Follow That Wolf

Follow That Wolf

“Hey, uh... Why is there a wolf inside?” Joey asks a few minutes later.

“Hah, nice one, Joey! As if we’d believe there is actually a wolf in the building!” Steve says, laughing.

“No, I’m being serious...” Joey says.

The wolf runs up to the men while they are busy working and whines at them urgently.

“AHHH!” the other six workers exclaim when they see the wolf.

The wolf’s ears go down and it stares sadly up at the men before glancing back at the door.

“Well, I’ll be... It seems to be trying to tell us something...” Reynold says.

“Really? What could it want from us humans?” Indigo inquires.

If you discover this tale on Amazon, be aware that it has been unlawfully taken from Royal Road. Please report it.

“It seems urgent. I think we ought to follow it,” Steve says.

“HEY! NO! WE CAN’T JUST SKIP WORK!” Grant yells.

“Alright, if you want to keep working, that is fine. The rest of us will follow the wolf,” Reynold says with a shrug.

“UGH! FINE! WAIT FOR ME!” Grant yells.

The seven workers rush out of their place of employment, following the eager wolf.

“Why, this is the path back home!” Steve states.

Clint Seaton trips over a rock and falls over. Quickly, he gets back up and continues running after the others.

“W-Wait for me!” Clint exclaims, tripping over a log.

The wolf leads the men all the way to the place where Chloe White lies before disappearing into the woods.

“CHLOE WHITE!” the men exclaim.

“She’s dead again! I knew we shouldn’t have left her!” Steve wails, crying.

“The poor girl... She was so young...” Slate says.

“We saved her twice! There has to be a way to save her again!” Reynold says, checking the body over.

There is no obvious sign of what happened to Chloe White. There is no necklace to break or stake to remove. She’s just dead. Reynold Thornton sighs and looks up at his friends.

“Guys... We cannot save her this time...” Reynold says, sniffling.

All the men begin to cry, even Grant Severn and Joey Fielder. Every single one of them feels guilty for Chloe White’s death even though it wasn’t their own fault.
