The Quest:

Recover all 11 pieces of Viracocha's Regalia of Creation

(4/11)

Earth Status:

Earth 0

Various dominant Factions

Uncontested - All Native Inhabitants under Level 100

The Clark County Resistance - 1.3% Earth 0 Control

Earth 39

The Kyrn Dominion

System Correction

Illegally Obtained Onix Trono World

Contested by - The Kyrn Dominion (Onix Trono) 98.1% Control, Alex Till (Coricancha) 1.9% Control

“That screen is new.”

“TCCR doesn't hold much of either.”

“We're just getting started professor. Also, just call it Clark County, TCCR sounds like a bad USSR sequel.”

The professor seemed to consider it then shrugged.

“Agreed, to both. What now?”

“Regalia and level 100. So, 39 I guess. Anything I'm missing?”

“Annoy the Onix Trono?”

Alex laughed as the companions sped south past Bullhead City.

“Pretty sure that continuing to exist will do that for me.”

“Agreed. You do have that effect on people. Must be something you learnt from Ben.”

“Low blow professor. He isn't here to defend himself…”

“Till?”

“Would the Communication Array reach Ben?”

“I'm just going to assume you mean New Ben… we need a better way of distinguishing them. Yes.”

Alex slowed down until he was just walking beside the river seemingly deep in thought.

“I wonder…”

“Vance did suggest leveling alone.”

Alex waved a hand like he was dismissing both the professor's comment and Vance's advice.

“It'll be fine.”

“How would he get here?”

“He's the head of both the Assassin and Alchemist Guilds, I'd be more surprised if he couldn't pop over.”

“I'll accept that.”

“Especially with Multiverse Trade and Tourism.”

“Are you convincing me or the System?”

“Both I guess. How do I…?

----------------------------------------

Multiversal Communication Array

Contacts:

Theodore Valian (Local)

Ben de'Vries (Earth 79)

“Rather limited contact list.”

“You've killed quite a few people.”

“Not a huge amount.”

“Till…”

“No good people.”

The professor just stared at Alex.

“No good fully alive people.”

“You probably rekilled some really good Undead people.”

“Yeah.”

“Just yeah? So, Ben?”

Alex activated the Array.

“Alex?”

Ben's surprised voice came through like they were in a quiet room together.

“Ben.”

“Alex? You're here?”

“No. Wait, would that be a problem?”

There was a slight pause then a sigh.

“No. Not a problem. I just hadn't mentioned you to the Guilds, so if you turned up… unexpectedly, there might’ve been a few rather pointed questions. Maybe a stay overnight in a cell if someone didn't like your answers. Then there would've probably been a fire, some deaths, probably a whole lot of deaths if I'm honest and then you'd die.”

“Oh. Well,.. I'm on my Earth.”

“So you got a Comms Array, aren't you just a few weeks out from the Secondary Integration Point?”

“Secondary?”

There was another pause.

“A Secondary… a SIP happens when the first Adventurer on an Integrated world hits level 50. Which I'm guessing was you?”

“It was.”

“Of course you survived. Most don't.”

“Why?”

“Why? Because the person who initiates the SIP is usually responsible for a lot of deaths.”

“Oh, yeah. That definitely happened.”

“Of course it did. How close are you to 100?”

“15 levels.”

There was another pause.

“Ben?”

“Weren't you in the 50's when we fought?”

“I think so.”

“You think so? Do you have pictures of the System-”

“Ben?”

“Mother fu… the Elixir I was working on exploded.”

“Weird. No, I've just been lucky. Solo Levelling, clearing Multiversal Dungeons.”

“You solo levelled during the Initial Integration? Ballsy.”

“My Sponsor suggested it, before he was my Sponsor.”

“Of course he did. Anyway, what can I do for you?”

“Do you have a way to get here?”

“To your Earth?”

“Yes.”

“I do… why?”

“Want to kill some Kyrn?”

“The rat things? I mean, sure. They drop some Alchemical reagents and the Elites are good for experience. But why?”

“I accidentally declared War on their Faction.”

“You… how bad is it?”

“Bad? It's boring. I just got back from 39 and I need to clear some Kyrn on this side, then I'll probably go back.”

