"You know you don't have to." Kate told her.
"I know, but I want to." Amara replied.
Kate frowned, took a deep breath, then replied. "I can't deny you that right" She seemed pained as she considered it. "I can't come with you, there's rules about captors speaking to prisoners of war."
"That's okay, I wouldn't have put this on you anyways." Amara replied, taking Kate aback.
"You're very mature for your age." Kate told her.
"Thanks to you and the coalition." Amara said, smiling.
"Could another one come with me?" Amara asked. "Another augment I mean?"
It quickly occurred to Kate that she'd never heard Amara say the word "augment" before.
"I'm sure one of the others wouldn't mind." Kate replied, crossing her legs in the cheap plastic chair.
"Who's the scariest one?" Amara asked, stunning Kate yet again.
Kate laughed, but chose to answer honestly. "I think that would have to be Bravo Four, his name is Kugler." She said.
If you discover this tale on Amazon, be aware that it has been unlawfully taken from Royal Road. Please report it.
"Him, I ant it to be him." Amara said softly, suddenly serious.
"I'll see what I can do." Kate said, smiling as Amara stared into her lap.
"What is it that you do?" Amara asked. "I asked my tutors a while ago, but they just gave me weird answers." She seemed sad.
"Well." Kate paused. "I, or, we, primarily go after threats of world peace." Kate explained. "Think of it like cutting a thread on a piece of fabric to release tension."
"Is that what you were doing when you brought me here?" She asked.
Kate swallowed thickly. "Yes." She chose not to elaborate.
Amara nodded, appearing to take the hint, seeming pleased. "Thank you."
---
"She wants me?" Kugler asked, his voice it's usual gravel.
Kate nodded, then chuckled. "She says she wants someone scary."
Kugler squinted at her, and turned his head. "I'm not that scary." He said. "Terror would be a better fit."
Kate shrugged while he paused, considering it.
"Sure." Kugler said, relieving her.
"She's trusting me with one she considers her own" Kugler thought.
"Have you told Anton?" He asked. She shook her head, seeming reluctant.
"I'll tell him when he gets back."
Kugler nodded. "For what it's worth, I agree, it's better to tell him in person." He told her.
She found herself thankful for his opinion, even if he was just confirming hers.
"So when will this happen?"
---
Amara looked up to Kugler with a smile, his amber faceplate was completely polarized, obscuring his expression.
her eyes came to lay on the ejector of his flamethrower.
"So you're Kugler?" She asked, seeming unphased by his appearance.
Brave girl.
"I am." The same voice of gravel and scorn replied.
"thank you for doing this." Amara said.
"No problem, little one." He said. "So, shall we?" He asked.
Amara nodded, and Kugler pushed a button on the wall, and the wall slid upwards.
The last time I saw him.....
