Chapter 39: The big meal

Chapter 39: The big meal

I didn't spare Luke any more than a glance as I charged right towards my copy. My excitement bubbled up inside me to the point that it burst out in the form of laughter. Which came out as more evil than excited, but I didn't care at that moment. I had a fight to continue, possibly to my death, but hey, what's life without death fights.

The ground cracked and shook as I launched myself at the copy of myself. As I careened towards my foe, I forgot that he could repeat what happened the last time I charged him. Waves of fire, lightning, ice, and literal waves of earth surged forth from my copy in a highly flagrant use of mana. Needless to say, there are good odds that I wouldn't make it through those attacks, even with my resilience. I gave a mental shrug and kept charging. If I was to die, I would die. It wasn't that big of a deal. I had been on the tight walk of life for some time, and I wouldn't ever dare to try and escape death.

As the wave of elemental death surged to devour me, a triangular prism of light appeared in front of me and split the tide with the great effort of me pushing it. Take that death, not this time. I kept shoving that prism forward step by excruciating step. The earth molded under each of my steps as I pushed ever so closer.

The prism had cracks by the second step, and they grew both deeper and more abundant with each one. By the tenth step, I was almost to earth's biggest threat, but the prism was more crack than light at that point. With one final step, the prism shattered with the sound of, well, shattering light. I was engulfed by the elemental waves as my scales were simultaneously burned, cracked, frozen, and shocked.

I shielded my eyes as I got within five feet of punching distance from my adversary, and I knew that our following exchange would be our last. It may be that both of us were at death's door, but for this copy of me, I would be the grim reaper. Or he would be my grim reaper. Regardless I would still be the reaper.

As I reached three feet, I started to think upon very critical things. Like how did Luke gain everybody's trust so fast but failed to unite the towns? Why did I get a unique class when there were like maybe a couple thousand people who were like me. Why was my class so powerful with zero drawbacks. Man, it would really suck if my class got nerfed somehow.

Then I reached the endpoint, the golden punching distance. The perfect point to punch something or someone. In this case, I was leaning towards something as de-Jaceifying my opponent seemed wise to skip out on future trama. But maybe not associating my own body with myself would be bad, na that's ridiculous.

The tale has been stolen; if detected on Amazon, report the violation.

I squared my body, reeled back my fist, and let loose the finest punch I had ever thrown. It even brought a tear to my eye. Which was immediately frozen then evaporated.

As my fist collided with the enemy, waves of scales rippled as my fist smashed its head to the side. This stopped the elemental flow for a second, and I used this time to continue laying into definitely not me.

Or I would have if it didn't catch my second blow and restart the elemental barrage as it death gripped my hand. I activated my only countermeasure for when something grabbed me.

Bones exploded from my hand through its hand, making it scream in terror as bone growths dug through its arm, rupturing outwards at random. The magic cut off again, and I swept in, placing my hand over where the hole I stabbed was healing, and looking it directly in the eyes, activated bone growth one last time, spearing it through its chest and draining my stamina to dangerous levels. For a second, I thought I had won the fight, but one thing was out of place. I hadn't gotten my experience.

Then before my mind could continue, the general sunk its teeth into my shoulder before pulling back shredding it to high hell. For a second, I was in shock before the pain set in. Which really wasn't that bad as the drug-like euphoria was still in place. I retaliated in the only way fit. I bit back.

My teeth sunk in, and the sweet nectar of life swirled into my mouth, and I almost loosened my jaw. I clenched down harder than ever and ripped out a large chunk of my prey's shoulder. The bloody raw meat slid down my throat like wagyu beef.

The screams of my meal fell on deaf ears as both of my eardrums had popped during that last charge. Not able to wait any longer to start eating, I began to eat my foe alive. With each bite, I felt my body recover and be able to withstand the constant magical attacks even better.

I was too focused on my meal to notice that the people who I had saved looked at me with abject horror as I ate my opponent alive as it screamed everything from profanities to pleas for mercy. They watched as I ignored all of this, devouring an almost exact copy of me. Eventually, the notifications came in, but I kept on eating. They would be there after I was done, and this would be my biggest meal yet.

Luke started in horror as he watched Jace eagerly devour a copy of himself and truly wondered if he should have killed Jace when he first met him. Clearly, that would have been the better option, even if they could have all died. Luke's eyes forced themselves away from the vomit-inducing sight in front of him to everyone around him. All of them were in shock, first at almost dying and now at what they were seeing. Luke couldn't blame them.
