Chapter 25 : Battle For Goldfair City - 2

The same scene played out at all the towers of Goldfair city. The soldiers were trained to do one thing and they did it right. Only one of the tower required two grenades as the first one fell down, gladly the men atop the ladder quickly notified the man that was guarding the base and no one was hurt, except the enemies who were blown into smithereens of course.

Yuuma was in meditation when the explosion rang out. Opening his eyes, his cold eyes stared through the window into the dark skies above. He made a light beckoning action and a man who was among the experts walked out from the darkness and bowed to Yuuma.

The appearance of Yuuma was very different than before, there was a hint of vitality in his face and a little flesh above his bones. He seemed to be getting better.

“Go help them,” Yuuma said in a weak voice.

“Yes, master.”, the man bowed again and then with a kick to the ground, leaped forwards towards the door and disappeared from into the darkness of the corridor.

Just as he was leaving, the second explosion rang out, closely followed by a third. Yuuma frowned, raising his hands to stroke his chin, he was still looking out into the darkness of the skies, pondering.

Inside the castle, it was getting chaotic. The men who were sleeping all woke up from the noise of the explosion, and immediately started putting on their armor for battle. More explosions rang out, sometimes near, sometimes far. But the thugs were sure of one thing, the sound was all coming from inside the castle. They all became very scared, what in the actual hell is this noise? Even spirit cannons wouldn’t make this much of a ruckus.

A group of thugs was running to go outside the castle but soon realized a problem. The corridor that led to the side entrance of the castle was covered in a pile of rubbles, the exit was gone and replaced by a collapsed stone wall. They ran back through the way they came towards the next exit.  Just as they were about to reach the open entrance, a ball of fire and smoke with a loud explosion made them all fall back. Many were injured, heavily, but more than that they all become mortified. This was their stronghold, and the one who cast the fireball upon them just now could be no ordinary mage. e must at least be a level above the experts with master Yugimi.

“Shit. we are no match for them, retreat!” the leader of the group ordered them to retreat, but where can they go? The corridors that led to the doors on the sides of the castle had all crumbled.

The man that just beside Yuuma was also facing this situation, he tried two side doors, only to see his way blocked, and the third time he chose the longer route of the main gate to exit the castle. Running through the main corridor, he exited the castle, and the next moment, a bullet hit his shoulder. But unlike the other expert’s whom the bullets pierced through the body, this man’s body with a higher cultivation didn’t let the bullet to pass fully through. It stuck inside his shoulder.

Tilting his head a little, he looked at his bleeding shoulder, then gripped his sword and drew it from its sheath. The sword was silver in color, its spine a shiny red, as it was drawn from the sheath, it started to get ablaze. All this happened in an instant, and the next moment, he leapt towards the men who were advancing towards the castle.

“Bang. Bang. Bang”

Three bullets hit his chest but did almost nothing to do his advance.

The first bullet had much more muzzle speed and momentum as it was a sniper round, but these iron balls that just hit him was not of enough momentum to pierce through his body.

There were about seven more bullets that buzzed through the air, just beside him, but he was able to dodge most of them. Technically he was not dodging, he could only run in an unpredictable manner to escape from these high-velocity projectiles. And luck decided everything else.

50 more meters.

The man was advancing quickly, he wanted to get into the twenty-meter range to use his fireballs upon these puny rats who only knew how to sneak attack.

He wanted to scare them and create chaos and thus swung his swords, sending fireballs from the sword to the advancing militiamen. He could have run much faster in a straight line, but it would lead to him being barraged with these metal balls and thus he decided against it.

Another volley of bullets flew through the air, but only one found its target.

Just as he was about to get in the twenty-meter range, the men that were moving forward all flanked to the sides, making a cart appear from behind them. The cart’s front was full of holes, like a honeycomb. And suddenly a man jumped into the cart and tilted and aimed the board towards the expert.

Flashes of fire erupted from the holes and something that looked like arrows flew at high speed towards the expert.

“Hmph. fancy arrows.”

The projectiles he was facing till now couldn’t be dodged or even seen while flying, these arrows were too slow.

About ten arrows flew towards him, he simply sidestepped and dodged most of them and stood in the way of the last two, and caught them with his bare hands. The arrows still had a little black powder left in them and thus twitched in his hands like a worm, trying to escape his grasp.

He had never seen anything like this before, he must collect these to study further. Or so he thought.

The twitching stopped the next moment and a ball of flame and hot gases along with an explosion replaced his hands, stunned, he couldn’t move for a second and the next rocket also exploded in his arms.

The place his arms were, only two gory stumps remained.

He was not sure what had happened. He was stunned at the power of the arrows that exploded in his arms that he didn’t even realize that he was now without his arms.

A few seconds passed and the smoke receded, leaving behind a burned, bullet-riddled body on the ground.

Mike even made sure to give him a headshot just to make sure that this tenacious bastard was really dead.

Lord Yuuma who was inside the castle felt something that ominous had happened.

After the expert died, many thugs who had finally found an open entrance was trying to escape the inferno of explosions that was the castle, ran out, without knowing about the ambush that was waiting for them. The guns roared, and when the occasional metal plate armored thugs or experts who didn’t die from the bullets appeared, the hwacha was fired.

Seeing the carnage in front of them, the thugs all stopped in their tracks. They were truly between the devil and the deep sea.
