An Unfortunate Deadline

Sometimes those snogglehopper higher ups can really mess up your day. Here I was going about my morning. I woke up feeling great about last week’s battle. I went to the shower house and the water was nice and warm. Once breakfast was called for officers and above, I was the first one there (the food was worthy of the deities themselves). Then I got in an amazing workout, that Luk suggested. I must say though I didn’t get all the way through the leg portion. After all these great things some pile of elven earwax must come all the way to camp to tell me that the seven are going to have a meeting in an hour. Begrudgingly I get my “meeting” clothes on and get the barber in the town near to trim me up. Once I make it back to camp, I see them. I can tell that they hate being here as much as I hate them being here.

“Welcome to our Humble camp. I hope your travels did you well.” I make sure to shake all their hands, none are very firm, must be scared of the mud.

“Why hello Marquise,” I hear though none of them open their mouths. I have never understood why wizards use this ability as a flex.

Stolen from its rightful author, this tale is not meant to be on Amazon; report any sightings.

I interrupt, “I prefer Captain Marquise, usually I would be down for the formalities, but this seems important.” The tallest of the captains almost chuckles at my remark, but to keep his image up he goes with it.

“My apologies. Why hello Captain Marquise, we have come here to talk about a change in ranks. For it has to our attention that this is the first battle that has been considered to be a victory. Considering that we joined the war three years ago, this is a bit worrying for the higher ups.”

I can tell that if they weren’t so stuck up, they would have busted out laughing at the last remark. However, because I refuse to humiliate myself I calmly retort, “why I have only seen five battles. Three of which, if I say so myself, were plain and simple a goblin running to fight a dragon.”

One of the other captains that seems to be the most regal of them steps forward, clearly annoyed at how long this has taken. “Okay I’m sorry to be rude, but I’m going to tell you what we have been ordered to inform you. You have been given seven months to gain at least five victories without any losses. If this is not achieved, then the scouting regiment will take your place as the seventh regiment. Now if you don’t mind, we have other business here.” Like the little “princesses” they are they walk off as if they didn’t just threaten my job.

After this meeting I return to my quarters to begin planning my map. Once I enter the tent I see little T. “You mind getting the maps? I have been informed that we are going to need to make some offensive maneuvers in the next 7 months.”
