Anomaly Among the System: Chapter 5; Slimes and unnecessary meeting

While CF, Merlon and I had an important discussion of what to name our new pet, a green and brown mimic slime, we came across a few more of them, but they had different colors.

I of course only wanted one pet, so I just killed them. Well kind of, I fully ate the slimes that I didn't find interesting and ate half of the body of the slimes I found interesting and I then put them on top of my head along with the first slime. Not gonna lie, the colors do make them taste different.

So far the Mimic Slimes I have met are a green and gray slime, it can turn itself into a boulder, and tries to crush me. It was pretty easy to dodge as there were trees everywhere. When I subdued it, I took a bite out of the slime. I made sure I did not bite the core in the middle, so it could still be alive, according to my game knowledge from other slimes i've seen in games.

Next up is a green and purple slime, this slime was unique as it can split itself into smaller versions of itself, regenerate its lost size and it can turn itself into potion vials, the potions it threw had various effects, one made me paralyzed, another made me temporarily blind, and the most interesting one that was thrown at me was a hallucinogen effect, but it wore off quickly because of my ability. But sadly the rest of the potions it threw at me were just poisonous liquids that either become liquid or gas. I have to constantly take a bite out of this slime to not let it get away.

The last mimic slime that I encountered that was at least interesting was a transparent white and dark orange slime. Not only was its color different, the object it mimicked was not the only interesting thing. It shapeshifted into a white flexible metal rod with orange at the ends of the rod, and somehow was able to shoot out magic. Like from a fireball to a water stream, to somehow shooting lightning bolts out of the met bar. This was my first time needing to actually subdue a slime fast, since it's painful to get hit by magic attacks and my adapting resilient ability is making the pain worse as it's constantly switching between adaptations of elements that the slime shoots out, and making my whole body itchy and painful

Good thing, it doesn't regenerate its body easily, unlike the green and purple slime.

There were some mimic slimes that I ran into that weren't that useful, dangerous or unique. Some were either cooking utensils but weren't very sharp, gardening tools, one was mimicked into some sort of boar. I was deciding to keep it, but I decided to eat the entire slime instead, plus I didn't have enough room for my head.

Then suddenly Merlon had a good name for my first slime that I captured.

"How about… syrup?" Merlon softly says it, tired of blurting out names.

"Hmm…" I then think about it before agreeing.

"Ya sure, we can name our little green and brown slime, syrup,"

CF and Merlon sigh of relief of now finally being done.

"Since you're the one who came up with the name, you should be the one that should name it," I then put down the green and purple slime and grabbed the green and brown slime.

"Wait, but I am not even there and I don't think we even qualify being here," Merlon stops midway to going towards the slime.

"Well you kind of are? You exist 20%, so I think it will register." Merlon then goes silent for a bit before continuing moving towards the slime.

"You majestic slimy friend will now be called syrup, because of your color and texture looking similar to maple syrup,"

As Merlon gives the slime a name, it starts to glow for a few seconds before it disappears.

"Oh what the! Nooo syrup, you were my 3rd favorite slime," while I felt a sudden big tingle in my head, before recovering and noticing the purple slime had finished regenerating and needing me to take another bite out of it.

"Don't worry, syrup just went into my Companion menu. I just got a notification stating that I tamed my first creature on my first try, pretty neat" Merlon then gives the system panel to me to see what he meant.

"Oh wow, you could maybe become a tamer," I then chuckle a bit but Merlon shakes his camera saying no.

"Eh don't wanna do that, I prefer using my own body to obliterate my enemies not use other creatures bodies to obliterate my enemies.

"Oh right forgot, you flipping battle maniac," I then look at CF and he immediately refuses.

"You know I prefer to build stuff and sneak to my enemies right? I mean my job is literally building stuff but online,"

"Alright, alright, I get it. Power of ideas and information, that's your thing," I then look at my green and purple slime and it seems to be afraid of me now.

"You know, I'm starting to feel bad now. Although they taste bland, they are still living creatures. I'll just name the other 3 quickly so they can also be in my companion menu, but you guys are gonna need to sort them out since I don't have access to the system," both of them nod and they stared at the slimes.

"Alright uh, since you remind me a alchemist and a scientist and also being purple, and reminding of a resource from a game I used to play, you will be called Elixir, but Elix for short," the slime then disappears and I felt a slight tingle in my head.