“Boring he says. How many are in your party?”

“Two? My companion, the professor and I. We killed a Legion on 39 and now we're-”

“You and your companion killed a Legion?”

“The professor doesn't fight, she's more tactical.”

“You. Killed. An. Entire. Legion?”

Ben sounded like he was articulating every word as carefully as possible.

Alex pulled up his titles and shared the most recent through the Array.

Legion Crusher Title:

Earned by single-handedly crushing an entire enemy Legion of 1000 soldiers, while in their own territory.

This title not only commemorates the audacity of a lone warrior, but grants a formidable stat boost. You gain a surge in Strength (+100) when assaulting over 100 enemies at the same time, turning each swing of the axe into a resounding statement that leaves everyone questioning, if 1000 doesnt get the job done, was Roboute right?

“Fair enough. Oh, you get the Warhammer references on your Earth as well. Nice. So, what's the plan?”

“I have to clear a few zones here and collect some items… ones I can't show you. For reasons. Then we can pop back to 39 and… I guess kill a lot of Kyrn.”

“For reasons? Part of me wants to know what that means, another part of me remembers that you tore a hole in a Multiverse Dungeon. To the Abyss.”

“That wasn't a great day for me.”

“Or me.”

“Still, the fight was fun.”

“The start was.”

There was another pause, which was shifting from awkward to companionable silence.

“Where are you?”

“Walking south along the Columbus.”

“That means absolutely nothing on my world. Do you trust me enough to share your location?”

Ben de'Vries has requested your location data

Share?

Yes/No

Alex didn't even hesitate, choosing to send the data straight away.

“People could accuse you of being to trusting Alex.”

“People die.”

Ben laughed unexpectedly.

“I'll ne honest, both statements have led to my success.”

It was Alex's turn to laugh, the sound shocking the professor so much that her jaw actually dropped and she could do nothing but stare at him as he smiled, untilvshe shook herself. Even Alex seemed surprised at himself.

“Till?”

Alex waved the professor down as the smile slowly slipped from his face.

“What now?”

“I activate a Portal Unit and we kill some Kyrn. With your location info I'll be right with you.”

“Can anyone get that?”

“Some Classes have Abilities or Skills that give them access to the info. Or you can pay a Broker for the information, but that is usually tied to a specific time, not live data.”

“Good-”

“Unless you have access to a Deity who is tied to hunting or tracking, they could give anyone the info.”

“Do the Chankas… the Onix Trono have a Deity like that?”

“Multiple. Honestly, I'm shocked you aren't fending off shit Adventurers all the time.”

With a sigh Alex shook his head but kept walking.

“See you when you get here.”

“I'll stock up on se supplies and pop over. Is there an Alchemist Guild on your Earth?”

“No idea. I don't really keep up with that. I can put you in touch with the Captain though.”

“Who?”

“My Faction Leader. He's into all that trade stuff. If there isn't then he would be the bloke to speak with.”

“Trade stuff…”

With that Ben ended the contact and Alex sped up.

“He makes you laugh like our Ben did.”

“It's weird… our Ben?”

“Slip of the tongue. This Earth's Ben.”

“Right. I'm finding it hard to separate this guy from my best mate. They're similar in almost every way. Meeting another Ben variant is going to be jarring.”

“Will you party up?”

Alex looked down at the river as it turned silvery, reflecting the rising moon. Lifting a hand as a breeze picked up he released a small amount of fire to his fingers and watched the fire dance. Sighing he pulled the fire back into his body.

“Probably, I need to get used to working with other people. Plus it will be interesting to see how it impacts my experience gains. Especially if we face another Legion.”

“Just be careful, he isn't… our Ben.”

Alex frowned but didn't respond.

“Till?”

Alex jumped slightly before looking at the professor.

“Sorry. I'm not used to-”

“Talking that much.”

Alex just nodded while inspecting his flame free hands.

“Till, it's fine. You only speak with me and the Captain. Just-”

“Remember that this Ben isn't our Ben.i know.”

The professor smiled then looked south.

“Push on or wait?”

“Push on. I need something to break up all this chatter.”

“Going to complain this time?”

“Nope. Let's just get it done before we have an audience.”

