While we walk around in this mind bending LSD place, I've already seen cool things to the absolute weirdest crap ever. It seems that some stayed human, and didn't change their species and look, some stayed human without too much physical changes but now look more anime and or is a giant muscle headed behemoth that is 6-8 feet tall, I think one looked like doom slayer but was wearing a construction outfit and having a sledgehammer on their back for some reason. Of course there were other video game references that were really cool and gave some nostalgia.
On the other hand, of course, there's the users who went all out and changed their species entirely. Saw a bunch of elves, dwarves, lizard people forget the name, orcs and other fantasy creatures that I can't pull out the names from my head. It was exactly the same interpretation of fantasy species though… Some went with some… questionable and appealing type elves that made nearly every male user look at a glance, and some just looked like they were about to conquer a country or about to break the Geneva convention.
At the same time, I just see users that are literal animals, like a raccoon or a wolf, and of course there's bound to be users that changed themselves into a furry. They aren't even wearing clothes, unlike other animal type users, like the werewolf type users from the fantasy and sci-fi world, which they are wearing armor or clothing.
On the other hand, there's some that change themselves into a cyborg, probably the cyber dystopian genre. There were some off-brand superheroes and villains, kind of mediocre. There's the unique species that I don't even have a name of or have ever seen, but are definitely from the sci-fi space genre, if I were to describe them, it's like someone just described what aliens would look like from other planets or systems and have to consider the environment they had to live on for the body to be nearly scientifically accurate to occur.
Lastly, there were the weird users, not as in their species they picked or outfit they chose, but just… strange, I would say they are the… chaotic neutral? I saw one that was a levitating decahedron that was glowing very brightly like a disco ball, it was gaining a crowd. Another user is just a biblically accurate angel that is holding a trident, and it seems to be roleplaying with other AGENTS. Lastly, what caught my attention is that, some just straight up changed their look into a memes or a meme format, I don't know what I expected.
Somehow the only thing I have in common, apart from all of us being internet users, is that we have a badge somewhere on our body.
"This place is making me lose brain cells, and I already lost some while getting dragged here,"while I look around with every emotion circulating constantly to my face.
"The Administrator did state, they bring people that usually play games or have already accomplished what they wanted in life. I mean nearly adult in here
has basically grown up with the internet, so of course we are gonna see a lot of references that are good, bad, and the ugly," Meralon speaks up while his camera is also changing looks, now looking like a cattail plant with cat features but has a camera face.
"Well, I am enjoying this place. Wish I could be here physically," CF looking around with his camera, that has now changed into an actual desk fan, with his color design being white and blue. The camera is on top of the fan.
"I don't think you want to be here, my life is technically on the line here. I literally have to go to different games or what they call worlds and realities, and do some maintenance work, which is not gonna be fun." I then stop walking and look at both of them.
"Now that I think about it, where am I going? I don't even know the layout of this place."
"You are currently on the User Interaction Plaza, I think this is where people hang out and talk," I then sensed Merlon bringing up a red system panel, looking through the map.
"That explains this place being very crowded and a lot of people standing still or sitting down. But I want to go do some missions, I wanna see some fantasy stuff," I excitedly said and at the same time feeling another headache.
"The place where we travel to other worlds is on the other side of this place. Good thing there was a fast travel option in the system, otherwise it might take us 30 mins of running to get there." CF points out while also having the map open, being white and blue.
"Alright, take us there," then I sensed CF tapping on the panel and myself disappearing and immediately appearing at the place.
"Oh that was fast, and no loading screen?" I then walk towards the crowd of users going into the portals while at the same time having their panel out and scanning them into a machine, causing the portal to look different. The design and even the color changes.
"You don't experience it? We both get a loading screen. It just says terrain loading in for a few seconds," Merlon corrects me.
"Ha! That's sad. Anyways, let's do a simple mission. Can one of you accept a mission, while I walk towards the portal," I then slowly start walking towards it, while looking around to see more different types of outfits and species.
"Well which one? There's 5 main types: combat, support, conquest, elimination and informative. While at the same time divided into thousands of different world genres. Lastly it's divided into difficulties ranging from 1 to 100," CF explains while I felt a small tingle sensation in my head as I got that information.
