A young man gasps, hot air circulating, rushing down his throat, as it enters from his mouth. His lungs growing heavy. Chunks of burning paper gently float by, tear drops evaporate from his cheeks. A grimace is plastered on his face. “My note book!” (Why did they have to burn it?) All his efforts over the past month now washed away in a bed of smoke.

The code for the game finished, he walked home, notebook in hand. Then he heard her voice, why her of all people. Violet latched onto the notebook, tugging it out of his hands. “Hey loser, you know someone of your background should not have something as fancy is this notebook.” Digging into her pocket, a yellow lighter became visible. With a flick of her thumb the flame danced to life. She hovered the flame over the notebook, within ten seconds it began to burn. “Fetch!” Violet flicked the notebook into an alleyway.

The alleyway was to narrow, which is why the young man was now struggling to breath. His vision growing darker by the second. “I did not even get to test if the magic system in the game was viable.” Those words would be his last in this world. A body collapsed next to a pile of ash would remain a mystery to those who would latter locate it.

Pure air flooded his system as he took his very first breath. Sound rebound from his ears, it seemed to be a female voice, but the language was unclear. This he would latter learn was the voice of his new mother Cider.

Cider along with her husband Quill, watched as their son grew over the years. He had a remarkable intelligence, he grasped the concept of sensing mana from a very early age. Everyone wanted their child to learn this as early as possible, as it would latter help them while they formed their core. Not only was he great at sensing mana, he seemed to accel at mana manipulation, which would farther help him establish to create his core. Everyone in the world was taught these skills it was easy, but without a core not much could be accomplished, but the chances of that happening were extremely low. Little did they know there son would change that prospective throughout his lifetime.

“Good morning Quartz.” “Good morning to you as well mother, also father.” “So today is your sixteenth cycle, which means today is the day.” Quill’s words echoed as he handed Quartz of hot tea.” “So what element do you think you are going to get?” Cider questioned. “Hard to say.” “Well get to it!” Both parents spoke in unison.

Quartz found himself perched on his bed. (Okay so I pull in the motes of pure mana, and then vibrate them against my heart.) He waited for the vibration that should follow, but it never came.

“Mom, Dad I am sorry!” “No! It cannot be, why?” A pained scream retched out from his mother. “How can this be possible?” His fathers head now hung in shame. “It pained him deeply to see the despair on his parents faces, but there was nothing he could do to relive it.