“A physical audience. There are always people watching us. Well, you. Not many can see me.”

Alex shuddered.

“Don't remind me. The fact that multiple-’

“Millions.”

“No. Really?”

The professor just shrugged and nodded.

“I just want to go on record saying, I'm really not ok with that. How are they watching?”

If you discover this tale on Amazon, be aware that it has been unlawfully taken from Royal Road. Please report it.

“Nanite Surveillance Drones.”

“Are you serious? Oh… now I see them.”

Alex looked off to the side and focussed on Eternal Equilibrium, shaking his head slightly as a different overlay seemed to slide over his HUD and seemed to fit over his eyes.

Reaching out he touched a cluster of the tiny Drones that were all connected by an ethereal golden filament that shot off in multiple directions.

Aegis Surveillance Nucleus #3729567847.795c

Part of the Project Aegis Surveillance Network

Letting himself fall deeper into Eternal Equilibrium he could see multiple clusters, or Surveillance Nuclei at seemingly random distances from him, all connected by the same golden thread… the Golden Weave. These then connected to major zone nodes at points in orbit, as well as relaying everything to the Operations Control Hubs in the Pachakama Multiversal Nexus.

“It's all connected.”

“Yes.”

“It's all Viracocha… no, it was Viracocha, now it's the System.”

“Yes.”

“How?”

“You can't see that?”

“No. I can't see past their creation.”

“He gave it all to the System, long before stepping back.”

“Did he create the System?”

“No. Well, not really. He created the Multiverse and the Multiverse created the System. So…”

The professor wiggled her hand around.

“Right. Anyway… we go off topic easily. Right. We were about to recover another piece-”

“Or pieces.”

“Of Regalia. Let's get that sorted before Ben arrives and we get sucked into a discussion on System esoterica.”

Thr professor fired off a pulse which resulted in Alex's Map pinging. Pulling it up he saw an are nearby had been highlighted, zooming in he saw a cartoon version of himself looking very confused while opening an empty chest.

“Hilarious.”

“Sorry. Serious faces.”

Running to the highlighted area Alex watched as the professor fired off several smaller and more talented pulses until the outline of a cavern in the ground was visible.

“Flame Manipulation.”

Alex stamped his right foot causing flames to flow from his body and disappear into the ground.

“That's new.”

“Not really. Eternal Equilibrium just gave me some insight into how I can use my Inner Fire and Flame Manipulation together. Right now some of that fire is helping with access.”

With that the fire bubbled up from the ground and returned to Alex, wrapping around his leg before sinking back into his body, momentarily taking up residence behind his eyes. Then the ground in front of them collapsed revelaing a set of smooth steps carved into rock leading down to the mouth of an exposed cave.

“I still prefer my method.”

Alex nodded and descended the steps before pausing reverently at the entrance while the professor descended through the ground until Alex could see the cavern lit up before him.

“I'll never get used to standing inside one of these. It's amazing to see the drawings and know we're this close to an actual Incan Scouting party.”

Alex reached out and touched one.if the drawings while shaking his head.

“Till, you've spoken with Incan gods and even met one in person. You're literally wearing Incan armour right now.”

“True. But this is the kind of site we would've killed for. Can you imagine if we'd stumbled on this before… you know?”

“Till, this is what I imagined every day. It only happened once.”

With a nod Alex moved to the first pillar site and knelt as he had before.

“Yaykuy.”

Alex waited without breathing as the ground liquefied and the first pillar rose from the dark depths pulling with it the scent of the ocean. Once the pillar settled in place he moved forwards, flanked by the glowing professor.

P'unchaw (Dusk), Viracocha's Right Bracer of Creation

Celestial Grade Jewellery

(Viracocha's Regalia of Creation 5/11)

(Viracocha's Bracers of Life 1/2)

A bracer infused with the Essence of Life, containing the blueprints of Creation

The Bracer is part of a Set

+50 Intellect

+50 Constitution

+50 Wisdom

Allows the Wearer to strategically mitigate incoming damage. If a single attack would have dealt more than 60% of the wearer's total health, the damage is halved. Alternatively, if facing multiple smaller threats, the wearer can invoke Defensive Resilience to reduce the damage of up to three attacks, each originally dealing less than 15% of the Wearer's health, to a fixed 5% each. This ability can be triggered once per battle, providing crucial survivability in the face of overwhelming assaults. Must be in contact with the Earth.

