Alex and the professor walked through the wall on the far side of the tower and walked out the wall on the other side, a floor up.
"Portals are weird."
The professor just smiled.
"I'm not used to you walking…" Alex looked down then stopped. "Wait, you aren't actually walking."
"I am, I just don't need to use the ground."
"Archaeology Companions that look like my old professor are weird."
"Deal with it."
"I willllll." Alex stretched the word out as he looked around the floor. "Do you see anyone?"

The far wall flickered again and a tall well dressed man walked through.
"This isn't what I expected."
"Shush Till, just wait."
The man at the other end of the floor looked up and saw them and smiled, showing far too many teeth.
Alex lifted a hand and waved.
"He-"
"Welcome Adventurer, welcome. Excuse me for a moment, I'm just cleaning up."
He waved a hand and a small portal opened revealing what looked to be a tap and basin, the man proceeded to roll up his sleeves and wash a purple fluid from his hands. Alex and the professor watched as he meticulously scrubbed his nails, ensuring they were surgically clean. He then dried them with a hand towel. With another wave of his hand the portal snapped shut and the man turned back.
"Apologies. It's always the way, visitors arrive just as you are tidying up."
"Ah, sorry."
"No, no. Nothing for you to be sorry for Mr Till. Welcome to the third floor."
"Thank you."
Name: Dr Paul Solomon
Floor 3 Boss*
Race: Human (Earth 51)
Class: Necro-Psychologist
Title: Necrologist, Psychologist, Emotional Manipulator
Core Pantheon: ERROR Church of Morris
Level: 122
"Ah, what's a Necro-Psychologist?"
Dr Paul flashed his large smile again and his voice got a little huskier.
"I'm glad you asked. Please, sit. Let's talk."
Alex watched as the doctor waved a hand and two wing back chairs, a rug and a small table appeared in the middle of the room.
"That's handy."
Alex and the doctor sat facing each other. Alex looked confused, the doctor looked excited.
"Till… this is-"
"I know."
"Fascinating! Are you speaking with your Companion?"
"You can't see her?"
"No. Most unfortunate. I can on the feed, but in person… most unfortunate."
"The feed?"
"I believe you've talked about it before? As a newly Integrated world you're top viewing on other Earths. Mine included."
"I am?"
"Well, yes. As the highest level you do get a lot of attention. But I meant your Earth. Other Adventurers are more popular due to their particular storylines. Some Adventurers have been contacted by, let's call them benefactors, in an attempt to influence story development. You actually met one of them."
"Olivia? The Synthmage?"
"Precisely. She was part of an interesting story. No matter. Your story fascinates me Alex. I feel like I already know you."
"It does?"
"Very, very much. The emotions… your raw delicious emotions."
The doctor smiled again then locked his lips.
"You're Floor Boss?"
The doctor waved a hand.
"Let's not worry about that for now. I want to talk, to learn and to encourage your emotions."
"Encourage my… I really don't want that."
"You might not, Mr Till, but I do. I want to feel what you feel, then I want you to feel everything."
"What does a Necro-Psychologist do?"
The doctor leaned back and displayed all his teeth in another mouth stretching smile.
"We take the emotions from our… patients and study them."
"Till…"
"Yea, that sounds like something I really don't want."
"Thankfully you're on my floor in a dungeon that has been thoughtfully curated by my God."
"This idiot Morris?"
"In this instance, no. While I'm part of the Church of Morris, that is more of a means to an end. Morris supplies my less than willing test subjects, he in turn is supplied with everything he needs by the Onix Trono."
Alex went still, the fire in his eyes flickered as shock rolled over him.
"The Chanka's."
"Precisely."
"Why?"
"Why would a vampiric Pantheon devoted to fear, death and dominance act as a silent patron to Morris?"
"That and your, or their, interest in me."
The doctor burst out laughing.
"You? They don't care about you, or rather, they didn't. In isolation your nothing, an insignificant spot on the back of nothing-"
"Thanks."
"As I was saying, you're nothing. However, the Incan's were interested in your Earth, it seems Viracocha hid items of power here. Their conquest of Earth 51 was a perfect path that allowed them to divert interest to your world. Just as they did on Earth 39 through the Kyrn."
"The Chanka are interested in items left behind by Viracocha? What does that have to do with me?"
"You're the only inhabitant on this rock that has attracted the interest of the Golden Temple."
