Exit The Necropolis - Completed Multiverse Dungeon Tower
Yes/No
Alex transitioned back to Lost Vegas and was instantly assaulted by concrete dust and smoke.
“Not the best homecoming?”
“At least the city is mostly standing.”
“Silver lining I guess.”
“What now?”
“We head back to the Captain, check in, then hit the road.”
“Archaeology?”
“Yes professor.”
“Oddly I’m not as excited as I was before my evolution.”
“Are you ok?”
The professor looked down at her ethereal form then nodded slowly before looking back at Alex.
“Yes. This is what I wanted, it’s just… being more is… a lot.”
Alex laughed softly then looked around the open area.
“Truer words have never been uttered.”
The professor increased the intensity of her gaze until it nearly felt like a physical force bearing down on him.
“What about you Till? That Tower, you experienced and learned a lot. More than anyone else on Earth 0.”
Alex shrugged, pulled up his map then struck out roughly in the direction of Station 2.
“Till…”
Alex flinched then looked back at the professor with a slight grimace.
“Sorry, I think I’m still processing. Not only have the Onix Trono kidnapped… godnapped Viracocha, but that has destabilised the divine power hierarchy which has given the Trono the ability to become the most powerful pantheon in the Multiverse. Then they’re using that instability to corrupt and overrun multiple Earth’s to prop up… shadow rulers which in turn funnels more faith and followers to the Trono. If they weren’t a bunch of pricks who actively hated me I’d be impressed.”
“It is an impressive plan. You know what it means right?”
Alex shuddered slightly then clenched his left fist summoning the fiery chains. He watched as they coiled around his arm then sunk back into his jacket then his flesh.
“I need to enter the UnderVerse, rescue a God, fight off countless minions of the Onix Trono and probably some other annoying fuckers, then get Viracocha back.
“And…”
“Complete The Quest.”
“And?”
Alex looked bewildered.
“What else?”
“Get to level 100, upgrade your Class while fighting off every Maddy and Ben variant that the Onix Trono can send in our direction.”
“Fuck…”
“Not how I would’ve put it, but yes. If you thought the last few weeks had been hard, it hasn’t.”
“You know I haven’t thought it was hard, the Dungeon’s have been, but out here-”
“Open world.”
“Right, the open world content has been, I kinda don’t want to say it.”
“Easy?”
“Basically. I’ve been pushed. Raklar was memorable.”
“You levelled quickly. The zone that you were in when the Integration started grew and meant that you could level without sharing Credits or Experience. Most would’ve hurried back to a city but you wanted to be alone.
Alex nodded slowly, still absorbing what ‘Crush’ had said before he stopped and looked over at the professor.
“I wasn’t alone, you’ve been with me from the start. At least since I received the Companion Cube.”
The professor smiled then looked ahead, pulsed once and seemed to shimmer as the pulse of light rushed away from her into the city.
“Low level Undead and some higher level Adventurers. Till, when was the last time you checked the Planetary Leaderboard?”
“Ages… why?”
“Adventurers, at least those here in Lost Vegas are catching up.
Alex pulled up the screen and scanned over it. The professor watched as his smile grew larger and larger.
“You’re happy about this? That they’re getting stronger?”
“Of course. Our Earth needs the support.”
“The stronger they get the more likely it is that the Trono will send them after you.”
Alex waved a hand to dismiss the worry.
“Let them. They’re scrambling.”

“Dave! What an absolute champ!”
“I’ll never understand your fascination with someone you’ve never met and more than likely never will.”
“He’s an underdog, fighting his way up the board. He was fourteenth at one point. I wonder what his class is.”
“Does it matter?”
“Not even a little bit, but I’m invested now.”
“I’ll never understand you, Till.”
Alex barked out a laugh and started jogging, quickly speeding up as he set a waypoint over the station house.
“You don’t want to professor.”
“Always with the edginess.”
Alex just shrugged and increased his speed again.
“At this point I’m thinking what you call ‘Edginess’ is actually just low Charisma. Something I think will never be fixed.”
The professor didn’t respond, mirroring Alex’s shrug as they sped through the city, Alex jumping over the remains of shattered and burnt out buildings while the professor just phased through the debris.
----------------------------------------
“Alex, good to see you in one piece.”
Alex looked around the Captain’s office before settling into the chair he’d occupied for the Integration.
“I… thanks Captain.”
“You cleared the Dungeon.”
Alex nodded slowly, unable to get comfortable.
“Only took one death.”
“One? You died?”
“It wasn’t a big deal, I came back. More importantly, you met Zargath?”
