Quart copied the pattern of the fireball spell onto each finger on his left hand. (I should see if I can cast multiple at once.) It was a bit challenging at first, is it would be like trying to write with both hands at once, possible, but it would take a long time before he would be any good at it. Luckily these were small patterns so this went a lot better than it would have been for something grander. Which now that he had time to processes it, he wanted to try. A glob of wind mana gathered at the cusp of Quartz ankle, which he shaped into a curved line much like the ones on his arms. He did the same on the opposite ankle. Pure mana light up as he traced them.
Quartz was jetted into the air, rising at a rapid pace. Then the spell ended. “Wait a minute! I did not think this through properly! Shit!” Pure mana’s soft glow radiated as he traced it over the earth symbol on his arm. At the same time he also traced it over the water one. A pile of mud quickly formed below, breaking his fall. (That was dangerous.) “Okay, a few things to think about. First I need a way to break my fall, without ending up covered in mud. Second, straight up is not flight, so I need a way to move forward. Third I need to figure out how to make this semi passive, as flight would be straining on my mind long term.” It was clear to him that the first two would be easier to accomplish.

Quartz’s feet were now covered with circles drawn by wind mana. It would take a lot of practice but, this was the key to landing. These air balls did not push him upwards, they acted more like cushions. Next he formed small curved lines on his heels, just enough to push him forward. In order to see if it worked properly, he traced the lines on the heels with pure mana. He speed forward slightly, enough that it was clear he could use this for moving in a straight line. “But what if I need to move backwards?”
Curved lines of wind mana now rested on Quartz waist. Once more he traced them using the pure mana from the air. He glided backwards. “Okay good.” For good measure he made curved lines on his hand near his pinkie finger these would give him a little more control over his motion.
“Test flight number two here we go.” Jetting into the air once more Quartz shifted to the heels, and jetted forward, okay so he was beginning to fall, however he was flying, he could always send out another jet of air to rise if he wished. Quartz spent the rest of the day getting accustomed to how to fly. He was having a blast. “Not only did I improve my focus, but I am starting to be able to pull it off subconsciously.” It was like muscle memory, maybe he would not have to create a passive way of casting if his mind did it for him.
Quartz plopped down against his bed. “This has been fun!” His eyelids shifting closed, he gently drifted off to sleep.