"Why not find Viracocha and get the information from him."
The doctor smiled again and this time it was more predatory.
"They did."
"He's dead?"
"Deities of Viracocha's power level don't die, but they can be… contained."
"Where?"
"You have the quest don't you?"
Alex didn't reply.
"No matter, as I said, you aren't important, but you can send a message."
"What message?"
"That the Chanka's can get to any agent of the Golden Temple, even in a Dungeon."
"You came here for me? You weren't here already?"
"Fool. That idiot Shawn was placed on the floor below so we would know when you'd arrive. Then I just slipped in and killed some of Morris' minions and took the place of the Floor Boss."
"I still don't understand why you've gone to all this effort? Why not attack me outside the Dungeon?"
"You don't know? I guess that is to be expected." The doctor released a gusty sigh and leaned back in his chair. "You're an overachiever, so it was obvious you would attempt to clear this Dungeon to remove the experience limiter. It was a stretch to think you'd attempt it on Multiverse difficulty. Multiverse Dungeons can be accessed from every Earth so I just had to wait, then using my access through the Church of Morris I entered, killed the trash and…"
Alex looked at the doctor then back at the professor.
"Access through the Church of Morris."
"Multiverse Dungeons are loving entities, Morris has purchased the Minion Contract to supply the creatures. It makes sense that he, and his Church, would have access to replenish their numbers. Like Vance in the last Dungeon, they was how he was able to be present."
Alex nodded and looked back at the doctor who was staring behind him.
"Your Companion?"
Alex just nodded.
"Fascinating. I expected to see it-"
"Her."
The doctor waved a hand then leaned forward.
"So, how do you want to do this?"
"This?"
The doctor released another sigh.
"How do you want to die? Do you want to be useful and contribute to science, or, actually, your body can be brought back so either way you contribute."
"Lovely. I'd rather go out fighting."
The doctor burst out laughing.
"Fighting? Mr Till, Alex, I'm 70 levels higher than you. Why fight?"
"Why? This is what I do."
"Pointless. You asked what a Necro-Psychologist does. I take emotions and use them. You will suffer."
"How Chankan of you. I collected a sword and shield that remind me of you."
"Malevolence and Suffering?"
"Yes, the feed again? One of the Kyrn dropped them."
"Their bonuses are similar to my Abilities."
"Are they Chankan?"
"No. So the Buff you have won't protect you."
"It was worth asking."
"Indeed."
Alex watched as the doctor stood then was forced to stand as with a wave of his hand the furniture and rig was returned to the doctors Inventory. Alex withdrew his axe and watched the man in front of him.
"Be careful Till. I don't know what he can do."
"Neither do I. But we need to get past him."
"It's that simple."
"It's always that simple."
"Kill or die."
"Kill or die, professor."
Alex's eyes burned as he faced the Necro-Psychologist.
"Dissonance, Dark Decline, Untenable."
Alex's eyes kept burning as he looked down at his body, then at his axe.
"Did something happen, professor?"
"No. How odd. He definitely used Abilities."
Alex lifted his axe and walked forwards. For the first time the doctor didn't look like he was in control.
"How? Stop!"
Alex paused, looking back over his shoulder.
"Any suggestions?"
"Check your Combat Log."
Alex pulled up the Log and looked over it, as he read his shock increased.
Doctor Paul Solomon (Level 122) attacked you with:
Dissonance III: Targets vividly relive their most haunting experiences. Inducing profound distress, inflicting severe emotional trauma, debilitation, and incapacitation.
They will relive each excruciating detail to its conclusion.
This attack cannot be dodged, parried or blocked.
Party members of your target will be forced to relive the primary target's memory if they attempt to intervene, if no party members are present the initial attack will hit twice.
This Ability can be used in conjunction with others.
Despair's Embrace IV: Enhances the psychological impact of Dissonance. When used together, the target's self-loathing, guilt, and susceptibility to negative emotions is greatly intensified. This amplification lasts until the target dies.
This attack cannot be dodged, parried or blocked.
Untenable II: Synergizes with Despair's Embrace. When triggered together, targets are deeper into the depths of their negative emotions. This causes them to succumb entirely, making them more vulnerable and prone to irrational actions, amplifying the psychological distress inflicted by Dissonance and Despair's Embrace.
This attack cannot be dodged, parried or blocked.
"That's just messed up."
"Till, why aren't you affected?"