It was the Captain’s turn to look uncomfortable.
“I can’t believe you,” the Captain cleared his throat, “a Dragon!”
“Yea, he’s a good enough bloke.”
“Alex, he’s a fucking dragon.”
“Yip. Still a good bloke thought.”
“It doesn’t bother you?”
“That he’s a dragon”
The Captain just nodded.
“Why would it?”
“He’s not human?”
Alex looked over at the professor then back at the Captain.
“I don’t understand what the problem is. He can communicate, he hates Undead and he’s powerful. Who cares that he isn’t human?”
The Captain leaned back and ran a hand over his face, then stood up abruptly and walked over to the window that overlooked the rear of the station.
“When you put it like that… I don’t know. I’m used to everything trying to kill us so part of me expected a dragon to be worse.”
“Makes sense. Zargath’s all good though. Honestly-” Alex trailed off then shook his head. “I was going to give you a speech on racism and speciesism, but I can’t be bothered. Race and species don’t matter, all that matters is power and at the risk of making this theological, pantheon affiliation.”
“That’s surprisingly deep and not expected. You never really seemed interested in more than work.”
“I’m not.”
The Captain started laughing, then nodded before slowly dropping heavily into his seat.
“That’s more of the Alex I remember, uninterested. What’s your Charisma stat at?”
The Captain smiled as he spoke and Alex just shrugged as he opened his Attribute screen.
“21.”
“21? Are you serious?”
Alex shrugged again, then looked out the window and seemed to relax.
“I don’t really need to speak to many people.”
“True enough, are you going to stay?”
“You have Zargath and the rest of the Faction, this isn’t for me.”
“Till…”
“It’s not, you know that better than anyone, professor. If I stay here I’ll die, I’ll just waste away. I need to keep moving,”
The professor nodded slowly, but didn’t look happy about it.
“Alex, you know you have a place here, now or in the future. As long as I lead this Faction, you’ll always have a place.”
Alex just nodded then stood.
“Thanks Captain. I…” he looked out the window again and felt muscles unclench, “I have a Quest to complete and I’ve spent too much time in Lost Vegas.”
The Captain nodded slowly, stood again then came around his desk.
“Come back when you can.”
“Thanks Captain, oh, I have something for you.”
Faction Building Upgrade Token
This item allows the Faction Leader to improve a Faction Building allowing one of the following:
Faction Sponsorship
Faction Marketplace
Faction Guards
Faction Training Centre
Once one option has been selected the others can’t be accessed through a token, but can be purchased
This item can be traded but only to the Faction Leader
Initiate Trade with (Captain) Theodore Valian
Yes/No
Alex selected ‘Yes’ and traded the Token, the Captain breathed out sharply then staggered back against his desk, sitting against it as he pulled the Token out of his Inventory to look at it.
“This could make a huge difference.”
“Why’s that?”
“There are other factions, larger than ours, even if they aren’t as powerful scattered across the Earth. We’re the most powerful, for now, and the only in a city that doesn’t have the Experience Limiter, something that will attract a lot of Adventurers.”
“What will you choose?”
The Captain ran a calloused thumb over the Token, clearly deep in thought.
“Sponsorship or Guards.”
“Sponsorship.”
“Just like that?”
“You have a huge ancient guard flying around the city. Sponsorship could make a big difference. Support, advice, other stuff.”
“You make it sound like you’ve got a sponsor.”
“Two.”
“Of course you do.”
The Captain looked away for a moment then nodded slowly.
“Good suggestion. I have… two options. Opposites. One is military focussed and the other isn’t.”
The Captain waved a hand and a screen appeared in front of Alex.
Multiversal Commerce Consortium (MCC) - A trade focused Multiversal organisation that provides advice on economic strategies, resource management, faction development and market dynamics within the Multiverse. The MCC was founded by Faction leaders, Multiversal business leaders and wealthy Adventurers. They will provide advice on everything except topics related to combat
Warforged Command and Control (WCC) - A military advisory organisation founded by Warlords, generals and other military leaders who specialise in strategic faction based warfare, troop deployment, combat tactics and military led Faction advancement. They will provide advice only on military matters
“The option seems pretty clear to me.”
“The WCC?”
“The opposite.”
“Unexpected, but I appreciate that the second strongest member of my Faction isn’t blood thirsty.”
The author's narrative has been misappropriated; report any instances of this story on Amazon.
“Second?”
The Captain pointed over his shoulder, Alex looked through the window without comprehending his Faction Leader's meaning.
