Xane met up with his group as if nothing was wrong. Lyenn was laughing the entire way back. And then half the way back to the village. Calrin had asked if he had found anything and he told a half truth. “Yeah, just a statue of some worm thing. It had a really powerful aura around it. Don’t know what it was all about but nothing else was there.” Calrin just nodded but Xane could tell he was disappointed in Xane. He has to know I’m hiding something. There was nothing he could do though Lyenn had to be kept secret. As well as that dance.
Calrin decided that they would stay to help rebuild for another few days. That turned into a week as the kind villagers begged them to stay for an upcoming event. It was a beautiful sight to behold where Wantags Sight did a huge burst of mana causing the water in the lake to glow in a multicolored lightshow. Xane wanted to see that and too begged Calrin to stay. What really got Calrin’s attention is when Xane promised to try to strengthen the buildings.
It was a lot easier than Xane had thought. He only did the mess hall since it was the village's most defensive place. The book talked about large enchantments called macro enchantments. It consumed a lot more mana but was similar to smaller enchantments. To do it it did take 2 potions and 10 hours of constant enchanting but in the end was worth it. The building could take one of Xane’s bullets with only a small dent. Its already mana rich wood due to the mana coursing out of Wantag also helped allowing the wood to be more susceptible to enchanting.
Doing so also gained him what he needed for another level in enchanting. At 25 he was supposed to get a perk. Perks were similar to skills but couldn’t be leveled. They were usually more powerful base though. And another every 25 levels. And with doing the building he did, a prompt appearing.
Congratulations! You have hit your first milestone in your profession, Enchanter. You may choose a perk.
Perks:
Micro Expert: Micro enchantments you create are 35% stronger.
Macro Expert: Macro enchantments you create are 35% stronger
Elemental Expert: Elemental enchantments you create are 50% stronger
Dual Enchantment: You can more easily put two enchantments on an object
Learn 2 random enchantments: Learn two random enchantments of lesser quality that you don’t already know.
Xane thought them over but already knew what he was going to choose. Being stuck between just micro and macro or elemental seemed to be a dumb idea. Xane liked the idea of being able to do what ever he needed. That is where dual enchantments came in. No matter what he was doing, having two enchantments was the better option than a boost to a single style of enchanting. Now the last one of learning two random enchantments was interesting. However he felt wasting his perk option on that was a waste. Money could buy most things and enchantments was one of them. If he wanted he could destroy his rapier to have a chance of learning its enchantment. He wasn’t going to do that though it was still a really good weapon.
With little more deliberation he chose dual enchanting.
One of the better things of runesmithing was that you can have up to 3 runes on an object that could fit them at base. And he heard it can go up to 5 at level 25 if he chose that option. Xane only knew 2 sadly the knowledge of runes and enchantments was too heavily guarded. Again though he believed lots of money would solve that.
Xane thought about also adding the protection enchantment to the building but didn’t think he could do it. Even though the perk said he could, Xane got the feeling that it would be too hard for his level. A smaller micro enchantment would be more doable.
He was pulled from his thoughts as Garry, his snake gave him a look. It said “I want to hunt.” Xane didn’t want him to get killed but believed that he should be fine. Xane waved him off and the snake slid through the forest off to eat something.
Xane went back to boringly making more and more lights and fire starters. Before the event started he got his runesmithing to level 14. Everyone had their own lights. He also did the dance every day. He felt though that it didn’t budge an inch but knew that apprentice ranks took much longer than novice.
The day of the event the villagers were excited. Calrin still wanted to head back and get paid. And try to set up a dungeon appointment for Xane. Even though Xane would love to do a dungeon the villagers kept saying it would be worth it and that's all they would say. For a split second Xane thought maybe they were going to sacrifice them to some lake deity. But he had been hanging with them for a week and didn’t see it.

Xane and the group followed the excited villagers. They carried makeshift chairs, pillows and blankets. Xane was carrying a large bowl of sliced fruits. “They really know how to throw a party.” He said to Calrin who was holding a keg of something Xane didn’t know.
“Yeah. They should have lead with fruits and alcohol. I wouldn’t have argued then.”
It was a long trip to the lake taking an hour of walking. They also promised that none of the creatures in the night would harm them. That they too were waiting for the event to happen and that it was some sacred thing. Rok the leader also had them promise to not share what they were about to see. He said that only this village usually partook in the event not telling another soul.
