Conquistador (XV)

Conquistador (XV)

The two forces faced off against each other, each of them tense and ready for combat. The Conquistador’s blessed soldier stood in front of all of his other forces, keeping an eye on the commander. Said enemy was busy keeping an eye on them, along with looking over each of the other monsters that were in his control.

The enemy commander was most likely trying to figure out the best path forward. After all, they were now surrounded by several hostiles that were holding up their march. He had to admit that if he was faced with such a massed group of warriors, even he’d be hesitating and trying to figure out what to do.

Though, that did make him raise an eye. Considering what he’d been told, the commander should have all the power necessary to turn his battalion to dust, even with the upgraded soldier. Were they perhaps thinking over their next step because they were weak… or because they were trying to conserve energy?

Whatever the case, the stand-off provided him with the necessary time to recover all of his energy. He had spent a lot of divine energy converting the enemy commander’s troops to his own cause. If he wished to try to convert this bastard to his cause, then he’d have to pour a lot of power in just to achieve this goal.

The two sides were staying in their positions, trying to figure out what to do. All of this allowed him to restore a good amount of his power, approximately sixty-eight of his total capacity. Then, that was when the enemy commander shook their head before taking a step forward towards his group.

“Hrm. What is this? Are you trying to do a show of force here, to intimidate me and the rest of my men from continuing onwards? I will tell you this right now, you rogue: all of this had led to nothing more than utter failure. I have no fear of you whelps, not when you are so weak that you cannot do any harm to me or my squadron. If you walk away now, then I might consider letting you go free for your insults.”

His soldiers didn’t react to any of those threats. If anything, those words seemed to bolster their spirits, as they began to walk forward. Whether that be due to the posturing this fool was doing, or the fact that they could detect that the other warrior shad fallen to his control, none of that mattered. What was important was that they were getting ready to attack, moving into position to take down this bastard once and for all. His blessed soldier flew up into the air, ready to get into combat whenever.

The enemy commander let out a deep sigh, before shaking their head.

“Pity. Very well. Men, take care of them.”

That was the cue for him to act. He took a deep breath, ready to reveal his presence and to order the converted troops to rebel against their commander. However, there was something that he noticed, something he certainly didn’t have the ability to do before.

He could connect to the newly converted soldiers, tapping into their mind to give all the information necessary to act. This was something amazing. No, more than that, this was revolutionary. This could be used to avoid getting involved with any personal battles, allowing him to stay out of sight for any upcoming battles. Whatever the case, it was time to take advantage of this newly discovered power.

The Conquistador ordered his newly converted troops to march on forward, before making them stop in their tracks. Then, that was when he made them all turn around and attack the enemy commander.

They rushed in, but not towards his soldier. They all went towards their former commander, before sinking all of their weapons into their body. Each of their strikes landed, making the target absolutely confused. At least, until their weapons burst into flames and enveloped the commander in righteous fire.

The shout of shock was not what he expected at all. Shouldn’t the enemy commander be screaming in pain, rolling around and panicking in attempts to get this fire off of them? Hell, why weren’t they moving or attempting to get those converted soldiers off of them?

He got his answer the moment the enemy commander grabbed two of the weapons and ripped them right out of the lizard monster’s hands. Those warriors gaped in surprise, at least temporarily. Then their weapons found themselves embedded into their skulls, going right through their armor. The motion was smooth that it was as though the defenses were made with nothing more than thin paper.

Huh? What the hell?

He blinked as the enemy commander grabbed two more weapons, not even bothering to unsheathe their flamberge to kill the converted troops. No, they kept on ripping out the weapons from his newly obtained soldiers and using them to bludgeon their attackers to death. All of this left the Conquistador completely floored, considering all the key information he had garnered.

What was this? Was this the strong body that was alluded to earlier? If so, then this was insanity to the highest bidder. How the hell was anyone meant to take down this absolute monster if nothing could do anything to them?

He ordered the remaining soldier, the one with the spear and shield, to back up and get ready to defend against any incoming attacks from the enemy commander. His soldier did as instructed, backing up a good amount of space to prepare for whatever was to come.

Whatever the case, he wanted to have a single one of these lizard monsters for future endeavors. That meant he’d have to make sure this one didn’t die. Considering how things were going, he’d have to make a step and move, fast.

He looked towards his soldiers, ready to send the order through their minds… before discovering that no, he could not give them the same treatment as the lizard monsters. What was this? What was with the discrepancy between the two?

