Chapter 3

During his exploration, Star Han visited many places before remembering that his main purpose was to buy some books. He wandered around, searching for a bookstore. After a few more streets, he finally found one. Looking up, he saw the sign "Accidental Bookstore," which seemed quite peculiar. Perhaps it was inspired by Xu Zhimo's poem "Accident." Star Han quietly hummed the lines to himself:

I am a cloud in the sky,

Occasionally casting a reflection in your heart—

You needn't be surprised,

Nor do you have to rejoice—

In an instant, the trace disappears.

You and I meet on the dark sea,

You have your own direction, and I have mine;

Whether you remember or not,

It's best if you forget,

Let our lights shine in this encounter!

The name of the bookstore was interesting, but Star Han wondered about the interior design. He stepped inside and carefully looked around. The bookstore was well-stocked with numerous books. The layout was elegant and stylish. Walking inside, he could smell the fragrance of books, which brought a unique feeling. Star Han instantly fell in love with the place.

As he surveyed the bookstore, he noticed that there weren't many people inside. Just a few individuals were reading books. Star Han paid little attention to the presence of others; he was focused on finding good books. Occasionally, he picked up a book and read a few pages. It was still early, so he decided to spend some time reading to pass the time. In truth, Star Han had loved reading since childhood, especially novels and storybooks. He had been reading them for over ten years, starting from the third grade of primary school. He had read quite a number of books, not bragging, but he was familiar with many well-known novels and storybooks.

However, besides fiction and storybooks, Star Han had little interest in other genres. After searching for a while, he couldn't find any books he wanted to read. Considering the time, he decided it was time to head back. He planned to buy a few reference books that he had chosen beforehand. Just as he was about to leave, he spotted a book, "Ordinary World." It stirred something in his heart. He had read this book before, borrowing it from someone else. He had only skimmed through it at that time. Since then, he had wanted to buy his own copy and read it carefully. However, due to various reasons, he hadn't been able to do so. But it seemed that today his wish could finally come true.

With that thought in mind, Star Han reached out to grab the book, "Ordinary World." Normally, this wouldn't have been worth mentioning. However, sometimes in life, even though it may seem ordinary, it doesn't mean that nothing eventful happens. This world is full of possibilities, where a minor, seemingly insignificant event could change your life. Star Han was a living example of this.

As he extended his hand towards the book, about to grab it, he suddenly stopped. Why? It was because at that moment, another hand also reached for the same book. Two hands met in mid-air—one fair and smooth, the other dark and rough. These two hands represented two different individuals, and their differences not only indicated their different genders but also their contrasting lives. Perhaps there was more to it, but we can only know this much.

The two hands instinctively paused in mid-air, hesitated for a moment, and then withdrew. Star Han turned around and saw a girl standing beside him. She seemed to be around the same age as him. It was winter, and she wore a white coat, with long hair flowing down to her shoulders. She had an ethereal appearance, and a hint of surprise was visible on her face. Her eyes, like autumn water, were fixed on Star Han. Star Han couldn't help but be stunned by her presence because she was beautiful. Although her attire was simple, it didn't diminish her radiance.

Star Han quickly regained his composure, thanks to his Clear Mind Decision. His first thought was, "She is really beautiful." However, the subsequent thought was, "Keep a respectful distance." Being too beautiful often meant that such beauty was beyond the reach of ordinary people. Moreover, beauty often came with troubles. From Xi Shi to Diaochan, from Zhaojun to Helen, stunning beauties were often accompanied by disasters. Not everyone could handle such situations. Star Han preferred to avoid unnecessary complications; it was his principle.

Furthermore, wherever such a beauty went, she would always attract attention. This was something Star Han disliked the most. However, upon further consideration, even if he tried his best to please her, she might not even notice an ordinary person like him. She was bound to have many admirers, and there would surely be numerous outstanding individuals around her. Having seen countless talented and charming men, she wouldn't pay any attention to an ordinary person like him. However, for some reason, Star Han had a feeling that he would meet this girl again in the future. But then he thought about it—two people meeting in a city with a population of millions would be a remote possibility. With that in mind, Star Han felt relieved.

This tale has been unlawfully lifted from Royal Road; report any instances of this story if found elsewhere.

At that moment, the bookstore owner approached, and Star Han quickly asked, "Do you still have a copy of 'Ordinary World'?"

"Oh, that book? No, we don't have any left. This is the last one," the owner replied.

"Oh, thank you," Star Han sighed inwardly, realizing that his wish was destined to go unfulfilled. He didn't feel like looking for any other books, so he prepared to leave. However, a melodious voice reached his ears. "Hey, I don't want this book anymore. You can have it if you like," the girl said, holding the book and speaking to him.