“The massive, ancient dragon you invited to join the-”
Alex waved a hand, silencing the professor’s voice but not her chuckling.
“Second strongest,” Alex grudgingly acquiesced. “For now.”
“I didn't expect you to come back from that Dungeon so… relaxed? Driven? Both?”
Alex sighed, walked back to his chair, sat down and leaned back, then shifted, leaned back again and grimaced before standing. He walked to the window and leaned back against the sill, instantly feeling himself relax. Muscles on his back he could've sworn didn't exist before the Integration unknotted and he sighed.
“Both. Or neither. I've never been good at this stuff.”
“Talking?”
Alex waved a hand then tilted his head to the side as if in thought.
“Yea. Talking. I was better with the professor, Ben and… I was better before the incident, I think?” Alex looked at the professor who shrugged. “After it, I've been like this with everyone.”
“Hence the Charisma issues. You could've fixed that. Hell, the stat points you get from a level would put you in a far better position.”
Alex shrugged and tilted his head back till it touched the glass of the window and for a moment, just a sliver of a moment a flash of soul destroying pain sliced through him. Gritting his teeth he forced the pain away, pushing it down, hoping the professor hadn't noticed anything.
“It's not just my Charisma, I’m just not good at people.”
“Till, he’s people.”
Alex forced a smile onto his face.
“Present company excluded. Of course.”
“Of course,” the Captain said with a smile. “You do make one thing easier. Next steps. But first, let’s lock in this sponsor.”
The Captain looked away and Alex watched his eyes move then with a short, sharp clap of two large calloused hands a screen popped up for Alex.

“Captain?”
The man, someone Alex knew to be the closest to unshakeable he had evet met had his mouth slightly open in shock. He even jumped slightly when Alex reached to to touch his elbow.
“Sorry. Yes? Alex?”
“Are you looking at the Faction Quests?”
“Quests? No. I was, it doesn't matter, that can wait. Quests? The only Quest was your… oh.”
Alex watched as the Captain’s eyes tracked something he couldn't see. As Alex watched the Captain’s got bigger and bigger until-
“Yes,” the man said shakily.
The Clark County Resistance has taken control of The Lost Vegas Strip
The Clark County Resistance has taken control of the STRAT Dungeon Tower
The Clark County Resistance has taken control of Lost Vegas
The Clark County Resistance has Increased to A Rank
Faction: Clark County Resistance
Faction Level: 2
Faction Rank: A
Faction Headquarters: Station House 2
Faction Territory: Lost Vegas (Faction Owned)
Faction Sponsor: Multiversal Commerce Consortium (MCC)
“Holy shit…” Alex breathed.
“Agreed. That was a lot. Looks like you're the third strongest in the Faction now.”
“You levelled up as well?”
“A lot. I wasn't even in that world's most powerful list… now I'm at the top.”
Alex smiled then started to laugh causing both the professor and Captain to look at him.
“Now everyone will blame you if anything bad happens! Which means I can slip out of town quietly.”
The Captain looked at Alex then frowned.
Name: (Captain) Theodore Valian
Race: Human (Earth 0)
Class: Landed Knight
Title: Captain, Land Owner, Faction Leader
Faction: Clark County Resistance
Faction Level: 2
Faction Rank: A
Faction Headquarters: Station House 2
Level: 60
“Last time I Scanned you, you were level 19.”
“I went up a bit since then, now much. But those quests, becoming the Leader of Lost Vegas… that gave me 30 levels and a Class Upgrade Token that will give me the level 20 Upgrade and the level 50 one. I also have a comms request from the MCC, our Sponsor. This is happening very quickly.”
The Captain disappeared leaving Alex completely confused.
“Till? Are you ok?”
Alex nodded slowly then smiled.
“I'm great. Now I have another reason to get stronger. Completing those Quests… I can actually help, even more if I'm out there, doing stuff, tracing the Scouts,.completing The Quest, visiting other Earths. I'm…” Alex smiled again and a small chuckle slipped out, “I'm excited.”
“So you aren't angry?”
“Angry?”
“That the Captain levelled up because of things you did?”
“No? He's the Faction Leader and my Captain. Plus, he's kind of the reason I'm stronger than everyone else. Plus he'll need to be strong, he's holding this fucked city together. Him and Zargath.”
“That's… mature of you. Also, don't swear.”
The professor reached out and slapped Alex round the back of the head.
“Hey! Don't-”
Alex broke off as the Captain returned through a portal of smoke to the sound of clanging hammers.
“Sorry Alex. I trust nothing happened while I was away?”
“Away? You've been gone for a couple of minutes.”