"I see the slime and also I received a notification that you intimidated a slime to submission causing it to allow itself to be tamed, pretty cool, I'll sort it into your main slot so it will be the first one to come out," I then felt a slight tingle within my body, rather than my head.

"Alright then, and how do I do that?" I then grab the green and gray slime on top of my head and hold it out, while it crumbles on my hands.

"According to the system, just say its name and either point physically at the location or think of the location of where to summon it," CF reads out the instructions.

"Oh, sounds simple enough," and I carefully put the crumbled mimic slime onto my left hand and pointed at the ground.

"Elixir," then the slime just pops into existence, no dramatic entrance, just gets summoned, and also felt a headache when I did so, and as usual I ignored it.

"Oh, that was disappointing. Well at least I got a new physical friend," I then walk towards the slime, but it slowly slides away from me.

"Ah right, Elix is still traumatized by the fact that I kept eating them. Well I'll improve our friendship later, gotta name the rest of the slime," I then leave Elix alone, and focus on my crumble fella.

"You're gonna be named Roxcy, basically just combined Rocky and Rox, I am so smart," Roxcy then disappears and at the same feels proud of myself for coming up with a genius name. But my friends were definitely disappointed in me.

Ahem, clearing my throat, while I grab the transparent white and dark orange slime "Anyways, lastly my favorite slime, I am gonna call you Bonk, because you transform into a magical metal stick and can be used as a magic staff and a normal day wracking staff," Bonk let out a small grumble before disappearing.

"I think he didn't like the name or was disappointed by the chosen name," Merlon commented.

"Probably, I don't think many creatures would like to be called Bonk," I then went back to walking towards my destination, while I heard Elix quietly following me around 20-40 ft away.

While I continue to walk, CF needs to log off as it's already night time, but the PC stays on as it seems that it can't actually be turned off.

Unlawfully taken from Royal Road, this story should be reported if seen on Amazon.

A few minutes after CF went to sleep on the couch as he needs to get to work, Merlon also decided to go to sleep as well, even though he will just stay awake on his phone for another 4 hours before actually sleeping. Now I just have two floating cameras that are silently following me.

I am now left alone with Elix. I try to improve my relationship with them, but I fail horribly. I then decided to summon the other two slimes but I couldn't, which was strange, but I didn't think about it too much.

I then continued to interact with the Elix to pass the time of walking silently. When I tried to pick up Elix again, they threw a potion at me. It wasn't a poison potion, but it was something that made my eyes get irritated for a couple of seconds, equivalent to cutting onions, at least it wasn't a poison potion.

Out of boredom, I try to experiment to see if I have enough magic to conjure a spell. My body feels a burning but cool sensation when I think of myself absorbing mana, like what every main character does when they get transmigrated and trying to figure out how to use magic and mana on their own.

Of course with my adapting ability, it helped out with me being able to sense mana, well I think it's mana but there's a chance it's something completely different.

I then try to conjure some magic, using different methods that I remember when playing games and reading novels. Of course they did not work, I don't even know any techniques or even spell names.

I gave up on that real quick, as I am not making progress and I don't really need magic right now just using my own body as a weapon.

Another couple of minutes have gone by, and I am already irritated. Walking for 25 minutes straight in silence while my only companions and friends are either sleeping or too scared to talk to me. I then decided to speed up this boring walk and instead started to sprint.

I grabbed Elix quickly, while they scrambled out of my arms in panic, and I prepared to start sprinting.

For a few seconds it was pretty normal, like my usual sprinting speed, and starting to immediately be tired. That didn't last long as my ability immediately upgraded my body to be able to run faster, and longer.

I can definitely feel my body changing, I can feel my lower half of body changing shape, it was kind of painful but I think my pain receptors are starting to disappear within my body, strange that I can still remember that.

It feels like I am going even faster and even more adrenaline is being pumped into my body, every second I am running. Of course the wind resistance is not helping, but I push onwards.

After running for only 1 minute while at the same frantically dodging the trees, my body suddenly felt heavier and my body got bigger by a few inches, I then realize that my body is telling me to ram into the trees, or well I think so, but I can definitely break through the trees now, while also gaining more speed.

I then see the end of the forest on the horizon, strangely though there's some sort of white transparent bubble. While I was deciding what to do, I already went through it, I guess there was nothing to worry about as I continued to sprint in this new landscape, which is just a very large green plain with very long grass, and I mean very long!