You are not a God

“Till, eqi-”

“I know.”

Alex waved a hand as equipped the Bracer.

The same bright white light appeared, this time bursting from both Bracers before slowly fading into the white of his Incan armour. The light seemed to flow around his jacket sleeves before forming against his skin shining white with constellations made of silver and gold. Unequipping his jacket revealed both Bracers. The original Bracer had been sleek and white, it had also extended up his forearm only stopping just short of his elbow. Both Bracers were now silver and the golden constellations stood out brilliantly on the field of silver. Additionally the constellations rotated, seemingly with a mind of their own, following a random path all over the metal.

Viracocha's Bracers of Life 2/2

Set Bonus Worldshaper's Embrace Activated

Worldshaper's Embrace:

Embedded with the essence of Life and Creation, Viracocha's Bracers of Life radiate an aura that stimulates the vitality of the environment. Life flourishes in their presence, causing plants to grow and creatures to be born anew.

The intricate code for every living being is woven within the Bracers, serving as a harmonious catalyst for the continuous cycle of life on all Earths

“That's convenient.”

“Lools like Earth 39 is back on the menu.”

“Wow… these are-”

“Godly.”

“Exactly. I see the System still delights in reminding me that I am intact, not a God.”

“You'll accept it eventually.”

“Eventually?”

“You're always surprised. Now, get the other item and let's get moving. The New Adventures of New Ben starts soon.”

Nodding Alex walked across the cavern and repeated the process, marvelling again as the ground beneath him changed and the pillar of stone emerged.

Huillacuna (Ancient Story), Viracocha's Aya Uma (Belt) of Creation

Celestial Grade Armour

(Viracocha's Regalia of Creation 6/11)

+100 Intellect

+100 Wisdom

The tale of the Coricancha has been intricately woven into this textile belt. It recounts in detail the tale of each High Deity in the Incan Pantheon, beautifully weaving their tales into each other, while incorporating natural elements from each Deities domain into their tales.

You are of insufficient level to wield the item

You are not a God

“That's different.”

“It's gorgeous. I've never seen a better example of Incan textile art.”

Level Up

You are now Level 86

Name: Alex Till

Level: 86

Strength: 503

Inner Fire: 322

Constitution: 252

After placing the 5 extra points in Constitution it went up to 257.

“We should keep moving before-”

“Alex? Are you in there?”

“Ben arrives. Be right out… of the cave. Professor, my life is very strange.”

“Why are you thinking of that now.”

“It just hit me hard. I'm in a cave where I just recovered two items that were worn by the God who created the Multiverse. On top of that, I'm the most powerful human in the world and I'm about to go and kill plant rats, to level up, with the Multiverse variant of my dead best mate. All while hanging out with an omniscient being that looks like my college Archaeology Professor. I mean, you have to admit, that's fucking weird.”

“Till!”

“Well, it is.”

“I'll allow that its unusual. In comparison to pre-Integration expectations.”

Alex walked up the steps, stamped once to release some of his Inner Fire to hide the Incan cavern.

“Ben.”

“Hey. What was that?”

Ben indicated the burning pit behind Alex was expanding resulting in dirt and debris filling in the hold Alex had made, all while avoiding increasing the temperature in the cavern.

“Pantheon Quest.”

“Ohhh, got it. Take your time. Some of my PQ's were crazy. Part of that was down to me not being able to talk about them at all.”

“Not just mine then. It's demanding.”

“The best ones are. Just wait till you get quests over Level 100. Did you play online games before your Integration?”

“No.”

“Based on the records from my Earth, Level 1 to 100 is similar to the tutorial zone in a game. After someone reaches Level 100 the Earth changed, again. You need to be ready for that.”

“Tutorial zo…”

Alex's eyes drifted to the side as Eternal Equilibrium kicked in, providing access to information he hadn't collected through his own experience. It was similar to when Maddy would plug in the external hard drive she kept her anime on.

“Oh. Low level Quests and monsters to level up new players. But the monsters aren't low level.”

