Collect the World - Book 2 Chapter 48

Chapter 48

As Torg sat atop his mount, he considered his options.

Their army would take almost two days of nonstop flying to reach the Sin Dimension’s entrance. If they traveled in a straight line, they’d cross a little over 40 zones, each controlled by demons.

He could sweep through all the zones inhabited by demons before reaching the Sin Dimension or ignore them entirely.

Both choices had their pros and cons.

Should he remove the presence of demons in the Grandsky Realm, he could surround the portal leading to the Sin Dimension and lock them inside. The only downside was that he might alert Wrath, Greed, and Gluttony during the process, allowing them to unite in the face of extinction.

On the other hand, Torg could blitz straight to the Sin Dimension’s portal, enter inside, and slay Wrath while he was unprepared. Without Wrath, Greed and Gluttony were no threat. If Torg went this route, he’d leave his back vulnerable to the hundreds of thousands of demons lurking in the Grandsky Realm. They might even invade the heartland of the Elemental Nation.

Torg was in a dilemma, unsure of what path to choose.

He wasn’t like Elaine – who could divine information using karma to find the most optimal route.

It took Torg an hour to come to a decision.

Blitzkrieg!

They’d rush into the Sin Dimension, slay Wrath, Gluttony, and Greed, then block the Sin Dimension’s entrance to the Grandsky Realm. From there, they’d be in complete control of the situation. After that, one obstacle remained before Torg became the absolute ruler of the Grandsky Realm.

Tyranus.

Torg felt deep resentment upon thinking of that monster.

Last time, Torg was on the verge of complete victory against his life’s greatest opponent – the Conceptual Dimension, when Tyranus appeared at the final moment, snatching away his would-be spoils.

Now that Torg was about to defeat the Sin Dimension, he wouldn’t let the same thing happen again. Looking around casually, he had a gut feeling Tyranus was near, following him like a patient hunter.

In fact, he was counting on it.

“You like to strike at the perfect moment, don’t you?” Torg muttered to himself, a smirk on his face. “If I give you another opportunity, I bet you won’t be able to help yourself.”

The gateway leading to the Sin Dimension lay in an open canyon.

Surrounding the gigantic glowing portal was a black fortress in the center of a city.

Years ago, even though the Sin Dimension wasn’t united, the three strongest sins, Wrath, Greed, and Gluttony, still had the wisdom to defend their Dimension’s gateway together. As such, they each garrisoned a portion of their forces here year-round.

With so many demons raiding and plundering the Elemental Nation, the fortress eventually became a trade center where they could sell their loot and restock their supplies. Over time, the fortress continuously expanded until it became the city it was now, home to millions of demons.

At this moment, atop the city walls, a patrol team bickered amongst themselves. A young woman wearing skin-tight armor spoke impatiently, “We’ve been walking these walls for weeks. When will that slimeball Hector let us leave to go hunting? I want to kill something!”

The patrol captain spat on the ground. “If you hadn’t tried hiding some of your spoils, would we have been punished here for so long?”

The woman immediately pulled out her dagger, threatening, “Say that again. Last I recall, that was your idea.”

Another demon in the squad snickered. “Captain, don’t get on her bad side. She killed her last superior. You don’t want to be her next victim, do you?”

“Uh,” The captain withered under her glare. “You’re right. It was my idea. Sorry.”

“That’s what I thought,” The woman harumphed and sheathed her weapon.

Just then, the captain noticed a dot on the horizon. Pointing, he asked, “What’s that?”

The rest of the team didn’t care to look. “Who knows? It’s probably just some loser on their mount.”

The captain stood on the spot and kept staring as his teammates walked away.

As the seconds passed, his expression grew increasingly pale.

Gulping, he turned around and hopped off the wall, making a run for the gateway to the Sin Dimension. The commotion drew his teammate's attention, and when they looked over, they saw their captain sprinting as if his life depended on it.

“What the slimeball?” One of them swore.

The annoyed woman from earlier remembered that their captain had pointed at something earlier. Turning to look, her jaw dropped. “Oh…”

Just like her captain, she jumped off the wall and followed in his footsteps.

The rest of the team finally caught on that something was wrong, and when they looked up, they saw millions of flying mounts closing in on their location. There were so many they blotted out a portion of the sky.

Scared out of their wits, the remaining team members fled for their lives.

One of them shouted as they ran, “Enemy attack! Enemy attack!”

The shout echoed across the fortress, startling everyone into action.

Seconds later, a bell rang out repeatedly – warning the garrison troops that a fight was imminent. Demons rushed out of the inner fortress and climbed the walls, ready for battle.

Yet all of them froze on the spot when they saw what they were facing.

One of the demons suddenly turned and ran, and when they did, all hell broke loose.

None of the demons had any discipline, and all of them cared about themselves, so when they saw an enemy they couldn’t defeat, they turned and fled.

Thousands of demons made for the Sin Dimension’s gateway, but considering its size, it wasn’t wide enough to fit them through all at once. Understanding that, one of the demons sliced the hamstring of the person in front of them, allowing them to overtake the latter. They weren’t the only ones to attack.

One thing led to another, and a massive brawl broke out.

It was chaos.

A minute later, about half of the garrisoned troops had made it through the gateway when the surroundings turned bright.

A few demons looked up to see thousands upon thousands of meteors raining down from the sky, signifying that the Elemental Nation’s army had arrived.

Without any fanfare, the countless meteors landed on the demons within the fortress, killing them in an instant. While some collided with the fortress itself, causing it to collapse, the majority rained down upon the city, unleashing a complete massacre.

Screams and wailing rang out briefly before falling silent as hundreds of thousands of demons perished amid the flames. Countless structures collapsed and all signs of life vanished.

The war had begun.
