Quartz pulled himself out of bed exhausted from yesterdays events. At the breakfast table his parents radiated an aura of gloom. It was not like he could do anything to cheer them up, after all it would be easy to sense that he did not have a core, and revealing what he had been up to seemed like a bad idea at the moment. “I am going for a walk.” It was a simple statement, and his parent assumed it was to come to grips with his new harsh reality. In truth, it was the perfect excuse to dive back in to his experimentation.
Just like that Quartz was now stood upon the shore of the river bank, his feet thrusting rocks as he weaved his way towards the open water. (Okay, if tracing the same element erases the symbol, and pure mana activates it, what happens when I traces with a different element?)
Quartz started by tracing the wind part of his fireball spell with pure mana, shifting over to motes of wind mana when it reached the fire section. A sphere of fire burst forth like usual, only when it reach three fourths of is destination something unexpected occurred. A loud boom echoed over the river, as the flaming ball split apart. The force of the explosion creating a large wave, which was now rushing towards him. “Maybe I should have used one of the finger fireballs.”
The story has been taken without consent; if you see it on Amazon, report the incident.
A curved line made up of earth mana was illuminated with pure mana, as Quartz shoved his hand forward, mounds of dirt began to pile up, this formed a barrier large enough to block the wave from coming into contact with him. The two waves next to him however pulled in pebbles from the shore as they receded back from once they came.
“Alright so fire and wind create explosion, good to know.” To make certain of this fact, Quartz would try with his fire line spell, not the best name, but it would do on the spot. As a precaution he traced the symbol of his flight spell with pure mana. Now that he had taken to the air, waves should not be a problem. Careful to avoid tracing the flight spell with wind mana, he used the motes to trace over the curved fire line. This time a dense explosion thrusts him backwards at a tremendous speed. (Alright, so the fireball spell has a delay for some reason, but this explosion is immediate. Lucky I thought a head and had my flight spell ready, otherwise I would have crashed into that tree below me.) “Lets see if doing the same thing, but this time using the wind symbol, and the fire mana, has the same results.”
As it turned out, it did not. Instead of creating an explosion, this combination created a warm blast of air, much like a hand dryer from Quartz old world. With that in mind, Quartz traced water mana over the wind line symbol. This did as he thought, although unlike with the fire mana, which was only the temperature of a hand dryer, the water mana created frigid wind, so cold in fact, there now rested a bridge of ice in front of him. Seeing this, it was clear what to test next, and sure enough after tracing the wind mana over the water line symbol, a line of ice had been created. “I could make a killing as an ice sculptor.” Not that he had any talent for such things. He was reluctant to try anything else at the moment, though he had a pretty good guess what would happen when he combined the water symbol with earth mana. He spent the remainder of the day just becoming accustomed to basic spells, before heading home for the night.