"Oh, that's nothing. I do that to myself every day, I have since Maddy and Ben died. I guess I've built up a tolerance, or everything this doctor can do doesn't equal what I do to myself."
"Till…"
"I just feel bad for anyone who isn't consumed by self-loathing, guilt and everything else."
"How…?"
Alex and the professor turned back to the Necro-Psychologist.
"No one else has been able to resist your Abilities?"
"Resist? No, no, no. That's impossible. No! But that means…" The Necro-Psychologist's eyes went wide and he started to sweat. "No, don't, don't make me. Not again."
Alex and the professor watched as Dr Paul Solomon first fell to his knees, then collapsed to the ground shaking.
"Professor?"
Unauthorized duplication: this tale has been taken without consent. Report sightings.
"I…-"
The doctor started screaming while clawing and scratching at his body.
"This looks like Ability, or Skill, Inevitability. I've read papers on it. Vance actually wrote one. The power contained in every Ability or Skill can't enter the world with no destination. Typically Abilities and Skills that malfunction simply diffuse in the form of elemental energy. In other situation, this being an example, the power is reflected back on the one who originally used the Skill or Ability."
"Bloody hell… he's going to tear his skin off."
The Companions watched transfixed as the Ability ramped up, enhancing itself like Alex's fire damage compounded upon itself. Eventually Alex couldn't take it anymore and he swung down with his axe, splitting the doctor's head in half.
"Till! Come on. That's worse. His head…"
"I couldn't watch anymore. Let's go."
"Till, you're immune to emotional attacks."
"Not even close, it just takes a lot more than what he could do to effect me. Professor, I hate myself, every day is a constant reminder as to why… every, single, day. Nothing this prick could do would ever make that worse."
"Till…"
"It's fine, let's keep going."

Alex cut himself off as a new list of Abilities popped up in his HUD.
"I was going to tell you to wait. Activating Tomes in a Dungeon, specifically a Multiverse Dungeon creates Abilities that will aid you in your specific environment."
Inferno Surge - Channel volcanic energy from within allowing you to unleash a torrent of searing flames and igneous projectiles at high-level adversaries. This fiery onslaught not only deals substantial damage but also ignites enemies, causing damage over time. The intensity of Inferno Surge escalates with the enemy's level, turning the battlefield into a blazing inferno. Mastery of this ability involves precise timing and positioning to capitalise on its devastating potential.
Stacks with Smouldering Embers
Molten Fortress - Transform into an elemental juggernaut. Encase yourself in a protective shell of igneous rock and lava, reducing incoming damage and gaining temporary immunity to ranged attacks. Attacks against higher-level enemies become even more potent, your very presence radiates intense heat, searing through enemy defences and dealing bonus damage.
While in the Molten Fortress all footsteps will leave a trail of Smouldering Embers that will slowly expand.
Fleeting Buff: Juggernaut
While encased in the Molten Fortress any attacks made at speed inflict both fire and crushing damage and leave an ongoing damage over time on targets that ramps up depending on the number of enemies that have been hit by the attack.
Chains of Woe is usable in this form
This Ability replaces Infernal Armour
Pyroportal Strike - Wield the fury of both fire and interdimensional portals. When activated, rifts to a fiery dimension are opened, calling forth destructive projectiles. Higher level foes struck with these charged attacks take greatly increased damage. Additionally, if the initial target is defeated within a short window, the summoned portals implode, dealing area damage to surrounding foes.
"Damage to higher level enemies seems to be the constant theme."
"That and fire or lava."
Alex spun to look at his Companion.
"How did I miss that? Thanks professor. Any suggestions?"
"I have no records of any of these Abilities. Inferno Surge and Pyroportal Strike offer a ranged option that you don't currently possess. While Molten Fortress enhances your only defensive Ability and gives it offensive capabilities."
"An accurate summation."
"Agreed."
"Do you have a suggestion?"
"Vance referred to Abilities improving, he was also very excited about the Ability Symbiosis. While the other two are interesting, I think the biggest increase to your efficacy would be Molten Fortress."
"But… a fire portal gun."
"Then there is the fire portal gun."
"Fiiiine. I'll take the elemental juggernaut Ability. That Buff, it should make things interesting."
"I'd like to know if Volcanic Fury II will enhance it."
"Same. "

"I didn't expect to get a new Ability for a while."
"If there was ever a place to get one, a Multiverse Dungeon that dramatically outlevels you would be the place."