"Hmm, since I wanna start fighting HEROES, I am gonna need to get stronger. From what I can tell, combat is probably just fighting and killing multiple things, while elimination is probably eliminating a specific target, probably like HEROES. So I'll pick combat, with the genres being focused on Action, Adventure, Magical Fantasy, I need to experience some magic. I'll just pick 3 main genres that I want to see, nothing too crazy. For the difficulty… I'd say let's do 50 right in the middle, that probably means medium mode," I then feel another tingle sensation while CF taps the panel.
"Alright there, I put in the stuff and the list went from hundreds of millions to only a couple of million. I'll just pick a random one and we can go from there," as CF picks out a mission and suddenly, for the first time I see a system panel, but it looks decayed and destroyed, at the same time it's glitching out like crazy.
"Hmmm, I can barely read this. Something about killing some mimic slimes that is causing a country to be in panic and anxious as they can't tell apart which object is real and which one is fake… 50 difficulty, it is 3/5 difficulty, time limit: 1 month, the rewards being XP = amount of mimic slimes killed + 50, and Mimicry ability. Eh, the rewards aren't a lot, but I wasn't here for the rewards," the panel then disappears and at the same time I was next in line to go to the portal. While doing so, a machine talks to me.
Support the author by searching for the original publication of this novel.
"[Please scan your badge on to the scanner to verify that you will now be leaving and aren't able to return until completing or failing the mission]" the machine then gives a sign to put the badge in.
I then put the badge into the machine. It takes it and scans it before giving it back and the portal then changes into a green and brown color with a texture of wood with a blue aura.
"Oh that's cool. Time to head into the first world we need to help," I then step inside to the portal and as soon as I go in, I start to fall.
I panicked for a bit while trying to get my body into a skydiving position before I quickly calmed down and now being able to easily correct my body while falling.
"Neat, this Adapting ability is pretty useful," while I do some flips.
"See, that ability is definitely going to be overpowered, your body is already adapting to the falling sensation and the speed you are going," Merlon speaks up while scanning my body.
"I can already see your body changing to be more aerodynamic and more suited for flying, well falling."
"It's gonna go away once I stop falling, well I would keep a small portion of the changes, but the majority of it will go away," I then felt my body suddenly change dramatically, especially in the legs.
"Huh why did my body suddenly change positions and legs suddenly get stronger and tougher—" then I crashed on the ground, making a big crater, knocking over a few trees.
"Ah fuck! My legs! Seems like we have already reached our destination and the portal seemed to correct my body position. Good thing my body can adapt very quickly otherwise my legs would have been destroyed, but goddamn that hurts still!" I then slowly stand up, while my legs shake very quickly while slowly healing and going back to the original look, but not all the way.
"Oh goddamn! You would have been dead if it weren't your ability," CF shouts out as I look up to see both of them falling, but stopping 7ft off the ground.
"Seems that you got here quicker than us, seems that there is a travel delay for us, since we saw a loading screen, again," Merlon looks around to see where we are, but gets interrupted by a panel. But then disappears after a couple of seconds.
"Seems that the map changed and we are currently at a place called the Illusion Forest,"
"Huh, wonder why it's called that," I then walked out of the crater and started to walk in a random direction, while at the same time I felt another painful sensation across my body almost making me fall to ground, but I regained my balance and didn't think nothing of it as it was probably making some changes to make me more suitable in this world.
"So where do I go? I don't exactly have access to the system and don't know the true objective. The only thing I know is that a country is being overrun by mimic slimes," asking CF and Merlon while I look around in the forest.
"According to the map you need to go northwest for about 300 miles to find something that's labeled "boss" which implies we are gonna need to beat a boss" CF speaks up while suddenly a map appears in front of my face.
"Woah! I can see the map… and I am going the wrong way, and the place I need to go to is called Gelacreep Marsh." I then turned around and started to walk the other way.
"Was messing around with the system and found out I can give you system panels to you. It just showed up as, [share panel to Oxaminite? Yes | No?] When I was just organizing my screen, I was pretty surprised," CF the. takes the map away
While I walked for a few minutes, seeing just the same scenery of trees. Merlon speaks up.
"Finally found some information about the mission, realized I just need to double click the Mission itself to get more information about it, here take a look, don't wanna read it," Merlon then passes his panel to me.
"Alright fine, I'll read it out loud to you both," I then clear my throat and start to read out loud.