Despite my size going back to my original height, the grass is 1/3 as tall as me, or at least 2ft tall. Why the hell is the grass so tall? What kind of creatures are here?

While I pondered, my speed suddenly started to disappear, now making me go back to my original speed, but I am slightly faster. I am also very tired now, and feel that my stomach and my lower body feels like crap, almost like having a large amount of adrenaline pumped constantly in my body for around 10-15 minutes straight will put me in a long period of pain.

It actually took awhile for me to go back to normal rather than just feeling better all of sudden for after a couple of seconds, at the time I was wondering why my ability suddenly stopped making me fast, and that it made me camouflage into the grass, well my skin did but not my uniform, which remained the same color, same for Elix still being purple and also splattered and squashed on my hands while I was running, guess I didn't fully pay attention to how much force I was putting on them, but they were fine.

But it still doesn't explain why my speed was traded off for being slow and stealthy.

I of course found out, after I noticed a small flock of birds landed on the grass while I was moving through the grass, and out of nowhere a fast moving green creature snatched a couple of the birds perched on the grass. It was quite terrifying and I realized that despite my ability, there was no way I was outrunning that thing which explains the sudden change.

While silently moving through the field, I noticed that the sun was setting down, which could only mean that even more dangerous creatures and animals will start to appear.

I quickly hastened my way through the field, while still maintaining the same direction I needed to go. I don't really know how close or far I am to the nearest town, city or any civilization really.

—————Meanwhile somewhere in the field———

My party has started to make a camp in the Stalkfields, as nighttime is about to arrive. 4 of my teammates are quickly assembling the camp while Sera and I defend looking out for any creatures to ambush us and attack the team.

"Do you sense any creatures near us?" I call out to Sera as she is scanning around for any creatures starting to approach us, while I cautiously have my shield and sword up.

"Nothing so far Torin, my Scanning spell isn't picking up any hostile creatures near us in a 500 ft radius," while she has an attack spell conjured up just Incase.

"Alright good," I then made a quick look back at my other 4 teammates constructing the camp. " You guys are almost done there? Starting to get hungry here,"

"We are almost done sir! We are finishing up building the tents and our food is currently being cooked," Corwin shouts out while casting a small fire magic into the sealed campfire. While Cali casts spatial magic to bring out meat onto the campfire. At the same time Jerric and Ellaric hastily and smoothly set up the tents competing with each other to see who can build the three tents they were assigned to set up the quickest which of course leads to another tie.

"Ha ha! I definitely finished first this time," Elleric proudly says.

"Pff, you just got an advantage as I am wearing a suit of armor, while you are basically just wearing lightweight clothing and a scarf!" Jerric sprouts angrily before calming down and sitting near the campfire and giving a handshake to his twin brother.

"Cali don't forget to cast wind magic around the campfire to make sure the smell and the smoke don't go out, we don't want to make the same mistake again from our last mission," Sera reminds her, and Cali giving a thumbs up as she quickly makes a bubble around the campfire.

"Ok, I think the coast is clear, Sera make sure to cast an Alarm spell and the Search spell active before you come here and eat," I then put my sword and shield away on my side and at my back before sitting down near the campfire while I see Sera conjures an alarm and search spell and walk towards the campfire right after.

"Alright! I think the food is firmly cooked up, dig in everyone," Ric tells the group and starts to happily eat while Cali gives everyone a drink at the same time.

We enjoyed our meal while we had a conversation about the mission we are doing.

"So, what was the mission again Torin? I know we have to hunt some creatures that only come out at the afternoon and at night," Ellaric talks while devouring the meat

"We have to hunt 4 Verdant Sprintclaws, which as you know are very dangerous and annoying to find and kill," I calmly reminded Ellaric while enjoying my meal and drink.

"Oh those things? Ugh… I hate them as it's hard for me to locate and hit one using my crossbow," Jerric becomes frustrated and annoyed while chewing on his food.

"At least we aren't hunting mimic slimes right now, those things are annoying and difficult to defeat…" Cali quietly says while enjoying her food.

"Speaking of mimic slimes, I heard that the guild master has assigned a quest to all adventures to hunt down any mimic slimes we come across and also help out on defeating the leader of the mimic slimes," I then speak up, while enjoying my drink.

Everyone in the team looks at me with a surprised look.

"Wait, what? I didn't hear anything about that while we were in the building!" Ellaric stands up quickly while also making sure his drink didn't spill.

