Chapter 32- Grandma's Present

Chapter 32- Grandma's Present

Despite his efforts to find out what was going on outside the playroom, Anasi was unable to leave. For he found the door locked, even the little side door which was always unlocked for the children, was locked during this time. Of which caused him some concern, one that only increased when the others, especially Nox, brushed it off with, "It happens sometimes."

"But don't you get curious?" The Arachne's voice squeaked a little as he pointed towards the locked doors. To which the other simply shrugged as he was tackled by Mia who demanded his attention.

"Come on," she mewed, standing back up in order to pull on the hybrid's arm towards the centre of the room. Of which contained a large, brown box with flaps on its top. Whereas the other twin, Maya, had half her body inside the object with her tails wiggling slightly as her feet scrambled to push her the rest of the way in.

"You guys should see this," came her muffled voice, just as her feet disappeared into the box, "Uncle God said we can place with it, and is a present to Nox from Great Aunty God."

This statement caused Nox's ear to perk up, as he scampered over to the object, and slowly climbed into it. Whereupon he did find four endarkened boxes with four wheels each, and what appeared to be something even darker than the boxes themselves, but had a rougher and softer texture. Of which was rather strange, as they had not come across it in their short lives.

However, the insides of the boxes contained a soft, red velvet sofa that was wide enough to accommodate even an Arachne like their friend. What is more, there seems to be a smaller, thinner wheel attached to the left side of the interior, which caused the wheels in front to turn in the direction of the wheel inside the box itself. Then there was the area beneath the thin wheel itself, which held two, small foot rests. Both of which were able to be pushed back, but sprang to its original position as soon as the pressure was released.

Unfortunately, the abilities of these foot rests would remain a mystery to the inquisitive minds of Maya and Nox. For they did nothing out of the ordinary beyond giving a slight hiss when pressed. Though, the left one was a little more tougher to press than the right, which caused more of a puzzle within their minds.

"Those look like cars," exclaimed the voice of Anasi as he slowly climbed over the lip of the brown box the pair were in. In his arms, on the other hand, was Mia who was being carried as though she were a princess, and he a knight. However, upon seeing Nox, she did leap from his arms and barreled into the other. Of which led to a small cuddle session between the pair, as she mewed greatly over the fact that she was left all alone whilst they had fun.

"You weren't alone, idiot," spoke aloud Maya who then flicked her sister's forehead, causing the other to exaggerate on the force of the gesture, "Anasi was there with you."

"Oh yeah," mumbled the other as she rubbed her forehead slowly. However, upon realising there was something new in front of her eyes, she did forget about what had occurred, and began to crawl around the odd boxes which were supposedly called "cars". "What're these?" Her right foreclaw pointed at the nearest, whilst her eyes widened, ears perked, and tails wiggled quickly.

"Anasi said they were cars," mumbled her twin sister just as Nox turned towards the Arachne with an inquiry upon his lips.

However, just as he was about to voice such a thing, the four friends' ears twitched to a new noise. One that was of a large door opening and shutting, as well as the soft foot falls of an adult making their way over to their position. Whereupon they did witness the hybrid's own mother, Sarah, peering over with her own ears perked. "There you all are, and I see you already found your present, Nox." This was spoken as she lifted the box with a slight grunt, whilst the children each tumbled into one of the endarkened coloured "cars". Though, Mia and Nox fell into the same one, and scrambled over one another in order to try and see what was happening. This caused the Goddess to chuckle slightly, as she turned her attention towards the front of her person.

"Mama?" mewed Nox, who was lying on his back inside one of the boxes. Where he stared upon his mother with widened eyes of dilated pupils, his forepaws tucked up against the sides of his chest, and his ears lying stretched out upon the ground. This was rarely used, but always had the same effect. For his mother, upon glancing at her son, paused in their little trip to set the box down gently. This allowed her to reach into the area, where she gingerly lifted the little hybrid into her arms so that she may nuzzle his small body with her muzzle.

Whereas the twins, not understanding what had happened exactly, but also wanted attention from the Goddess, decided to take it upon themselves to copying their friend to the best of their ability. This, in turn, led to them also being taken out and nuzzled with, whereas Anasi simply frowned and did his best to ignore the cuddle session that was happening above his head. Yes. He did mumble some words, but they will not be mentioned, as they were quite unflattering towards himself and others.

"Okay Nox, Maya, Mia," Sarah spoke with love as she gazed down at the trio, I have to put you back in the box so I can take you all outside."

"Why?" mewed the hybrid slowly as the trio were indeed placed back inside the box.

"So you four can play with your new toys." To which the children closed their eyes in order to beam their largest smiles as their tails swayed across the "cars".

Afterwards, she did slowly bring the box back up to her chest, and began her walk towards the destination she had in mind. Of which was her own personal garden, and had the space which was normally kept for chairs, benches, and tables to be set apart so that it held a track of some sort. This track, by the by, was made up of an endarkened material that held the same texture as gravel, but also contained a spring to it whenever one were to press down upon it. What is more, the centre of the mass held a single, continuous line of painted yellow stripes, and even held several bends that wrapped around the whole of the area which normally contained seating materials.

It was here that the children were slowly lifted out of the box first, followed by the supposed "cars". However, they were placed off to the side, whereas the latter were placed upon the track, and afterwards were seated within. Of course, all except Anasi stared about themselves with great curiosity, even more so was towards an odd, rounded helmet that were placed atop their heads. No. There weren't any holes cut out for their ears, which caused Nox and the twins some discomfort as they were placed over their heads.

However, the thought of enjoying a new toy was enough for them to disquiet their discomfort, as their eyes widened to new sensations. For the box they were within came alive. Not alive in the sense of speaking, but one that they were rumbling greatly.

These "cars" came to life after watching the Goddess place her right foreclaw under the back of the box, and upon retracting it, saw a bright crimson knob atop a long piece of rope come out. Afterwards, she did release it, and watched as it vanished back underneath the box. Only then did it come to life with a low grumble that slightly shook the boxes they were in.

"Now then," her voice pierced through their wonderment, but only just so. For three of the four friends had to be called a second time due to the fact that their ears muffled out almost all of the sounds around them. "There should be two foot rests underneath the wheel in front of you." The friends nodded their assent to this, as their feet touched them gingerly. However, Anasi's box held such foot rests not under the wheel before his person, but underneath his front two spindle-like legs.

"The one on the right will make you go forward, while the one on the left will make you stop. Okay?" Just as she finished speaking, a pair of rails appeared alongside the track, and were made up of soft felt. However, these were made to be as thick as possible, as they would absorb the impact of the children and their boxes, if such a thing came to be.

"Okay. Just drive around the track for a bit, alright? I'll be here if something happens." This was spoken just as Anasi zoomed off ahead of the trio, and was laughing greatly as he barreled into the wall of soft felt in front of their persons.

"I'm okay," he called out with a wave, as the other three pushed down on the right foot rest a little too much, and rocketed themselves next to their friend.