"The mission will be taking place in a country named Veridellian, it is currently being overrun by mimic slimes. Mimic slimes are a type of hybrid slime that has the abilities of both a mimic and a slime. They use their slimy bodies that can absorb abilities, and objects to make themselves more powerful while using their mimic abilities to shapeshift and mimic the objects they have eaten. Examples being: eating a sword allows them to turn into a sword or have the attributes and strength of a sword, or even both. The reason for mimic slimes to be very aggressive and are hunting down the people who are living in this country is because of the King of the mimic slimes; Gelanor. To complete the mission, you have to locate and subdue, befriend, capture, or kill Gelanor, you are allowed to use any methods to stop the invasion of the mimic slimes. If Gelanor kills the King of Veridellian, or you gain attention to yourself to the point it escapes outside the country, your mission will be classified as a failure and you will be forcefully sent back to the base. " I then think to myself, trying to think up any ideas, but while thinking Merlon speaks up.
"Oh I have an idea, I know this isn't related to the mission but to your powers but, eh. Since you have that adapting ability thing, let's capture a mimic slime and eat it too see if your body will adapt to it,"
"I don't think that's how my ability works, plus I think you are thinking of another ability similar to mine. My ability counters and adapts to situations I am in, so if I were to eat a mimic slime my body would adapt to being able to resist the mimic slime attacks and also able to digest a mimic slime, but I don't get the ability and body of the mimic slime" I clarify to Merlon.
"But, it's a good idea! So I am gonna do it, the only problem is that I don't know what a mimic slime looks like," I then continued to walk into the forest before I felt a sharp crunch pain on my legs, but not as bad compared to other types of pain I felt.
"Watch out for that trap," CF calls out.
"Thanks for the heads up!" With a sarcastic tone.
"You're welcome"
I then look at the trap and see that it's some sort of bear trap, but a bit bigger and is camouflage on the ground. My legs of course already adapted and started to heal up and also got tougher to the point the trap doesn't pierce my skin anymore. At the same time my eyesight gets better allowing me to see the trap better.
I then tried to remove my leg from the trap, and suddenly the trap started to shapeshift into a gelatinous slime, that is green and brown.
"Oh, I think that's the Mimic slime the mission is stating, looks pretty cute and squishy, excluding the fact that it will try to kill you," Merlon points out and moves in to get a closer look, followed by CF.
"I agree with Merlon, it's pretty adorable, you should keep it and use it as a weapon or a pet, actually do both" while he says it in an evil tone.
"Woah! That's horrible… but it's also a good idea, but I am not gonna do that, I'll keep it as a pet," I then forcefully get my legs off the slime, and run backwards while facing the slime to get some space. At the same time my body adapted to the situation I am doing and now I become faster and stronger, but my hands have small bony spikes, but I ignore that.
Then the slime lunges at me and shapeshifts into the same trap I stepped on, aiming for my head. I narrowly dodged it and at the same time grabbed the bear trap. It then shifts back into a slime and tries to dissolve my hands, but is unable to, so it tries to escape but can't, and I realize that the small bony spikes on my hands were actually keeping it in place.
The slime continues to struggle and even attack me using its own body to shape itself to make a sharp object and using its mimic abilities to make it metal for a quick second and repeating it. Of course I didn't dodge them, and just let them hit me, to let my body adapt to the attacks, but it of course hurt a lot.
I let this continue for a few minutes while my friends talked to each other, and the slime started to get tired. The attacks and its struggling start to slow down and even its shape starts to sag a little bit, not being a perfect sphere of gelatin anymore.
In this couple of minutes my hands and face have definitely toughened up, not even able to feel the pain the slime is doing to me. I then thought of an idea to make this slime my pet.
"I wonder if I will be able to communicate with the slime? I mean the mission stated that the King mimic slime is able to command the slimes to attack the country, so there's some type of way I can also communicate with the slime, but considering the fact I haven't been able to adapt to communicate with the slime, it's probably something related to magic, which I don't have, I think?" Then the slime stopped stabbing and struggling on hand and just laid there.
"Oh neat, the slime gave up," I then stopped holding it for a bit, and it just soiled on my arm, like melted ice cream.
" What are you gonna do with the slime and what are you gonna name it?" CF asked while examining the slime
"Well, I should probably feed it something, since it's a living creature, but for right now I am gonna put it on top of my head and treat it as a hat rather than a pet, as for the name, I am not sure I'll think about the perfect name while walking towards out destination," I then put it gently put the slime on my head, making sure it doesn't fall out of my head, but my body was already ahead of me and I feel my hair slightly tightening around the slime.
"Hope no one notices my hair acting a little weird," I then turned around and kept walking in the same direction, while I came up with names for my new slimy friend with my friends.