“Not for you, you're the Planetary Forerunner. Until you hit 50 you pulled all naturally occurring high level monsters and quests to you. Like a magnet in the System. Hitting level 50 was… only Alchemy analogies come to mind… like installing a pressure valve. Some of that pressure was released to flow over the rest of your Earth-”

“That was how the System sped up Levelling, a catch up mechanic. So, my Earth has reverted to how it was before I got to level 50, just at a higher level. I'm pulling higher level quests and monsters to me and Level 100 is another pressure valve… oh.”

Ben chuckled darkly.

“Yeahhhh.”

“Level 100 rips everything out and we'll face everything. There won't be a restriction on spawn levels or quests.”

“Exactly. The ideal strategy, the opposite of what you've done… and the opposite of what happened on my Earth, is to alternate the Planetary Forerunner, but keep them just ahead of a large pack. So when someone hits level 50, there are hundreds of other Adventurers just about to level up to 50 as well. Then have the same thing happen at level 100.”

“That's happened twice.”

“How do you… Pantheon Ability?”

“Eternal Equilibrium.”

“I'm guessing that means yes?” Alex nodded. “You shouldn't have… add that to the list of things you shouldn't have and shouldn't be able to do before the TIP.”

“The TIP?”

“That isn't a common Multiversal term? Weird. Tertiary Integration Point. When the real fun starts. You really don't want to be here for that, they'll come for you, all of them will.”

“Why?”

“Come on Alex, you getting to level 100 will open your Earth up. Beasts that you wouldn't be able to deal with now will spawn near level low level Adventurers. I'm guessing level 50 led to a lot of deaths.”

“That want my faul-.”

Ben interrupted Alex before he could argue.

“Why?”

“Someone transferred a dead city with Elite Undead from their Earth to ours. Taking my city in return. A lot of people died because they weren't strong enough.”

“That's rough. But you were named right? As the Adventurer to hit level 50.”

“Yes.”

“So people in other cities, in other countries know your name. You're on the Leaderboard. So when their friends and family died you were the person they blamed. Now, imagine that happens again, but this time it doesn't slow down. That's their new normal. Their strongest people are dying. The only thing that's the same, you. The same person, the strongest person on Earth, reaching these major thresholds and smashing through them without thinking about anyone else.”

“But-”

Again Ben inteerupted Alex.

“I'm not trying to make you feel bad. You're doing what you need to do to survive. That's going to get people killed. This is the System, you only have two choices; get stronger or die weak. A lot of weaker people will die because you get stronger. So, you don't want to be here after you get to level 100.”

“OK… that's heavy.”

“It is. Want to kill stuff and get stronger?”

Alex looked at Ben who was smiling while looking at the river.

“Sounds like a plan.”

Flames appeared at Alex's shoulders then coiled down his arms like large fiery chains before sinking into his flesh. Then his jacket appeared, re-equipped from his Inventory.

“Those fiery chains are honestly terrifying…” Ben pulled his eyes away from where the chains had been then took a step back, “your eyes are made of fire. You're a scary mother fucker Alex. Are your flames are made of Celestial Fire?” Alex nodded. “Of course they are.”

“Not always, I need to focus on it…”

Ben watched as Alex's jacket was unequipped again then natural fire coursed across his chest and down his arms. The flames coalesced into the chains which glowed cherry red from the intense heat then shifted to the white-gold of Celestial Fire. Then the chains sunk back into Alex causing his Bracers to emerge and flames to appear across his shoulders and down his back. Stepping forward Ben pointed at one of the Bracers.

“Those are new.”

“Celestial Armour, or, the beginnings of it.”

“Celestial… how?”

Alex shrugged, a response he saw mirrored by the professor who Ben couldn't see.

“Alex, you shouldn't have Celestial Armour. You need to… I don't know how you can keep this quiet. You're obviously a Champion. You're… oh no. Viracocha.”

Alex opened his mouth to respond but Ben waved him down.

“No, don't say anything.”

Waving a hand in the air Ben looked to be navigating different System screens, then he stared off to the side like he was watching something.