“Interesting, Heph said time functioned differently in his realm, but I wasn't sure.”
“Heph?”
The Captain looked confused, looked around his office with a slight frown.
“Hmmm? Oh, Hephaestus.”
“The Greek God?”
“Yes.”
The Captain didn't seem to be paying attention as he pulled a small Token from his Inventory. Running a thumb over it the Token disappeared and was replaced by a screen that appeared for Alex.
The Clark County Resistance has acquired a Multiverse Trade Hall
“That's better.”
“Captain, what's happening?”
The Station Captain turned Faction Leader turned highest level Earth 0 human turned City Ruler turned to Alex with a smile.
“Sorry Alex, that was a lot. I met with the MCC, their patron deity is Hephaestus, the Greek, let's be honest, and Roman God of a whole forgeload of stuff. Tradies, fire and volcanoes, big fan of yours by the way-”
“Tradies?”
“He's not what you'd expect. Something to do with not being a regular guest of the main Pantheon, the Olympians. He's a good bloke, I met with him and the MCC, they suggested the Trade Hall and a lot of other stuff then I went with Heph to his realm which is a massive cave filled with automated forges and computer equipment. He did something to my Class Upgrade Token and invited me to choose my Pantheon and he became my specific God.”
“What Class are you?”
“You didn't Scan me? Alex, you need to start doing that more, the Scan Ability will Upgrade and become Identify.”
Name: (Captain) Theodore Valian
Race: Human (Earth 0)
Class: Hephaestian Forge Knight
Title: Captain, Land Owner, Faction Leader, Chosen of Hephaestus, Lord of Lost Vegas
Faction: Clark County Resistance (Leader)
Faction Level: 2
Faction Rank: A
Faction Headquarters: Station House 2
Sponsor: Multiversal Commerce Consortium (MCC)
Pantheon: Olympians
Deity: Hephaestus
Level: 60
“Hephaestian Forge Knight?”
The Captain waved a hand and shared his Class information to Alex.
Empowered by the Greek God Hephaestus
The Hephaestian Forge Knight represents the fusion of martial might and expert craftsmanship. As leaders, they elevate the economic and trading skills of those within their domain, while steadfastly safeguarding allies. Renowned for their prowess in combat, they shield comrades and amplify their fire-based Skill and Abilities.
These knights stand as symbols of strength and guidance, revered for their forging, trading and leadership capabilities. Their divine blessings ignite fervour, instilling determination and fostering prosperity among their allies. Blending leadership, protection, and artisanal skills, they fortify both commerce and defence, earning unwavering loyalty from those seeking their guidance.
“Wow. The level 50 Upgrade, with a Deity involved is impressive. The level 100 one must be terrifying.”
“Pantheon’s can’t directly influence a freshly Integrated Earth but they can aid in the Upgrading of a Class. Your Pantheon is the Coricancha, who…?”
“Incan Pantheon.”
“Interesting. But your Deity doesn’t show under your Details.”
Alex pulled up his Detail screen then shrugged.
“Proably because the God that named me as his Chosen was… godnapped by a rival Pantheon. His name is Viracocha.”
The Captain nodded slowly.
“What’s your plan now?”
“Get out of town, follow the Colorado, we have a Quest. Get to level 100. A few other things I can’t talk about. Get Viracocha back.”
“I have a Quest for you.”
With another wave of his hand the Captain caused a screen to pop up for Alex.
Faction Quest
Make contact with three other Factions
Initiate trade or diplomatic relations with Factions for Lost Vegas
“Am I really the right person for this? You know I’m not good at people.”
The Captain laughed then shrugged.
“That’s why I made it a Quest, without that you’d talk to the professor, which is fine, and only her. You need to talk to more people from Earth 0. Hell, you should talk to people from every Earth you can.”
“No pressure.”
“Oh there is definitely pressure. You’re officially The Clark County Resistance Ambassador. You now get experience for diplomacy, forging alliances, trade routes and the like. Basically for talking without your axe.”
The professor started laughing as soon as she saw Alex’s face.
“This is perfect,” she said.
“Shut up,” Alex said, looking in the direction of his companion then with a shudder he nodded. “Fine. Adding experience to it was a good move, I probably wouldn’t have bothered otherwise.”
“I’ve known you for a while Alex. You better not come back with Charisma still sitting at 21.”
“Yes Captain.”
With a sigh Alex slumped into his chair.
The Forge Knight smiled at Alex then looked off to the side.
“Heph… hmmm, Heph likes to back an underdog, I don't know what that says about me and the Resistance, but he's also a fan of your Wiraqucha-”
“Viracocha.”
