Despite Ruse's warnings, I still needed to talk to Alaric. We're together now. Until he said it himself, I would keep my faith in him. He would never betray me.
I had been under the constant monitoring of Ruse's servants. Most of them prevented me from attempting to meet Alaric. They made me do several tasks that used to be assigned to other omegas. It must have been Ruse's orders. Also, I was wondering why Alaric had failed to see me these past few days. Even in the hospital, he didn't visit me.
Was he sick?
I tried to look for him discreetly, but I couldn't find him anywhere in the Alpha's residence or in the pack house. What's going on?
The following week, I had to visit the hospital to remove my bandages. I decided to take my chances and look for more information about Alaric. At least here, there's no way Ruse's servants could intervene.
After a few hours of waiting, I saw Martha doing her rounds. "Martha!"
"Aroa!" she said when she saw me. "I see they already removed the bandages."
"Yeah," I replied. "Ah hey, I have been wondering, I haven't seen the Alpha's son these days."
"You mean Alaric?" she thought for a while before she finally answered. "I heard he had gone to the Royal Palace."
"For what?"
"Maybe to report that the princess was found?" she said.
"Also, he's the destined demon, so he must be arranging his engagement with the princess."
Again, I tried to hold on to my faith in Alaric. Until I met him, nothing could be confirmed.
"I see." I tried to smile despite the hollowness inside me.

A month had passed when I heard that Alaric returned. He came together with the wolves from the palace. According to the reports, the Queen wasn't present when they arrived. They intended to wait for her to share the good news but he had been absent from the pack far too long. He needed to go back.

One night, when everyone seemed busy, I decided to sneak into Alaric's office. Everything seemed the same from the last time I had been here.
"Aroa, what are you doing here?" I turned around to face Alaric.
"I'm here to talk to you." I looked at him. I noticed the bags in his eyes. He looked tired. He must also be suffering.
"I am sorry Aroa," he began explaining. "I have been so busy. I had no time to see you."
"Just answer me this one," I said, "Are we still together?"
Alaric stared at me disbelievingly, as if he had been hit by a train.
"Of course, Aroa!" he exclaimed. "How could you ask that question to me?"
Then, he pulled me into his embrace. I didn't know what to believe but as soon he pulled me into his arms, all my worries vanished.
A few minutes passed before he finally released me.
"Alaric, I needed to tell you something."
"What is it?" he asked anxiously.
"It's about the blood goblet."
"What about it?"
"I think it's my blood."
"What do you mean?" he asked. "Explain it to me."
"On the day the hunters attacked, I saw Ruse being held captive by men." I began telling him. "In saving her though, she got stabbed by a silver in the chest. She was on the brink of death, so I decided to perform a spell I read from the ancient texts."
"A spell?"
"Yes... the blood spell."
Alaric shook his head but I ignored it and continued my story. "I brought Ruse inside the temple. I slashed my wrist and dripped my blood in the goblet of Selena."
He looked at me for a moment. I could see that he was disappointed but why?
"Aroa, you didn't have to make up stories," he said sternly.
"What do you mean by that?" I was offended. "I am telling the truth!"
"I know, you wanted to be with me, but stealing Royal's identity is a heavy crime!" he paused for a moment. "Just wait till I receive my Alpha title, alright?"
"But I am not lying, Alaric!" I insisted. Again, he shook his head as if his patience had run out.
"You are a demon Aroa!" he shouted. "Only Gods can perform the Blood spell without dying."
"But-"
"If you really performed the Blood Spell, an equal value shall be exchanged. You must have died by then!"
