Chapter 16: A Getaway Cut Short

Saigo pierced through the sky like a speeding bullet as the distant flashes of blue lights over the border wall of Lumios came into view. She took in a deep breath, a greedy grin forming on her face as she drooled a little at the thought of eating some aether beasts.

"The gummy monsters are nearb-". Saigo's body jolted forward as her momentum was cut short. Saigo tilted her head upwards until she was looking behind herself and saw Temperance holding onto her tail.

"Gummy monsters?" Kannachi asked. Saigo nodded as she flipped over and tugged on her tail until Temperance let go of it.

"Yah~ The tasty squishy blue monsters made of gummy-like jello stuff," Saigo stated. Temperance rubbed the back of his head at how nonchalantly Saigo referred to aether beasts.

"Good grief, what is with these siblings and wanting to-".

"She's flying away," Kannachi stated as she tapped Temperance on the head. Temperance looked at his empty hand and sighed as he watched Saigo flying off like a fighter jet. Temperance shook her head in defeat before he teleported using his pink mode Dotoma Mark.

Meanwhile, on the outside side of the border wall, Neo Hika and a platoon of xero drones stood strong against the incoming pack of wolf-like aether beasts. The aether beasts unleashed a torrent of aether energy bombs from their large viscous liquid tails. The front row of xero drones slammed their fists together and activated their ne-lon barriers. The aether bombs slammed into the ne-lon barriers and violently exploded like overly inflated balloons.

Neo Hika crossed her arms and tilted her head to the side before an aether energy projectile flew past her head. Neo Hika raised a finger and fired a ne-lon energy beam from it. The ne-lon energy beam pierced through the head of an aether beast causing a domino effect behind it of aether beasts crashing into each other.

"What a bore, at least when the wyvern types attack it's entertaining watching them spla-". A notification icon appeared in Neo Hika's vision. Neo Hika opened the message: The Ladybug is on the loose. Neo lowered her head slightly and played a displeased tune.

"What's the matter, squadron captain?" a female with a sassy voice asked. Neo Hika glanced over at the human child-sized, and oddly curvy slimling sitting on a table-sized floating golden dish with a tennis ball-sized black crystalline sphere and a glowing white cat paw print randomly on it.

(The cat slimling's entire body is made of opaque snow white slime with a snow texture, they have thick black rings around the top of their thighs with decreasingly smaller rings down to their knees, thick thighs, glowing maroon red tongue, and glowing maroon red eyes with pitch black scleras)

(She's wearing fuzzy maroon-red armbands covering her forearms and the lower half of her legs)

"Master Kyūkyoku Saigo Sakamoto has escaped from her medical checkup again, Lady Zumi," Neo Hika explained. Zumi half-heartedly sighed and shook her head.

"Honestly... that Saigo is such a handful, though it is surprising she's the only one of Antie's and Uncle's children who act like how mother described Anite's parents," Zumi uttered as she noticed a Saigo-shaped silhouette dive bombing from above.

"Speak of the devil," Zumi remarked. Neo Hika, along with the stationary Xero Drones, glanced upwards and watched Saigo's descent before dive-bombing into the pile-up of wolf-like aether beasts. The impact smushed the aether beasts into pancakes and exploded them into a towering pillar of liquid aether. The liquid aether splashed all around the ground as Saigo sat at the centre of the mess while munching on an aether wolf leg.

"Good grief, do they all eat things made of aether?" Kannachi grumbled as Temperance landed at the end of the aether liquid splash zone.

"And who might you two be?" Zumi asked inquisitively as she approached the duo on her floating dish-shaped shield. Zumi floated around the duo as she inspected Temperance and Kannachi with her eyes.

"That would be the boy whom Magistrate Sakamoto has an agreement with," Neo Hika explained. Zumi flopped her head to the side like an unsupported puppet to look at Neo Hika.

"You mean the one who'll be all of their training partner for the academy?" Zumi asked half-heartedly. Kannachi turned her head and stared at Zumi like a deer in headlights.

"Huh? But Mr Sakamoto said he wanted Tem-Tem to get engaged to Naia and her sisters," Kannachi mumbled. The duo watched as Zumi's unamused face slowly morphed into a smirk she struggled to hold back. Zumi covered her face as she snickered, causing Kannachi to pout.

"What's so funny?" Kannachu mumbled as Zumi rubbed her face.

"Oh, nothing but do you honestly think he was being serious?" Zumi asked smugly; however, when she glanced upwards, Zumi's expression became that of a nervous wreck as she leaned back and fell off her floating shield.

"Are you implying I'm being untruthful, my free-spirited niece?" Yokuza asked as he descended and hovered above the group. Zumi clambered back onto her floating shield and meekly looked up at Yokuza.

"N-no... uncle...," Zumi mumbled. Yokuza smirked as he dropped down and landed on his feet.

"Because I was only repeating what Nola and Kusana forced me to say," Yokuza remarked with a hint of annoyance in his voice. Yokuza's ears perked up while Kannachi's eyes lit up.

"Sooo the whole engagement thing wasn't serious?" Temperance asked, causing a mortified look to form on Kannachi's face as she wondered why Temperance was even asking such a question. Yokuza shrugged as his form flickered for a second before the still-eating Saigo appeared in Yokuza's hand.

"I mean I won't stop it if you lot want it to happen but just know I only said it because those troublesome elves wouldn't let up about me saying it," Yokuza grumbled adamantly before he spread out his snowy wings and took off with Saigo playfully waving to the group as Yokuza took her away. Temperance watched Yokuza's silhouette fly over the boundary wall and off in the direction of the city. Temperance placed a hand on his forehead and shook his head in disbelief.

"At least... I only have to do the training partner part of the agreement," Temperance uttered as he glanced back and saw a mentally drained Kannachi laying face down on his kitsune tails, "What's wrong with you?". Kannachi angrily grumbled into Temperance's tails, leaving Temperance to scratch his head while thinking Kannachi was being over dramatic.