Was this because the lizard monsters had been converted after that one monster obtained the blessing? If that was the case, then that was absolutely frustrating. How did this make any sense? Why was it that this newly obtained ability didn’t retroactively apply to his other soldiers? This was annoying, as this meant he’d need to order them physically to get the job done.

He couldn’t keep hiding and recovering his divine energy anymore. He’d have to reveal himself in order to give his orders. That meant no more focusing and becoming a potential target from the enemy commander. However, there was still some good news: he highly suspected this bastard had no way to attack him while he was high up in the air. Not to mention the fact that he had his ranged attack, as well as several soldiers that could possibly kill them with one hit. Those energy blasts were capable of turning a person inside-out, they should be capable of taking this bastard down.

All they’d need to do was ensure that the enemy commander was stuck in one place when they launched their attacks. Doable, but one that would take a significant amount of work. However, between him, his blessed soldier, and his army, he was confident.

He had to be.

With a deep breath, he stood up and walked off the edge of the roof. He fell down a small distance, before righting upwards as he began to fly up in the air. With another deep breath, he pointed towards the enemy commander and gave his order.

“All of you! Go and attack the commander! Immobilize him and then blast him, but keep your distance!”

The soldiers moved at his command. Numerous energy blasts came towards the enemy commander, all scattered in different directions and targets to throw them off. Some of his soldiers came in with their weapons drawn, eager to keep them stuck in one place for the rest to do their part. His blessed soldier stayed up in the air as well, before getting ready to launch an energy blast.

That was when everything went downhill. The enemy commander blurred, dodging each of the incoming blasts. When some of the Conquistador’s soldiers came close, they slammed a foot into the ground. That very action caused multiple metal spikes to burst through the ground, piercing and ripping apart any poor souls that were within the blast radius.

That took a few seconds to occur, and the enemy commander wasn’t even close to finished. No, the bastard proceeded to dash forward, finally unsheathing his flamberge and swiping towards three of his melee troops. What happened next made no sense to him at all.

The enemy commander was a good distance away. The blade of the flamberge wasn’t even close to touching either of his troops, and yet, the strike landed. The soldiers that were targeted proceeded to split in half, bisected at the waist. The armor came off with them, before they were transformed into nothing more than dust and bone.

And just like that, his chances of victory went from possible to absolutely zero. Was that the other ability that this bastard had, the capability to extend the reach of their own attack without any kind of warning? What if there were even more on top of everything? What if this was merely the start, and they would show more powers from here?

Whatever the case, he needed to put an end to this bastard, here and now. If they were allowed to continue going, if they chose to retreat, then the enemy commander would merely follow right behind them. If he led them to his settlement, then a massacre would follow.

The Conquistador hated to admit it, but he was in a state where there were no means of victory any longer. Well, there was one path, that being to strike the bastard with the energy blasts, but even that was nearly impossible with the bastard’s super speed and strike range. Though, there was one way to do that.

Abusing his own flight capabilities to get this bastard down once and for all. That was the only path forward, as he would need to coordinate with his blessed soldier to achieve this goal. Though, just to be sure…

He tested to see if he had the same connection as he did with the lizard monsters. To his relief, he found that yes, he could communicate with his blessed soldier without the need of vocal orders. That was good, this was all fantastic. He could coordinate to get the mission done and over with.

With that, he sighed, before sending the mental order. His soldier nodded, before they proceeded to move.

He flew closer to the enemy commander, not enough to be struck with the flamberge nor with that invisible blade, but close enough to garner the attention of the enemy commander. With that, he unleashed the energy projectile from earlier.

As he expected, the commander proceeded to move to dodge the incoming attack. What they probably did not expect was for the giant swarm of projectiles to come right at them from behind. While they were able to dodge most of the incoming attacks, they failed to notice his blessed soldier’s projectile, or ignored it. They probably assumed that such an attack would be target based.

They certainly did not expect for the explosion that erupted, covering a part of their left leg. The attack landed, but the effects were not what he wanted. Rather than causing the whole body to begin breaking down, the armor seemed to be flaking away, leaving behind the pure white skin of the enemy commander.

That made them jump away, fast enough that they slammed into a nearby building and went right through the wall. Though, they weren’t out of the count from that impact, as they jumped out of a window on the higher floors.

Directly for him. Shit.