"It was assigned to every adventure and I was able to hear the guild master say it to everyone, while you guys were outside waiting for me, the location is at Gelacreep Marsh," I then put the empty container into the fire, and I then stood up.

"So, after we deal with this mission and collected our reward we gonna head straight towards the location,"

Everyone in the team sighs or is frustrated by the fact that we have to deal with mimic slimes. Their expressions stay like this for a while finishing up the meal, and preparing for the current quest we are about to do.

"Alright team, get yourself ready quick we are gonna start hunting for some Verdants—," I get cut off by Sera, alarming us of 4 Verdants appearing near our camp and getting closer to us quickly.

"Everyone! Get into our usual position and prepare for battle, looks like we don't need to search for them!" everyone then quickly gets ready for battle.

————Oxaminite's POV————

Huh, I guess these cheetah creatures aren't that tough. Well I mean they look like ambush type predators, so they are bound to be fairly weak but goddamn they are strong and fast! The only few things that caught my attention was that its claws and fangs were glowing faint yellow and purple and the fact it's way bigger than I thought. If I know anything about colors in nature and games, is that if that was going to hit me I would get electrocuted and poisoned. Although I would experience the effects briefly, that's enough for this thing to shred me to pieces.

One of them seemed to have noticed my presence and tried to ambush me, of course my ability was already activated before it even attacked me, so I also knew in advance that one spotted me.

With my quick reaction time, I knocked out the green animal and dragged it across the ground while I put Elix around my neck, since for one I need both hands to carry the animal despite having adapted to be able to lift this animal easily, but it's putting me in an off balance posture if I were to hold it with one hand and it slows me down when I drag it. Secondly I don't want Elix to get snatched off while they are on my head, that's just asking to get caught. Lastly, I look cool having a purple and green slimy scarf matching my tie and black suit, plus Elix is very soft and makes my neck feel better, despite the fact she is trying to escape.

While I continue to walk into the grassy field, I can faintly hear loud voices up ahead, while multiple growls can be heard, with explosions and metal clashing.

I quietly run towards the noise and hear a couple of voices, human voices to be more specific. I am actually happy and excited to meet the people in this world, although I can't actually understand them. At the same time my ability activated again and my ears, head, and throat started to hurt a bit before disappearing and now I can understand the voices. At the same time my camouflage seemed to disappear and I now adapted to be more fit for battle, with having my small bony spikes on my hands being back.

It seems that they are in trouble judging by their voice tone and I hear pain coming from them. Of course since I looked suspicious with me holding a green cheetah, a slime scarf and wearing fancy clothing that isn't even fit for going outside, I quickly and quietly dropped the animal and poke my head into the grass and saw that the grass seems to have been cutted, and seeing tents and a campfire in the middle. I also see 6 people, 4 men and 2 women and 4 of those green cheetahs fighting them. 1 of them seems to be injured and another human is healing them using magic, from what I can tell they are kind of struggling but are defeating the cheetahs. Although the person with a crossbow seems to be struggling getting a hit on the cheetah as it's either dodging or deflecting the arrows, a mage that seems to be holding a dagger while also conjuring magic onto the cheetahs made a cheetah lose its balance causing him to stab it in the neck while also the person with a crossbow to shoot arrows into its head. I also see another mage that is female holding a wooden staff conjuring magic as well, but is casting multiple types at once at a very fast pace compared to the other mage holding a dagger, she managed to kill the cheetah that was pinning the knight. The last two cheetahs went into the grass, and they seem to be preparing a surprise attack. But the two mages acted quickly, one of them hitting the cheetah in the stomach with a fire and rock spell causing it to die, while the other one used ice magic and it only hit the legs but it was enough to make it lose balance.

The cheetah got up quickly and seems to be scared now and is now retreating, but then I noticed it's looking at me and it's sprinting towards me.

Without me thinking too much, I just instinctively got my right arm into an uppercut position and hit the animal in the jaw, causing it to get knocked up into the air by a couple of feet and landing a few inches

"Get upper-cutted, you vegetarian style cheeto!" I then laughed at my statement as it was very stupid.

I then realized that I just gave away my hiding spot and also mainly moved away from the grass while I was upper-cutting the cheetah.

Suddenly the female mage holding a staff shouts at me, "Identify yourself!" While the other three got into a defensive stance despite seeing that they were clearly tired, I assume they think I am gonna take this chance to attack them.

Ah crap… what have I gotten myself into.
