Chapter 26 : Battle For Goldfair City - 3

An expert who was in the Yuuma’s army, wearing a shiny black coat, appeared through the doorway of the room Yuuma was in. His already pale face had became even pale seeing the carnage that had happened on the front and back gates. Explaining everything that had happened, he waited for Yuuma’s order.

His name was Amor, following Yuuma ever since he was 16, saying that he was Yuuma’s left hand man wouldn’t be false. He was only second to a man named Drago, whose current whereabouts was not even known to Amor. Below Amor there was 5 knights who served Yuuma in his fief. They were called death knights because of the slaughter they had brought upon their own people. Like grim reapers, they ordered to capture and test on humans. And when a test result was satisfiable, the subject’s whole family would be made test subjects to know if the reason was blood related.

One of these death knight was the man who had just fell on the front gates now. And if it wasn’t for him underestimating the enemy and doing a foolish thing like catching an exploding arrow bare handed, the outcome would have been very different.

Yuuma thought about what to do, he was at the verge of a break through, the experiments were getting closer and closer to success. If he continued his experiments, he was sure that within an year, he could reach the pinnacle of cultivation. In not just one but both the elements that he had in him. Fighting in person now was not a choice that he could make. The stakes were too high, and he was not sure of the extend of the powers of these strange weapons.

Fire arrows that explode and metal balls that were ten times faster than arrows, there were also things that exploded walls into rumbles. Whomever his enemy was, they had executed the attack in a perfect manner. They had the element of surprise, the perfect timing and if they had taken down a castle, he was sure they would have also taken all the other strategic points in the city.

He had no interest in the city, the lone reason he helped Yugimi get power was to get a constant flow of test subjects to experiment on. The situation now was looking bleak, he couldn’t afford to fight, and his trusted knights were non disposable. He had already lost a good soldier. Losing some more to win the city back was no good. He believed in projecting superior power to crush the enemy, now he felt like he was on the same ground as the enemy. It doesn’t matter if it is the Royal army or some private army, if fought with, would cause casualties on our side and thus was not a wise choice.

If his knights had the armour and weapons that they had when he was in power, this small battle was nothing. But they had chosen to leave those heavy equipments for lighter cheaper, stuff for ease of travelling by reducing the load of their mounts.

Letting out a sigh, he opened his mouth to order something to Amor, and that was when Yugimi ran into Yuuma’s chamber kneeling in front of Yuuma.

“Please help me lord, the enemies are powerful, too powerful.” Yugimi could only watch the slaughter as it happened in the gate. He had seen the knight of Yuuma rushing forward only to get blown up by some arrows, he was scared of his life. There was no way the enemy would leave him alive, the only end he would have if the city fell is death, and death was the least of his concern. If it was the families’ allies behind this attack, he was sure that he will be tortured for an eternity if they caught him.

Yuuma walked out of the room, slowly, without replying anything. Yugimi was relieved, lord himself was about to go into battle, he was saved!

After reaching the main corridor, Yuuma walked towards the back entrance, Amor following closely behind. After a few seconds, a knight joined them, then two, and the time they had reached the back entrance, the whole rank of experts were behind Yuuma. They looked like an army of skeletons, some in cloak, some in suits.

Reaching the back gate and seeing the hwacha, the weapon that had killed one of his knight, Yuuma had a complicated feeling in his heart. If he had this weapon, his aims would be easier to accomplish. But there was no way but to destroy this now as they wanted to break out of here.

Three men walked forward, The first man kicked down, a large boulder splitted earth and came out, levitating in the air. The second man drew fire glyphs all over the boulder, and with a final snap, the boulder was on fire. The third man kicked the stone, he was an earth mage and the stone buzzed towards the hwacha. exploding on impact and rockets flew all the place, like a misfired firework.

The men that guarded the carriage saw this and ducked down to avoid the explosion. But still many fell prey to the explosion and rocks that flew up from the explosion like meteorites. A few of the men still had their composure and started shooting at the direction the fireball came from,

While many others deserted the scene in fear.

Yugimi who was in the back of all the experts heaved a sigh of relief, I was right in choosing to do as lord Yuuma told, he thought. But what Yuuma done next shattered all his hopes.

Yuuma took out a whistle blew it, so did all the other experts. In a few seconds the elemental panthers that were on the stable and the giant raven that was in the woods nearby came to their masters.

“Thanks for your hospitality, Yugimi, have this as a reward.” Yuuma said this and tossed a blue spirit stone to Yugimi.

“Lo-Lord! Please don’t !” Yugimi begged, he had no other choice, he didn’t even look at the spirit stone, he was sure that with the power that Yuumi that had displayed now, he would be saved.

Yuuma paid no heed to his words and climbed onto the raven.

“Are you crazy old man? You just saw what they could do right? Why should we provoke them, just let them go” A man who looked strong, yet timid said.

“What if they are not running away, but going to do an attack on the front? If we don’t do this, they will be in danger! Just shoot !”An older man, probably in his fifties, yet was muscular and had a heroic look said to the young man.

They were standing behind a carriage, and the carriage was nothing other than the hidden, canister loaded cannon. And these two men were now at a dilemma on whether to run away and save their lives or attack and die as heroes.
