Friends and Alliances

"Wake up, fairy stompers!" I hear as I realize it's just now breaking dawn. The birds are louder than usual. Today must be when we move to our first fortresses. It's kind of weird, though, since we've only been in boot camp for a week.

Once my eyes adjust to the sun, I see I'm right. Horses and carts are here by the hundreds. Sometimes I forget how many people are here. Sergeant Altmar sees me standing and yells at me to start packing up. I head into my tent and start packing clothes and my daggers into my bag. Then I noticed that there's a piece of metal and a staff. It almost seems like the metal is from a shattered sword. Almost 7 inches long. Tie the blade onto the staff and make a scythe. "A scythe is for farming though?" I mutter then decide to throw it in with my things. While I'm putting my tent up Aesir comes over with his bag over his right shoulder, and tent over the other.

"Greetings young one. I hope there are no hard feelings about yesterday. Merely was doing what I was told to." He explains, his voice is much deeper than I expected. He starts looking me up and down, then comments, "ahh another Achul paladin. I guess that means we will be seeing a lot more of each other."

He starts walking away and before I can ask him about where we are going, I hear. Duck. As I do I feel a blade cut my hair. Once I turn around, I see the human I fought yesterday. He is standing wide eyed like a fairy around a hungry giant. He swings again with his great axe. I put my hand up, dropping my tent, and the years of orcish calluses hold up. Once I grab the ax head, I walk up to him and drop kick him. He goes flying almost 3 feet in the air and 7 feet far.

Once I turn back to pick up my tent, I see Sergeant Altmar with his hand out. " We have been suspecting him of being a spy since he joined. Thank you, son. For your service you will have first pick of who you bring with you and first pick of carts." I hear groaning behind me. I start to try and find that halfing. Once I found him, I told him what happened, and invited him to go with me.

He turned to the person he was talking to and turned back to me offering, "as long as he goes with us." I turned to him. He's a broad-shouldered dwarf about as tall as the halfling.

"Sounds good." I responded. Then I turned to the dwarf with my hand out, "hello I'm Timothy paladin of Achul. Lawful Sanction."

He shakes it with a firm grip and puts his hand on my back. "And I'm Qysik Paladin of Achul. Lawful Sanction." He booms with a cheerful, deep voice.

Aesir comments, "well I guess I'll be the only chaotic one. Hmph I guess it should at least be one of us."

We all head for the horses. I glance back to where the traitor was, and I see him still laying there. I excuse myself and dash over to him. Once I reach him, he mutters for help. Crouching down, I cast a healing spell. Once it's completed, I drape him over my shoulder to the medics and tell them what happened. Once I made it back to the cart they were about done setting up. Take the job of scouting ahead. "Oh, I wanted to ask, have either of you been hearing an odd voice in your head." I question Aesir and Qysik.

Both of them laugh and Qysik comments, "seems like someone has had too much holy ale!" They laugh even harder. I shrug it off and climb in. We decide that Aesir should scout, Qysik will be in control of rations, and I will clear paths.

We are given directions on how to get to the Achul camp. As we are heading Aesir is giving call outs when enemy and monster camps are ahead, and we steer past them. We make it to a rundown church. "It's getting dark, let's set up camp for the night." As we set up camp, I heard rustling in the leaves but decided it was just the wind.
