"Fireball and Ice Spear?" Xiao replied as he contained his excitement.
"Yup, These two magics belong to the attack spell category. I think it will come in handy for you since you're a soldier," Lily replied.
"It sure will!" Xiao strongly agrees with Lily.
Xiao was gripping his fist tightly, and his face was grinning the whole time as he waited for Lily to organize her thoughts on how to teach him.
Lily silently nodded her head after a while. She begins to explain:
"The common magic element that most people have is either Fire or Ice. Before I go into details, you do know the four basic magic elements, right?"
"Yeah, I think it's Fire, Ice, Earth and Lightning, right? And I remember there's also the two rare magic elements, Light and Dark," Xiao vaguely answered, these were all the things Lars taught him.
(Guess that's all the magic lesson I had learned from Lars. Not a single spell was learned from him.)
"That's correct, glad to know that you had already got the basics covered. That's right, and we'll be finding out the magic element you are compatible with. Fireball for Fire element and Ice Spear for Ice element," Lily explained.
Lily proceeds to teach Xiao about the concept of casting a spell, how they need to have a strong desire of what they want to cast the magic they wish to. They need to call upon the spirits surrounding them for the element in exchange for their mana.
Xiao took a longer time to understand as he was unfamiliar with most of the words Lily was using during her explanation, as he was initially not from this world.
Lily was not only patient with Xiao continually clarifying things and asking questions, but she was delightful as she answered all of Xiao's questions. She smiles happily as she replies to Xiao's questions.
And after a lengthy question and answer session, Xiao finally understands the concept of it, at least, in his own way.
"Now, we'll start with Fireball. It's the basic spell for the Fire element, let's see whether you're compatible with it or not," said Lily, who then proceeds to teach Xiao the incantation for the spell.
After Xiao memorizes it, Lily nodded her head and proceeded to the next phase.
"Alright, it would be better if I demonstrate it to you. Please excuse me." Lily instructed Xiao to make some space as she was going to cast her magic. "Alright, I'll be casting now." Lily shuts her eyes. She took a deep breath and entered a concentrated state.
Xiao's expectations rose, his eyes were wide open, his palm was sweating, all his attention was on Lily.
"O Spirit of Auro, lend me thy strength of fire, Fireball."
Lily chanted, followed by hot air forming on her palm, and almost instantly, turned into a ball of flame.

"And done, Fireball," Lily opened her eyes, checked her magic result and smiled proudly.
"Whoa!" Xiao was over the top excited because what happened in front of him can only be found in a video game. And now, he is going to do it himself.
"Alright, your turn," Lily canceled her Fireball and instructed Xiao to try it.
"Okay! Damn, this is getting exciting," Xiao was already heated up with excitement.
Xiao took a few breaths to calm down, he took out his right hand and closed his eyes.
"Just relax and do exactly what I taught you, and then you'll be using magic in no time," Lily encouraged him at the side. She too was anticipating Xiao's magic as she grips her fist tightly.
(Imagine something hot, something burning, like a bonfire, or like the sun. Then feel the air surrounding us, feel the element floating around us. )
"O Spirit of Auro, lend me the power of fire, Fireball!"
Xiao chanted the incantation full of passion. In an instant, Xiao felt a surge of energy flowing to him, followed by something warm forming on his palm.
(I did it! Can't believe that I nailed it in the first try.)
Xiao slowly opens his eyes to see the result of his magic.
"What's.....this?" Xiao was shocked upon seeing his magic.
Instead of a ball of flame shown by Lily, he got a bunch of droplet-like fire that stuck on his fingertips. It was nowhere near a Fireball.
"Umm...Lily, does this mean I failed?" Xiao turned to Lily with worry on his face.
Lily was showing a troubled expression as she was still processing what had just happened.
"Well.....the spell you have cast, it's called Fire Seed," Lily answered as she tried to stay as calm as possible.
"Fire Seed? Did I do something wrong?" confused with what Lily had said, Xiao, pressed on with his question.
"You did not do anything wrong. It's just....hmm...." Lily, too, was still confused, because she did not expect Xiao's magic would turn out this way.
After a moment, as Lily was still not convinced with the answer she had thought of, she instructs Xiao to move on to the next phase first.
"I think we should try out Ice element magic next. I might need more observation to see what's going on."
"Alright, got it," Xiao answered, though he had a lot to ask, he decided to follow Lily's instructions first.
Lily proceeds to cast the Ice element magic, Ice Spear.
Just like the spell name, it was an Ice spear that formed on Lily's palm, simple and straightforward magic like the Fireball.
But, when it was Xiao's turn, he ended up casting a bunch of Ice droplets that sticks on his fingertips, instead of an Ice Spear.
"What the hell?! Again?" shocked by getting the same result, Xiao didn't hide his worry as he shouted out.
Xiao looks at Lily once more, confused than before, hoping Lily would explain to him.
Lily, on the other hand, nodded in silence as she had already known the problem.
"You did not do anything wrong, Xiao. The spell incantation, the procedure, everything you did was exactly how I had taught you," Lily assured Xiao in a calm tone.
Xiao nodded his head. He waited patiently on what Lily's going to say next.
"The spell you had just cast is called Ice Seed, and early on is the Fire Seed. These two spells belong to the foundation form of the Fire Element and Ice Element. Mostly used in alchemy or constructing items," Lily explained.
"I see, but I thought I'm casting Fireball and Ice Spear, why did I end up with something entirely different?" Xiao asked.
Upon hearing Xiao's feedback, Lily stays silent for a while. She took a deep breath to prepare for the next thing she is going to say.
"Please don't be angry, okay?"
Xiao nodded his head in agreement, gulping nervously as to what Lily's going to say.
"It means your mana volume is too low," said Lily, without looking straight into Xiao's eyes.