"You really don't like that I'm here, do you?"
"I'm just concerned. While it appears that the System hasn't been hacked, this Morris has a high level of access to this Dungeon, while we're in here. That concerns me. Also, we're only three floors in and you're fighting level 122's. This is a lot, Till."

"We're going to race the Dungeon aren't we, Till?"
Alex nodded quickly then started laughing.
"Oh hell yes!"
Alex walked forwards, the professor drift walked beside him, neither paused as they moved into the portal and emerged on the other side.
----------------------------------------
"Oh my god."
"That's a lot of… creatures."
"Can you tell what they are?"
The professor released a pulse of ight that flowed over the large area.
"This doesn't look like the previous floors."
"What makes you say that? The large open area with no walls or a ceiling?"
Alex grumbled to himself as he looked around. The area looked like a large section of cracked rock roughly the size of the field at the new Allegiant Stadium. The ground however was completely different. It was unstable with numerous hairline cracks running in every direction. More than likely a little different to how the field at the new home of the Raiders was looking right now. The ground however was completely different. Though the ground looked different, it was completely unstable with numerous hairline cracks running in every direction. Probably a little different to how the field at the new home of the Raiders was looking right now.
"You should be able to Scan them now, Till."
With a nod Alex looked back at the large mass of creatures.
Necro Drone Horde (Level 85) x 350
Unlike the other creatures created by Morris, the Necro Drone Horde possesses a hive mind. One Hive consists of 250 Drones and 1 Drone Master.
Drones must stay within range of each other and need to feed regularly or they will consume each other for sustenance. Every lost Done increases all damage done by remaining Drones in the area. If one Drone remains it will call forth its Master, sacrifice itself and empower the Drone Master with the cumulative damage increase from the fallen Drones. Empowered Drone Masters are virtually unstoppable.
"New plan, don't let the Drone Master power up."
"Good plan."
Hefting his axe Alex considered his options then smiled.
"Oh no."
Alex's smile didn't slip but he turned to face the professor.
"What?"
"That smile worries me."
"Noooo, it'll be fine."
Then Alex started to laugh and the fire in his eyes burned brighter.
"I don't even know what you're going to do, but I know it's going to be completely mad."
"Mad in a good way?"
"No. Mad in a, ‘past the border into a psychosis’, kind of way."
"That just seems hurtful."
"Carry on Till. Let's watch your crazy flow."
Alex just shrugged then looked back at the Drones.
"Blazing Hurl!"
He threw the axe with all his might, it blazed a trail of fire through the cluster creatures before embedded itself in the rock close to the far wall. For a few moments nothing moved, Alex critically judged his throw while the creatures felt the deaths of part of their collective then as one they turned to look at their attacker.
"That was creepy."
The Drone Horde started running in his direction.
"Volcanic Fury! I'm so ready for this! Molten Fortress!"
Alex seemed to be burning from within, then chunks of rock tore from the ground and glowed with the fury of a falling star before they shot at Alex, covering his body. He could move, but he wasn't as agile as he was without the armour.
Alex started to run, spread his arms wide as his speed shop up like he’d been fired from a massive cannon. Then just kept increasing all while leaving Smouldering Embers in his wake.
"Holy shitttt."
He slammed into the mass of Drones, their bodies hit the Fortress of stone and lava and either splattered like water balloons filled with viscous purple fluid or fell to the sides like broken toys. The fallen but still living Drone’s spread Alex's Embers further, chains spread from them to Drones that were still out of range. The increased fire damage combined with Molten Fortress's enhanced damage to higher levelled enemies didn’t seem fair. He blasted through their numbers, the only sound he heard was a shrill buzzing as he stood on the last broken Drone.
Necro Horde Drone has Summoned Drone Master
Alex didn’t stop as a large creature appeared out of the portal at the far end. It was nearly three times the size of him in his Fortress. Pulling his arms together he dove, clenched his left fist then went through the chitinous exoskeleton of the Drone Master. Then, rather anticlimactically he jerked to a halt inside the creature.
“Till?”
“Yes professor.”
“Was this part of the ‘my eyes are burning so I must kill everything’ plan?”
The volcanic axe tore into the side of the creature and slammed, hilt first, into Alex’s massive rock covered fist. The heat of the Fortress combined with the Volcanic Resonance caused the Drone Master to cook from the inside. Large chunks of flesh sloughed off the creature and fell to the ground smoking. Before Alex had a chance to reply the creature fell apart like a slow cooked roast and he emerged, coated in cooked Drone Master.
