57: Is He a Good Man or a Complete Scoundrel?

The night was chill.

In the sky, magical energies erupted with wild intensity as Elvynna and the golden corpse continued their fierce battle. Meanwhile, the conflict in the royal garden had come to an end.

“Whoosh!”

With a sharp sound slicing through the air, a brilliant flash of magic darted by like lightning. Scarlett’s beautiful head fell with a thud into the nearby pool, sending up a spray of bloodied water.

“Darling, he really did it!”

Elvynna's heart soared at the sight. When she had brought Eirik along, she had doubted his usefulness, but now it was clear: her husband had delivered the crucial blow.

“How dare you!”

The golden corpse roared in fury, sensing the shift beneath him. There were more golden corpses in Elaresar, and others had intended to confront Elvynna, but he was the one who stepped forward. He had thought little of this young woman—after all, her magical prowess barely reached the Grandmaster level. But as the battle unfolded, he realized her extensive combat experience.

The vast magical power within her was utilized to perfection, maximizing her strength and pushing her combat abilities far beyond normal limits. Even he, a genuine Grandmaster, felt a twinge of envy at her finesse in wielding magic.

And then there was that boy she brought—suddenly, he had grown stronger and displayed astonishing talent! Before he could fully comprehend, He dispatched Princess Scarlett of Crimson Hollow with alarming swiftness.

That woman had to die, but that boy deserved it even more! They had dared to invade Elaresar and kill a member of the royal family, slapping the monarchy in the face!

“You have some nerve!”

“Prepare to die!”

In an instant, deep within the palace, several aged voices boomed like thunder, shaking the entire city and causing its millions of inhabitants to clutch their heads in pain.

At the same moment, enormous golden hands stretched out from the palace, reaching for Elvynna and Eirik!

At that moment, Elvynna was pulling Eirik, transforming into a vibrant arc of magic as they dashed away.

Suddenly, the world dimmed.

Looking up, Eirik and Elvynna noticed that the sun, moon, and stars had vanished, replaced by a massive dark-gold hand looming above them!

It was truly a sky-blocking sight—monstrous in scale!

The hand sent waves of dread through countless souls. Even though the attack wasn't aimed directly at them, many people in the city trembled in fear, collapsing in panic, unable to look away.

Elvynna felt an overwhelming weight pressing down on her, every part of her body in agony. Yet even so, she mustered all her strength to protect her husband in her arms.

“Break!”

Elvynna gritted her teeth and shouted. As her voice fell, blood trickled from her mouth, ears, and eyes.

But simultaneously, an incredibly radiant light erupted from her body.

In that instant, she moved like lightning, so fast that even detection spells could not track her!

Bang!

With a resounding thud, the enormous golden hand was pierced directly by Elvynna, leaving a bloody hole in its wake!

“Hmm?!”

Deep within the palace, a voice of frustration and anger echoed.

Yet the terrifying golden light and pressure that had terrified the city vanished without a trace.

The world returned to a state of eerie calm.

People exchanged bewildered glances, feeling as though they had awoken from a dream.

What just happened?!

A man and a woman had suddenly invaded the capital, apparently doing something to provoke the royal family at Princess Scarlett of Crimson Hollow's residence. And yet, they had left unscathed!

Especially the woman, standing elegantly with her long hair flowing, enveloped in a radiant aura of magic, had made a lasting impression on many!

“I’m more curious about who that man is!”

“That man seems to be only a Practitioner-level mage, yet he’s protected by a Grandmaster-level woman like a treasured gem. Truly my idol!”

“No… not necessarily. What if he’s her relative?!”

“Impossible! Didn’t you see the way she looked at him? That kind of love is unmistakable. It’s so intriguing—what kind of extraordinary man could capture the heart of a Grandmaster-level powerhouse?”

The city of Elaresar buzzed with fervent discussion!

When more information emerged revealing that the man was Eirik, the buzz turned to a frenzy!

“Eirik… why does that name sound so familiar?!”

“Of course it’s familiar! Just recently, he refused an esteemed the alchemist’s offer, which stirred up quite a sensation in the capital!”

“Wait, what? This kid has quite the background! Not only did he turn down the alchemist, but a Grandmaster is smitten with him?!”

“Maybe it’s because he has a Grandmaster by his side that he dared to refuse the alchemist!”

Meanwhile, deep within the palace, a tall, imposing middle-aged man with an air of authority walked into a hidden underground chamber, his expression grim.

Soon, thunderous roars echoed from the chamber.

“That useless fool has been taking the Regal Bone of the Ancients for years and still has such little power. It’s no wonder she got killed!”

“You should investigate how your useless daughter offended such a promising young Grandmaster-level powerhouse!”

Elvynna’s displayed potential during the earlier battle had reached a level that instilled profound fear in those from the royal family!

Though the royal family had many golden corpses, these were created by a special magic array and would lose power once they left the capital. They were not invincible.

“We finally escaped!”

Far outside the capital, Eirik and Elvynna sat together, panting heavily.

“Successfully killing Princess Scarlett in Elaresar City is a monumental event. This will surely boost our scores significantly, and who knows, maybe there will be additional rewards…” Eirik think, and he felt satisfied with his performance and Elvynna's.

As she tended to her wounds, Elvynna began to scrutinize Eirik in silence.

“Darling, during the battle, you showcased the Eye of Divine Insight. Why have you never used it before?” Elvynna asked, her tone serious.

“Wife, don’t you know? The Eye of Divine Insight can be innate or acquired. Some are born with it, while others develop it through training. Perhaps I possess a thin bloodline of the Eye of Divine Insight, which activated in the heat of the moment,” Eirik replied, looking innocently at her.

“That explanation… does make sense.”

Whether one possessed the Eye of Divine Insight was determined by bloodline. Those with a strong bloodline naturally had it. However, those with a weaker bloodline needed various stimuli and training to activate it. The weaker the bloodline, the harder it was to awaken.

Some might activate it only to lose it again later—this was normal. In moments of crisis, a person's potential often exceeded their usual limits, but once the danger passed and they relaxed, they would not be as powerful.

“Darling, you’re not hiding anything from me, are you?” Though Eirik’s explanation seemed reasonable, a fleeting intuition made Elvynna uneasy.

If her husband was truly a player, then was he really a good man, or just a complete scoundrel?

“What could I possibly be hiding from you?”

Eirik thought to himself, a sense of unease creeping in. He resolved to use the Eye of Divine Insight less frequently. Elvynna was starting to have doubts about him!

If she ever uncovered the truth... he shuddered to think of the consequences.

Maybe I’m just overthinking this? So far, I haven’t encountered a single male player…

Elvynna nodded, her doubts sinking deeper within her heart, hidden behind a veil of calm.
