The official called next again. And after the evaluation yet another person passed. The crystal shone a blue colour. This was the first B rank pass. Everyone clapped their hands as she walked away from the crystal and out of the room. They cheered her on but in their hearts, they wanted to be her or be better than her.
The next person stood up and went to the crystal after being called. He was brimming with excitement. He closed his eyes and put his hands on the crystal anxiously, barely holding his hand still. After a while, the official said, " Fail". All the examinees gasped as this was the first ever fail. The examinee taking the test was shocked to hear the results. He opened his eyes and looked at the crystal but there was no colour on it. It was still transparent. He then deduced that maybe the colour disappeared while he had his eyes closed. So he had the chance of being an Alpha something at least.
" Can I get a retake, I didn't see my results." The boy asked the official.
" There is no need your results have been calculated and tabulated. You can go now."
" I never saw my results how can I accept your word as true."
" You dare question my integrity!? If you don't trust me or every official on this block. Then how can you prove any other result to be true...? Unfortunately, you have failed and if you do not leave now you will be removed from the premises, forcefully."
When the boy looked at the crystal his eyes welled up with tears. All his dreams had just vanished like that. He had assumed he had great potential for magic. Out of his family, he was the most gifted with basic spells and because of that, his parents told him to try to get into the academy. He had already bragged to all his friends about how he was going to get in. But how is he supposed to go home now... He looked at the crystal one more time this time his reality was clear as day. The boy walked away from the crystal and out the building sobbing loudly.
The official, unperturbed about what had just happened called for the next person. The atmosphere in the room had lost all its vigour. Someone had failed. This set the reality to the examinees that failure is a possibility... After the official called another person was called forth and this was another fail. After that was another fail. People were getting worried. They wondered did they suddenly up the standard after so many passes... But someone finally passed again and well. This person had C, Mu potential.
The testing speed, sped up after this as people got accustomed to what was required of them. 14 rows of 10 people had gone through the test of which 66 people passed and the rest had failed. It was now time to test the 15th row. The official called "next" and the next person walked to the crystal. She put her hand on the crystal and she was given the rank, C Omega. After that, another person walked up to the crystal after being called. This person walked up to the crystal and cringed while looking at it. He remembered the first time he got tested and he was given the evaluation as someone on equal standings to those from the slums... Lucas looked at the crystal and then put his hand on it like he was told to. After a while red appeared on the crystal, it was flashing. So Lucas thought that this meant that his current mana level was equal to someone of F rank status. But soon after the colour changed to yellow and it disappeared.
The tale has been taken without authorization; if you see it on Amazon, report the incident.
The official then said, " Rank E, Alpha" so Lucas took his hands off the crystal and then walked out of the building. The rest of the people got their tests taken shortly after. Of the 300 people that took the test 140 had passed the rest had all failed. This is also including the top 20 Rank F's.
After exiting the building a badge appeared on Lucas's clothes. It was in the shape of an E. An official saw Lucas and then looked at his badge. Once he saw that Lucas had passed test 1 the official led him to a site where test 2 would take place. Lucas walked with him and until they reached another big building identical to test 1's building but this was on the other side of the Academy. The official told him to go into the building and wait. So Lucas walked up the stairs and then walked into the building. Once he opened the doors and was inside. He saw that this building wasn't the same as test 1. As there was no crystal in the middle. In fact, there were no officials inside either. It was just a bunch of examinees in an empty building. Each of them had a badge on them with their mana rank on it.
Once Lucas walked through the doors everyone looked at him. They looked at Lucas's badge and saw that he was only an E ranker. So after that one glance, many people lost their interest in him. The only extra attention he received was from those that found his skin colour to be quite entertaining. They looked at him and made jokes amongst themselves. This room was a perfect reflection of modern day society from Lucas's world. In this room, the majority of the people were red and white-skinned people. And the minority was blue and green-skinned people. After waiting for a long time for the officials to come into the building people started moving into smaller groups. They had split into groups based on the colour of their skin and the rank they were at.
Rank F and E formed a group. One made of blue and green-skinned people and the other the red and white-skinned people. The same for ranks of D and C. The only difference was that of rank B and A. The people that had rank A potential felt it was beneath them to form a group with anyone below them. Rank B felt the same way. These groups were further split by colour. White and red in a group and blue and green formed a group. But just like in society some of the blue and green skinned people were apart of the red and white's group. Only those they deemed as necessary.
Lucas, on the other hand, was standing in solitude. Not because he wanted to be alone but because the second the F and E groups were formed they looked at him quizzically. They also projected a mental aura that said that they didn't want him to be in their team. So Lucas just stood alone. He wasn't worried about being alone because this test was an affinity test. There was no need to be teamed up.
Once the groups formed an official finally walked into the room. He looked around the room and he did not seem surprised by the results at all. The only outlier was Lucas. The official got a fright when he saw him. But he felt very sorry for him soon afterwards. The principal asked the officials to do this to see whether they could expect segregation from the examinees after the test. And by the looks of it, this was bound to happen.