This fact gave Xane goosebumps. The good kind. He was as excited as the villagers. When they arrived they saw a flood of creatures all just sitting around the lake as if waiting. Xane saw young wolves playing with weird fish creatures that had legs. He saw groups of birds resting in the trees that scattered around the lake. And many other different creatures that he had a hard time figuring out. Xane would have inspected them but some creatures knew when they were being looked at and Xane didn’t want to disrupt the peace. The true reason definitely wasn’t that he didn’t want to deal with the stupid prompts for a dozen different creatures. He wouldn’t be so petty.
The humans and elves all took a spot that was within 30ft of the pack of wolves. The wolves just looked over and turned away disinterested. The villagers too looked to have no care in the world.
Calrin on the other hand looked mortified to be this close to so many possibly dangers creatures. “Maybe the fruits and alcohol aren't enough. Huntress, you think we should just leave?”
Before she or Hatchet could answer, Rok spoke up, having snuck up on the four,”Trust me you are safe. We have never been attacked here before. I’ve only been to 6 of these but our eldests have been coming for up to 50 years. It is well worth it. You’ll see why.”
Xane believed he could trust them and sat down taking out a chair he had stored away and a thick blanket. “You mean you could have taken all this.” Rok said, holding out one of the heavy tables he had been lugging around with 3 others. Xane just said sorry and shrugged sheepishly. He kinda forgot he was trying to hide his ring in the excitement.
The tables were placed. And food laid out. Xane took out the few chairs he had for people, even the remaining bed for some kids to sit atop. All cozy they awaited for the event to occur.
While waiting some curious creatures came over to where the humanoids were. The villagers seemed to not mind at all, apparently bringing extra food for them. The kids boldly walked up to the wolves and other creatures tossing bits of rabbit and fruits. The animals gladly took part in the offerings just leaving back to their own area afterwards.
Xane’s heart wasn’t racing but was much quicker than usual. After nothing happened he loosened up. He saw both Calrin and Huntress held their hands near their weapons.
All tensed muscles seemed to melt away as Wantags Sight glowed. Then it pulsed in a bluish green color. That wall of force moved towards the group. All too shocked or mesmerized by it to react. The water refracted the light and created a kaleidoscope of colors. It was so beautiful.
That wasn’t the end. The water sprayed into the air multiple rainbows being birthed from the lake. Showering all near giving an odd sense of refreshment and healing.
That wasn’t the end. Above clouds condensed into darker and darker clouds. Rain droplets fell from the sky refracting more light. One stray thought was able to form in his mind other than oohs and ahhs. Was there an epilepsy warning?
That wasn’t the end. A bolt of lightning struck the water. Xane thought the other creatures and some humans that were in the water were about to be zapped like the crocs. However, it was centralized. It also turned multicolored as it smaller arcs of electricity sparked through the water and rain droplets.
This went on for what felt like hours and what felt like minutes. The danger and beauty of it all exhilarating yet calming. He didn’t want it to end. Yet all things must end. As quickly as it started the spectacle ended. The lighting ran its course. The clouds dispersed. And the waters calmed all light disappearing as if none were ever there.
In pitch black Xane thought he might have gone blind. The moon and starlight slowly took over the region again. Xane noticed a notification and read it over.
You have witnessed something beautiful. Something grand. Something only few actually see. You have witnessed Wantags Rainbow and felt its power. Reap the rewards.
Congratulations! You have gained a new feat.
Wantags Rainbow: Witness the Rainbow feel the Rainbow.
+3 to all stats.
This is an upgradable feat.
Xane now knew why they were so adamant of showing them. It was a free feat. And an upgradable one. Then Xane thought it over. Rok said the eldest had seen it 50 times. That meant if it gave 3 every time the person would have gotten 150 to all stats. That didn’t make sense. It had to have a cap at some point. Or at least diminishing returns. Xane asked Rok about it. “Yes sadly it does give less and less each time. To the point where multiple events are needed for just 1 stat boost. That doesn’t start occurring until after the 10th go. Giving 30 points. The only problem is doing it every year. And also there is a year every 4 that it just doesn’t happen on. We don't know why. You are lucky that it was last year. We hope you return next year. And preferable more often than that.” He said this with a smile. “Now rest we are safe for a day. No killing happens for at least a day after.”
Xane was oddly tired. He pulled out his tent an let it set itself up. He curled up and went to sleep.