“Of course. Holy shit that was fun. Do you think I can ask Morris to reset it? I want to do it again.”
“I don’t think Morris would oblige you. Especially after…”
The professor waved a hand that encompassed the cooked Drone Master and the burning or exploded Drone Horde.
“You’re probably right.
Looking down at the Drone Master he scanned it.
Necro Drone Master (Level 100) x 1
Unlike the other creatures created by Morris, the Necro Drone Master possesses the ability to be empowered by its fallen brethren. Even more unusually the last Drone in it’s Hive will sacrifice itself to provide the Master with the cumulative attack abilities of the entire Hive. This creates a creature of immense power. This isn’t the final form of this hulking creature, if three Empowered Drone Masters can, at the end of their lives, enhance each other, creating a Corvus Drone Master. A creature with the ability to command multiple Hives.
Interestingly this is where the core components for a Corvus communication device are looted from.

"I better get some speed run awards, S-Grade is the top right? Maybe you can get a… replay option? I'd like to watch what happened, like a ESPN highlight reel. Or, maybe a repeat floor token, is that a thing?"
"Yes Till, You won. But i don't think ESPN has the rights to Multiverse Dungeons, that contract is owned by MDFI. Lastly, no. There is no repeat floor button. However, if you survive a Dungeon and you give it enough time to recover you can repeat the Dungeon again. With a Dungeon like this you'll get basic loot on each floor, then a loot chest at the end. Unless it's a special floor like this one. Each time. Unless Morris has done something."
"Having met a couple of that guy's mates, it wouldn't shock me of he's don't some kind of weird jiggery fuckery with the loot."
"Jiggery fuckery?"
"Yip. Anyway, let's check out the Speed Run awards."
Alex and the professor walked towards the exit portal but branched off to the side where a small chest had appeared on a convenient rock mound.
"It's pretty small…"
"Remember how big a Nexus Cube is?"
"Point taken."
Alex reached out and pressed a palm against the unusually warm metal that made up the chest, which liquefied and flowed up his arm.

"Yes."
Looking down he saw what was left. A pile of S-Grade Credits and a few other items.
"Interesting. What do we have here?"
The first item looked like a glowing credit card. Alex reached out and touched it.

This item allows the wielder to respawn, returning to 25% health in the Dungeon entrance area
This item can only be used once
"Useful…"
Looking at the next item, a band of steel with an unusual pattern running through it, and reached out again.
You have looted:
Weapon Tier Upgrade Token
This item will allow you to permanently upgrade the tier of one weapon by one level
This item can only be used once
“Very useful! That’s an instant use.”
“Not a bad idea.”
Looking down Alex reached out for the last item, a small metallic triangle.
You have looted:
Faction Building Upgrade Token
This item allows the Faction Leader to improve a Faction Building allowing on of the following:
Faction Sponsorship
Faction Marketplace
Faction Guards
Faction Training Centre
Once one option has been selected the others can’t be accessed through a token, but can’t be purchased
This item can be traded but only to the Faction Leader
“Nice. That’ll help the Captain.”
“Not you?”
“I guess. I won’t be in Lost Vegas for long though.”
“You don’t want to stay?”
“Too much to do. I need to kill all the Kyrn, return that Jadon guy's body and find… that stuff. I also want to track the Incan Scouting Party’s journey.”
“Makes sense. I think I’ll join you.”
Alex laughed and looked to his side where the professor was sitting in an ethereal chair.
“Is that my chair? The one I looted from… bloody hell, that Shawn guy?”
“It was your chair. It reminds me of the one I had in my… the other professor had in her office.”
“It was your office as well.”
“I guess it is now. Did I tell you she died?”
Alex staggered and had to sit down.
“The professor…Professor Ladere? She’s dead? How?”
“I’m sorry Till. I know you two were close.”
“Professor. I’ll be ok, will you?”
“It’s unusual, until it happened I felt like I was living someone else's life, now, now I feel like I’m living my own life but from behind a curtain.”
“We’ll get you upgraded. I thought, maybe, part of me wanted to introduce you to her.”
“Till, I already know her.”
“I know, but… I dunno, not since the System.”
“Since you made me.”
“That's not, I don’t, you… I guess.”