“OK, no one can know… unless they have better access that me, which isnt likely. Except for Gods, but they'll already know. All of your Feeds show your Pantheon is the Coricancha… that's OK. Any mention of Viracocha by you or… the professor,” he looked at the area around Alex, “is removed by the System. People are speculating now about how and why your Celestial Fire has appeared. Is it new?”

Alex just nodded.

“OK, we can deal with this.”

Ben extended a hand, spun it to the left, then the right and a small vial appeared in his hand.

“Inventory?”

“Sort of, Alchemy Inventory, I can access my mats and…” he waved the hand holding the vial.”

“My profession doesn't have a crafting component.”

Ben flicked the stopper off the vial, caught it with his other hand then threw it at Alex's chest.

“What are you-”

“Just wait.”

Alex watched and waited, his Celestial Flames flared brightly then returned to how they'd looked previously.

“Nothing-”

“Good. Let's go.”

“What did you-”

“You don't want me to explain, the Earth has ears.”

“Should I be worr-”

“No.”

With that Ben turned and started jogging south beside the Colorado.

“What's the plan?”

“Keep following the river, clear monsters, find and kill Elites, complete my… PQ, then hop over to 39.”

“Easy. I'll just…”

Ben made the odd gesture with his hand again before two vials appeared, both contained liquid that was bubbling and spitting. He flicked the stopper off one and poured it over himself, wincing slightly then tossed the other over his shoulder to Alex.

“Is this-”

“Safe? Depends on what you consider safe.”

“What-”

“It's a lure. It's… consider it a pheromone. I tweaked it slightly so it'll only attract high level, preferably Elite or Rare Kyrn.”

Alex looked down at the aggressive liquid then back at Ben who had started running again.

“Just do it Till.”

Looking at the professor he nodded then fought with the stopper until it came off then poured it over his head.

“Alex, the System asked if I wanted to commit my Guilds, Faction and Pantheon to your War… I don't want to be rude, but I do want to be greedy, that xp Bonus is mad. Is there a way I can fight without committing to something that a lot of people wouldn't be keen on?”

Alex pulled up his War screen and after scanning through a number of sub-screens came to a Mercenary screen.

“This should be fun. Home Soil and Deity Champion xp bonuses!”

“Is that an impressive bonus?”

“Not exceptionally. The best I've had was a 50% increase. That was a combined Guild and Pantheon Quest and the party leader was in one of my Guilds and was the Champion of another Deity in the Di Consentes Pantheon. His bonus was slightly higher as the leader. That Quest was smaller though, we only had two targets. This… that's a lot of Kyrn. How are they all on my Map?”

“The professor tracks monsters.”

Ben's eyes went wide, then he turned to the professor and bowed to her, causing Alex's jaw to drop.

“You can see her?”

“Of course. Ever since-”

“I became the Party Leader. Eternal Equilibrium… it would be so much easier if I just knew everything. It's like having knowledge on demand, I just need to access it.”

“Shall we?”

“I just want to check…”

Alex reached out and touched Ben on the shoulder, releasing a tiny amount of fire. The both watched as the flame seemed to run up against a small shield stopping it from reaching the Chosen of Shadow.

“Good. I just wanted to make sure.”

Ben watched the fire sink back into Alex and nodded.

“You tank and I'll…” he waved a hand around erratically.

“Kill.”

“You get it.”

Ben started to step backward as shadows emerged from his body and coalesced around him into flexible plates of armour that seemed to absorb light. Eternal Equilibrium activated and a screen appeared showing that Ben's armour was made of Ventablack, a substance that “creates an effect where the perception of depth and surface features is greatly diminished, making objects appear two-dimensional or like voids”. Shaking his head to distract himself from the armour Alex watched as a dagger appeared in each hand, just like the last time he saw Ben equipped for battle they had silver hilts with glowing black blades. Ben's eyes shifted to a smoky black before a hood covered his head and obscured his features.

“This is eerily familiar.”

“Just don't tear a hole in reality this time.”

“Your armour is…”

“A gift from Nox.”

“I feel sick just looking at it.”

“That's the Abyss, Noxpulled some strings and this is what She came up with.”

With a shudder Alex nodded, his Bracers appeared, burning against his skin, then the flames coiled up his arms then over his chest.

“My fire, it's…”

“Normal. Not really, it just looks that way. You're welcome.”
