Chapter 25- Dinner with Grandma

Chapter 25- Dinner with Grandma

AN: So I made a bit of a blunder, and forgot to post a chapter yesterday... Well, sorry about that, everyone.

"Grandma, Grandma!" shouted Nox as he rushed to the little God King's side at the dinner table which was situated upon a stone flooring within his mother's personal garden. Whereupon he was lifted high into the air, giggling incessantly, and placed atop her head as they situated themselves at the left side of the table itself.

The other children, however, were placed into highchairs between the God Kings and Sarah. Yes. Nox was eventually placed within one, much to his displeasure, but perked up once the food started appearing upon the little tray in front of his person. Of which contained a few fruits which appeared to be blue hued strawberries and sliced melons, as well as a small plate of steaming vegetables. These were given to each of their persons as a way to prepare themselves for the coming meal.

No. Nox did not enjoy the vegetables, and instead tried to secretly give them to one of the twins, who were only happy to have more on their plates. However, just as they were about to take the contents away, his mother caught him, and made him devour the items therein. Of which he did so with a pout, and had to show her that it was all swallowed by opening his small maw. Once satisfied, did she resume her own meal of the same, but on a much larger plate. This was due to the fact of her being older, and having a larger stomach to fill.

However, only the Ageless did not have anything in front of his person, except for an odd glass of a silvery white liquid which sparkled beautifully. When drinking such a liquid, it shined mutely through his neck, then disappeared once it passed through his chest cavity. "What's that, Papa?" called out the young hybrid, who pointed at his father and the odd liquid.

"Hmm?" hummed the God King, "This?" At his son's nod, he did grin softly and shook his head slowly, "You cannot have this until you are older, Nox. For it is the essences of my enemies, and it is all that I need to consume to live."

At this point, the children all heard this, and had a myriad of emotions flittering across their faces. Such as the twins becoming quite curious, what with their heads cocked to one side with widened eyes and perked tails; Nox with his tails swishing all over the place as he leaned in to see more of the liquid disappear down his father's throat, and giggling as the "pretty lights" disappeared; and Anasi grimacing as his mind took to new heights with his imagination showing him the various possibilities of what it could be.

Soon after the Kitsune finished his "meal", did a cadre of Elven chefs appear with covered trays of unknown foods, and small carts full of various drinks for both the children and the adults. The trays themselves were placed, first, in front of Azazel and Sarah, before the children were able to have theirs. However, they weren't allowed to see what was hiding within, but their little noses could already tell. Which led to the twins and Nox whining profusely as they pawed as the silvered coverings, whereas the Arachne simply frowned with his arms crossed over his chest as he waited in silence. For he was the only one of the four who never held the desire to give into his animalistic instincts. Therefore, he simply waited.

This did not last long, however, for just as the Goddesses had their own food revealed, did they themselves see what was hidden from their eyes, but not their noses. Of which contained a small platter of meats which ranged from some sort of sliced up fowl, to a few cutlets from a bovine. Yes. There were also some vegetables, both cut and still whole, within the platter. However, the twins and Nox dove right into their meal without a moment's glance. Whereas Anasi simply stared down at the food, which was done up in such a way that it appeared as a small face.

Such as the eyes were sliced up, purple carrots, the nose was some sort of edible white, bushy flowers, and the smiling mouth had the meats. Though there were some cheeses placed in between the meats, he did not seem to mind, as one of the chefs appeared with utensils for his person. For they realised, quite recently, that he was the only one amongst his friends that was sophisticated enough to use such tools. Therefore, the one to bring them always approached with an apologetic, and oftentimes a sheepish, smile.

At this time, though, his ears caught onto a short conversation happening around the table before him. One that somewhat peaked his interest.

This book was originally published on Royal Road. Check it out there for the real experience.

"About those Humans you captured, Ageless," spoke Azazel with a slow and deliberate manner.

"I will not be releasing them to your person, Mother-in-Law," the Ageless sat back with his eyes narrowing into slits, as his right leg was draped over his left, "They have been caught violating many of my laws, and as such, must be held accountable."

"But what about those actually responsible for their summoning?" Her small, right fist struck the table.

"They have been dealt with," was his reply.

"But-"

"Mother," came the soothing voice of Sarah, as she sighed and placed her somewhat dirtied utensils down upon the table cloth, "We have gone through this every time you come here. The Humans are scheduled to be a part of the Ageless's Feast of Screams, and there are many who desire to witness it."

"Not to mention many of them are Gods and Goddesses who desire to add a few extra voices into the mixture," chimed in the Kitsune as he smirked softly at the little God King, who pouted up at his person, "Besides, unless you have other who would wish to participate, I cannot simply hand them over to you."

"You're the Ageless, though," came her whine once more, "surely they will listen to you."

"Yes, they will," her eyes perked up at this statement, and shone with a glimmer of hope. However, it was quickly dashed away as he continued with, "Word has already gotten out that this event will commence, and with the Humans being a part of the main event. Yes. They are well protected, and no, I will not reveal their location to one such as you.

"For I know you would do your best to rescue these pathetic creatures, and ferry them home. However, this cannot come to pass, as that will only give them more of an assentive to visit my Pantheon. If this was so, then they would view it as one would without consequence, and do whatever they will as their only punishment would be to be sent back to their own home with only a slap on the wrist.

"No, dear Mother-in-Law. This will never come to past, as they must all learn what it means to break one of my cardinal laws." At this point, the Ageless's eyes were glowing a fierce crimson. So much so that the corner of his eyes released thin trails of odourless, dark coloured smoke which spiraled towards the empty sky above. "No. They must all perish, and you," the primary claw of his right paw pointed towards her person, "you must broadcast it to those worlds that they came from; that all Humans will die in the most gruesome of manners, if they set foot upon what is mine."

These words sent shivers down the spine of Anasi, who did his best to focus on the rapidly cooling food in front of his person. For he did not wish to be caught eavesdropping on their conversation, as the consequences were unknown to him. However, he was rather curious about what this "Feast of Screams" actually entailed, but would save this query for whenever he returned home. As it made those before his person rather uncomfortable when speaking of such a thing to a child.

In the meantime, however, his eyes did spy the two God Kings relaxing against their respective seats, but were none too pleased with one another. Even with the Lady Sarah doing her best to mitigate the tension somehow, it was still apparent to even the eyes of a child. That is, until Nox somehow took note of this, crawled out of his high chair, and mewed softly to the right of Azazel. Of whom jumped slightly at the sudden noise, and glanced down at his person with an, "Aw."

Which led to her reaching over to lift him into her arms, where it became apparent that his eyes had become large and full of nothing, but his pupils. Even his ears, which were normally perked up, were laid flat against his head. This led to her hugging him close, as an aura of love leaked from her being for the little child. Yes. She did smile down at his person, and cuddle with him for a time. Of which broke the tension between the God Kings, as they heard the child try to purr quite loudly due to the affection given to his person.