Star Han looked at the girl, pondered for a moment, and accepted the book, saying calmly, "Thank you." He then turned around to pay for it. He was a man of few words and never pursued things he couldn't attain; that was Star Han's principle.

Wang Shiyi watched as Star Han walked away, her mouth moving as if to say something, but no words came out. She couldn't help but feel a bit puzzled. Although she wasn't a petty person, she knew well of her own charm. Since childhood, she had been adored by everyone for her intelligence and beauty. Countless boys had pursued her since middle school. She had never shown any lack of interest in others. Yet, this was the first time someone had treated her with such indifference, and it was an ordinary and inconspicuous boy. Logically, she shouldn't have given him a pleasant expression. But for some reason, not only was she not angry, but she also gave him the book. She had searched through several bookstores to find a copy, and although he had discovered it slightly earlier than her, she should have bought the book. Why did she reason like this? Furthermore, when she gave it to him, he didn't seem particularly grateful. Besides awkwardly saying, "Thank you," he didn't say anything else. It would have been better if he didn't say anything at all!

That boy seemed plain and ordinary no matter how she looked at him. She wondered if he was proud or insecure. However, she couldn't quite put her finger on why she felt he was different. What was happening to her today? She was lost in her own thoughts. Wang Shiyi shook her head, looked around, and realized that the boy had already left. It was time for her to leave as well. However, she had a premonition that they would meet again. Suddenly, she thought of something and smiled faintly.

Meanwhile, as Star Han made his way back to school, he couldn't help but think of Wang Shiyi. She was a girl with simple attire but astonishing charm. He could sense her extraordinary temperament, unlike the kind of girls nowadays who exclaimed "oh, my god!" at every little thing or said things like "you're so handsome, I'm in love with you" at the drop of a hat. She wasn't like those who constantly had pictures of Zhang Ziyi or Sun Yanzi in their minds but would ask, "Which handsome guy is Li Bai, and where does he live?" She belonged to the kind of girls that Star Han admired the most. He had a feeling that they would have an extraordinary relationship in the future. However, instead of feeling happy, he felt a bit anxious. Star Han thought to himself that the present was the most important, regardless of what might happen in the future. He could only focus on what he could control. Today, he had finally obtained a copy of "Ordinary World" and should read it carefully. Otherwise, he would be letting himself down.

Later, Star Han would come to realize that everything that happened that day would profoundly change his life. It altered the course of his life and led him down a winding path, making it more colorful than before. However, these are stories for another time.

After returning to school, Star Han quickly forgot about his time in the city center and continued his ordinary and monotonous campus life. If anything, it became even more mundane than before. Besides being less talkative and maintaining his usual indifferent attitude, there was nothing particularly noteworthy about him. He attended classes like everyone else, listening or not listening, and when not in class, he would either be in the library reading or in his dormitory sleeping.

But life is strange like that. Sometimes, when you hope for excitement, life remains unresponsive. And sometimes, when you least expect it, events find their way to you, and there's no escaping them. It's just how things happen. Star Han had hoped for a simple and ordinary four years of university life. As for what would happen after, he hadn't considered it yet. But fate had other plans in store for him.

One day, Star Han was engrossed in reading at the library. He enjoyed being in the library because it had air conditioning, and the cozy atmosphere provided a refuge from the cold winter. Star Han was completely absorbed in his book. At that moment, someone approached him, but Star Han didn't pay much attention. However, after a while, the person next to him seemed to have discovered something and called out, "It's you!"

Although the voice wasn't particularly loud, in the quiet library, it sounded piercing. Star Han was disturbed by the sudden interruption and felt somewhat annoyed. He looked up to see who was being so impolite.

When he turned his head, he saw the beautiful girl sitting next to him. Star Han couldn't help but feel a bit at a loss for words upon seeing such a pretty girl. He lowered his head and continued reading. But suddenly, he thought to himself, "Wait, have I seen this girl before? It's hard to forget someone so beautiful." And that exclamation, "It's you!" seemed to be directed at him. Star Han raised his head again and suddenly remembered. It was the same girl he had seen in the bookstore. He never expected them to be students at the same school. Star Han couldn't help but feel a sense of joy. In an instant, the two of them just stared at each other, unsure of what to say. Finally, it was Wang Shiyi who broke the silence.

"We meet again. I didn't expect us to be classmates," she said.

"Yeah, I didn't expect that either," Star Han replied.

They fell into silence again, and then Wang Shiyi spoke up once more, "Well, I have to go. I have something to attend to. My name is Wang Shiyi. We'll see each other again."

As Star Han watched Wang Shiyi walk away, he didn't know what to say.
