cried out in pain, but I ignored it and kept stabbing it. A spiked tail came forward, trying to stab my heart. I dodged it by doing a backflip, then ran forward and slid down under the monster whilst stabbing my claws upwards into the monster’s belly. I found a hard something, and immediately took it out.

I had done all of this instinctively, so when I realized what I had done I was really pleased with myself. The spider-wolf stumbled down, dead. I looked at the weird stone in my hand. It was a light blue color and it looked quite pretty.

“Congratulations on your first kill, Leviathan. Eat that stone to gain Soul Essence to transfer over to us.” I heard the voice say, and did as it said. The stone that went down my throat felt somewhat… refreshing. It was like drinking a solid cola, and it tasted really good.

“Since you’re not chinese, we will use english-like ranking systems, but you will have to learn chinese vocabulary since this world will resemble those you find in xinxia novels.” My eyes shot wide and I began panicking horribly. The reason? Those chinese idiots all have names like ‘Shen’ ‘Mao’ Yang’ ‘Fang’ and I always got confused when I’d read those novels. Please tell me the names will be something… normal? Please, I’ll do anything!

If you stumble upon this tale on Amazon, it's taken without the author's consent. Report it.

Crying inside, I ate the rest of the meat. It wasn’t too bad, but it would have been better if it was cooked. I didn’t even feel close to full though. I guess being a titanic snake monster does require titanic amounts of food.

I silently thought ‘Open List’ and checked how much essence I had. It was an astonishing 20! Yeah… Not a lot… Considering a devil fruit now ranged from 10.000 to 50.000 it was… somewhat hopeless…

The monster was weak, so I hope that if I maybe kill stronger ones then I’ll get stronger faster? Also, can I wield double devil fruits? I checked the ‘Body Upgrades’ tab and looked over the options. It had things like increased regeneration, extra strength, stamina, agility, senses and other basic upgrades. I silently thought ‘Advanced’ and out came various other things, including what I really wanted.

I looked over various things, and picked out some that I really liked, but couldn’t buy yet. Those were ‘Increased Cultivation Rate’, ‘Double-fruit Wielding’, ‘Body Modification’. Whilst the first two might have been obvious, Body Modification could add extra body parts, which would be… quite cool and useful. I’d love to gain a set of angel or vampire wings. After all, it’s every… Man’s? Woman’s?… dream to fly… right?… Maybe that could wait…

I decided that I had to spend more time training here. I would master both my human and monster forms, and when the time comes, I’ll this place and go either become a bounty hunter or a pirate, or maybe both? Why would I do that? Well, I definitely don’t want to work for ‘Justice’ and I need to kill people, or these guys will get angry, and I probably won’t forgive myself for not using this chance as an excuse to murder millions over millions of people… Hehehe…

With such thoughts, I charged into the deeper parts of the island, carving out a bloody path for myself and establishing myself as the apex on the island.

{Time-skip of 2 years}

I looked back at the island I had begun calling home. I made a lot of memories here. But, I knew I had to move forward in this world, and carve myself a place to truly call home. I will reach higher heights, I refuse to stay holed up in this island full of weaklings.

It took me a year to fully memorize the layout of the island, and by that time I had already began to kill and devour every single monster I could find. Soon enough, monsters would flee on my sight, and I’d have to chase them or hunt them as they teamed up with each other to fight me. I would sometimes be ambushed as I chased prey, and often would narrowly escape from sure death. Luckily for me, even if my eye was carved out or a limb torn from my body, give it a day or two and it would eventually regrow and not a scar would remain. It was really nice to know that I didn’t have to worry about lasting injuries.

I had mastered a style that fully utilized my tyrannical strength, which I named ‘Hydra Style’ since I would fully utilize each one of my limbs like multiple heads, each attacking independently from each other and overwhelming my opponents with the sheer number and strength of my attacks. In my monster form, I could either swallow my opponents and crush them with my teeth, constrict them with my serpentine body, smash them into pieces using my giant arms as hammers or use my snake-like tail to whip hard enough to smash trees.

I had also saved up a ton of soul essence. I decided not to spend them and keep saving them, waiting to find something that could perfectly match my style. I did buy some things in the ‘Knowledge’ sections, but those were extremely cheap, like camping skills, cooking skills, navigation…

I now had over 100.000 points saved up from constantly mass-murdering thousands over thousands of monsters. If monsters could feel emotions, which I’m pretty sure they do, they would literally be attacked by fear the moment they heard of me. I mean, I don’t think there’s not a single monster in this island who isn’t a lucky survivor of my hunts.

Finally deeming the time right, I think ‘Open List’ and went straight into ‘Body Upgrades’. I then bought ‘Dual-fruit Wielding’ and ‘Increased Cultivation Rate’, the latter costed little, but needed to be bought multiple times. I ended up spending 20.000 on ‘Dual-fruit Wielding’ and another 20.000 on the cultivation rate. It did say at the end ‘Cultivation rate: Highest-tier genius’ but I ignored it, as it just sounded… dumb. Everybody is a genius in their own ways after all.

I then went into ‘Devil Fruits’ and looked over my possibilities. I definitely would not get any fire/heat related fruits, as I have a water-based fruit already, and they probably wouldn’t go so well together. I scroll around and pick out three options that sounded like the most plausible.

First was the Ice fruit, which might work well in my human form, and might even help in my monster form. The second option was the Lightning fruit, which would work extremely well in the water, as you should know, electricity passes quite nicely through water. My only complain with this one is that it costs 50.000 soul essence, which is simply too much. My last option is the Venom Fruit, which would work extremely well in my monster form and human form alike, and it only costs 15.000 soul essence.

I decide to buy the Venom-Fruit and to buy the Lightning-one at a later date. I buy it and it appears in my hand. I put it away for now and go back into the research. I go into the ‘Object’ tab and first buy a small boat, which only costs 200 soul essence. I then buy a set of clothes, as, you know, they kinda ripped the first time I transformed… I bought female clothing since that’s what I look like, and put them on. I then look at the rather crappy boat, which looked more like a small raft with some sails on it. I go on it and push myself away from the island, heading towards the unknown. Not. I bought a map and the knowledge of navigation, so I know exactly where I’m going.

Shitty cultivation world, here I come...