“Yes. Heph said he's a fan of anyone who can make ‘shit that lasts’.” The Captain's face split in a toothy grin. “For a God, Heph talks like a bloke who's eight beers to the wind with no sign of stopping. Apparently your Viracocha made the Earth's that house System run world's. Not a bad effort. Shit that lasts indeed. Anyway, with him AFK, hold on, oh, Away From Kingdom, that's a deity term for one that isn't actively working, interesting. Because Viracocha can't actively support you, Heph will offer you a Boon.”
“A Boon?”
“In this instance a fire based Upgrade to one of your Abilities. Which from what he can see… is all of them?”
“Comes with the Class.”
“Fire Warrior, of course. No wonder he's a fan. Some Volcanic Abilities as well. I'm starting to think Heph pulled me into the fold just to have access to you.” With a frown the Captain’s eyes slipped to the side before he smiled again. “Nope, he knew you had a deity in your corner, just didn't know who. Says he won't ‘fuck with another God’s forge’. Eloquent.”
“What strings are attached to this Boon?”
The Captain looked off to the side and seemed to be having an intense non-verbal conversation.
“Right. The only string is you need to support the Resistance. Heph has invested a fair amount into us, something I didn't know, he outbid multiple other deities to be the Resistance’s patron God. Good to know. But, your continued support is a requirement. Sorry Alex.”
Alex shrugged.
“I'm not going to get bent out of shape for the expectation that I’ll continue to do what I've been doing and what I want to do. The System wants me to get stronger, it's not like I'm angry at it-” the professor cleared her throat loudly. “Shush you! That's… I'm… That's different! Anyway, my plan before being offered a Boon wad to get stronger and support the Resistance, even if it's from a distance. Getting something to help me do that… I call that bonus. Now, what is it?”
The Captain looked off to the side again then nodded before holding out his right hand palm up, with a release of smoke, followed by small jets of fire and the clanging of hammers a small item appeared nestled in his palm.
“Fascinating. Identify.”
The Captain waved his enhanced item description over to Alex before tossing the item over.

Alex caught the belt and reverently ran the tip of a finger of finger over the dragon scales, feeling the heat and power contained within.

“Wow. Now that's a belt!”
“Till! Thank the Captain and Hephaestus!”
“Oh yeah, thanks Captain and, thank Heph for me will you?”
The Captain laughed softly looking from Alex towards where he thought the professor was.
“Helps to have someone to remind you about manners and the like.”
Alex started to apologise but the Captain waved his words away, leaving Alex half expecting to see a screen pop up.
“That wasn't an insult Alex, far from it. We all have our burdens. You don't need to change, I definitely don't expect it. You need her though,” he nodded in what he thought was the professor's general direction, receiving a snort from the woman who was sitting behind the Captain. “We all need someone to ground us. Keep her close.”
Alex nodded then moved to the door, then stopped, looked down at the ground and seemed to be deep in thought. Suddenly he turned back to the Captain and extended a hand.
“Thank you, Captain. For everything.”
Alex made eye contact and squeezed the Faction Leader’s hand in gratitude before releasing it and leaving a surprised Captain Valian alone in his office to work out how to run a city from a tiny office in a repurposed Station House. With a sigh the Captain shook his hand out, grimacing slightly then sat down at his desk.
“Right, what's the plan Heph?” The Captain paused then looked shocked. “What do you mean you're on smoko and it's tools down? What? Fine. Talk to you then.”
The Captain sagged slightly, the magnitude of the challenge stacked up against him standing out against the rapidly darkening sky. Standing he walked to the window and clearly made out Alex walking across the rear of the compound. With the changing light the Captain thought he caught the shimmering outline of a woman walking beside the young fire-fighter turned apocalyptic Fire Warrior.
“Stay safe, Alex,” he said to the empty room, “stay safe.”
The figure with Alex seemed to turn and look back at him and the Captain raised a hand before heading back to his desk.
Alex jumped over the fence behind the Station and headed South-East towards the Colorado. Pulling up his details screen he stumbled when he saw some additional information.

"I didn't think you were angry."
"I'm not. I'm excited. The Captain will level up from things that everyone in the Faction does, included Zargath, me and himself. The connection to the MCC and Heph will help a lot. Dave's catching up as well. This is finally getting interesting."
"Interesting?"
"For ages it was just me killing stuff and everyone else ages behind, now... now it's a competition."
Alex threw the new points into their respective Attributes and smiled as the new strength coursed through his body.
“Levelling time.”
